Another great video. What sets Caleb apart from the myriad tech channels out there is that he gets right to the point. There is no extra talking, there is no baiting, there is no politicizing. He shows you the gear in almost every shot. He mentions the practical applications. He shows you the gear in action. So many channels talk endlessly and show a five-second clip at the end of the gear in action. Caleb gets it. And that is why he is so successful.

I didn't hear you mention it at the end, but maybe I missed it - the F38 Falcam plates also generally seem to be compatible with Arca Swiss clamps. Both components, actually - the bottom piece has a dovetail groove on two sides that appear to be specifically designed to make it possible to throw it on an Arca Swiss mount; and the top piece (that one would put on the camera, for instance) seems to match up totally securely with all the arca swiss clamps I have.
I looked into it ages ago and found that there were a lot of people out there who were extremely frustrated that the Arca Swiss standard is a little goofy sometimes (seemingly using inches, for instance, which leads to a standard like "1.5 inch, or 38.1mm, width" specified for the base plate), but I think I might've only had one QR unit that didn't work with F38. i honestly couldn't tell you which one it was - it couldn't have been a clamp that i used a lot or i think i would've remembered it better.

I bought the F38 system twice and wanted to love them. It just bugged me that they didn’t slide in smooth. Like i saw in your video the F22 also suffers from a metal on metal feeling where sometimes you have to wiggle or force them to go on and off. We’re trying out the Smallrig Hawklock mini qr system right now. But They don’t have anywhere near the accessories that the Falcam system does.

    • @vidworxsfx
      @vidworxsfx ปีที่แล้ว +1

The reason I feel this can happen is because the machining tolerances on this system are very tight so it locks rock solid with no play if you look at parts of the vid you will see he pushes the button wich I too have done to get it started then it locks in. I have tested some of this gear so I know this to be the case but I would rather have something that fits with zero play then something slightly loose that may slide in easier. Overall I think this gear is very well made.

Very useful one considering that it's Arca-Swiss compatible. BTW, the F38 system has an optional base plate that is also compatible with Peak Design quick release system. Very useful when one has two systems in use like F38 on a ball head and Peak Design on a backpack. Falcam is a product line of Ulanzy, competitor of SmallRig.

Looks well thought through to break into the accessories / mounting market in video / photography market.
Nevertheless, why should I switch from Nato-rails to this system? Nato-rails and Arri-rosette are THE industry standard while this is a great marketing idea only.
It would require me to exchange all connection points and possible mounting combinations of my gear, ending up with another drawer full with expensive gear that's not compatible with industry standard.

That's great! The nato rail system is slim and efficient, not -_- at all! No need to follow each trend if what you have already fits the bill

Excellent work as usual! Super cool system and I could see the benefits in both time and safety vs the piles of cheap mounts and ball heads I have bought and used in the past.

How firm are those side handles? Does it rattle at all?? I can’t stand handles or any components to a camera rig setup that get loose over time. If you have a side handle on each side and slightly torque them in opposite directions do the move?

Very interesting! Is there any wiggle in the top handle? Like any very subtle feelings at all?

falcam quick releases are so expensive
You can buy a new camera in the price of these quick releases

Sick! I keep waiting for SmallRig to come up with something like this but looks like this is the winner! Can't wait to order and start using! Thanks Caleb!

Ulanzi came a long way. Been using the falcam quick release system for while but they recently went ham on the cage mounts. Very good products.

the falcam system is certainly attractive. now that it's been a couple years, curious how this system has stood the test of time? though i love the slimline release buttons on this versus your typical thumb-crank, will say i worry about the tactility of these over time. you find they're still performing perfectly? or seeing the button become a bit 'squishy' (for lack of a better term lol).
seeing Smallrig's new release of their HawkLock system (H21-H38), i've recently been on the fence about which system to go with. Sounds trivial, but really want this upgrade to be impactful to workflow. i've got too many speedbumps with my multi-camera system as it is, and looking forward to a truly cohesive system that works without (much) compromise. quoted these out, wild to see switching everything over will be in the $500-700 range lol. worth it if it works, but whew thats a lot for some quick disconnects hahaaa.
thanks Caleb, we all massively appreciate what you do 🤙🤙

I just bought all my rig pieces and now you put out this video. A couple of days late 💔
Well, I will check out this for the update of my rig in the future months. Crap 😅

THANK YOU for the heads up about this! One of the most frustrating things about having a Small Rig cage on my a6400 is getting it all set the way I want it, and then needing either to pack it up to travel, or to need a change of setup. Out comes the allen key and it is just so time consuming. This looks like a fantastic alternative.

AND that longer plate with the 5 positions? Amazing for something like a shotgun mic.
