Rover 45 Rust Repairs Part 1 Of 3 - Cutting Out The Rot.

- In this video Lee has my Rover 45 for a week while I'm on holiday and sets about tackling the few small holes in the sills.... he soon discovers they're a lot larger and uncovers some previous repairs to the floor of the car.
A huge thanks to Lee who offered to do this for me and has probably saved the car for a few years as this welding would have cost a fair few quid at a garage.

As always I’m reading and ❤️ your comments but letting Lee respond mostly, this series will be 3 parts for the next couple of Mondays at 6am. For those asking about cavity wax etc the car is due an mot in January which is a crap time for a test, the future of the car (in my hands certainly) will depend on how the mot goes - although I’ll probably put it in later this year as I hate winter mot’s... if it’s a cheap pass I’ll have to decide if I’m keeping or selling with a full ticket as that’s probably it’s best chance of me not losing too much on it, realistically although the car is tidy it already owes me more than it’s worth - even with a full ticket, people on the whole don’t want a poverty spec car. If I keep it I’ll get the sill covers off and invest more into it I suppose.... at the moment I don’t know what the plans are because the 2nd car is always supposed to be the rotating one as I can’t sell Agatha and I get bored of the same car. As always thanks to Lee for basically keeping this channel going while I concentrate on my camper one. 🙏

New to this channel, and it's great. It takes me back to my father and his Austin Princess II in the 1980's wheel arches, wings and front valance, I think after every winter he had more rust to cut out and repair.

Lee, I don't know what it is about your video contributions but I find them a really great watch. For a start the subject matter in this case welding, is right up my street, your personality just shines through in a very appealing way and of course the empathy you show for these largely unloved mobile metal boxes is something I very much approve of. What a totally spiffing start to this video series. You are an asset to 'AAA', and having bumped into you once in the flesh, well I sincerely hope I might get to do so again some time. Great work mate. I'm truly impressed by your collection of skills.

To be honest, I never did think I'd get involved in all this TH-cam malarkey....
But after meeting Rick just a couple of years ago... we just instantly clicked.

When I saw the frame, that had me worried, so yes, I agree that Judith needs lots of cavity wax to stave off more impending rust.
Is she worth preserving, saving? Oh, absolutely!

It might be a good idea to drill some holes in the sill covers so water can actually escape. X types are even worst for rusty sills

It’s a real talent being able to do Bodywork cos otherwise that welding could cost a fair few pennies for Rick.
I had to scrap my last car a Ford KA due to all the welding it needed plus the clutch went.
Looking forwards to the next “instalment”.

@@leelee1973la Should have brought the KA to you, certainly would have kept you occupied for a day or two, inner sills, lower rear inner arches, both sides.😁
Seems to rot in the same place as my 75 did at the rear section, mine had been repaired previously seemed to be a pretty poor repair, the guy that bought it from me stuck his finger right through the sill. Great Job Lee on Judith and well done on braving the heat to work on the Rover. Away to catch up on the next part shortly.
I think any car thats now over 20 years old is subject to having some welding done... Of course some cars stand the test of time better than others...
On the whole, Judith is a pretty solid... not as bad as I feared 👍

Nice work fella. I enjoy these type of videos. Looking forward to seeing how it ends up. I would be putting some rust converter in the sills on that flaky stuff and then using something like Bonda Primer over it and then cavity wax but it depends really if Ricky is going to keep it. These jobs always ended up like a can of worms.
I was firmly instructed not to go and spend money on it....
So I didn't 🤣🤣

Very nice work Lee, not nice in that heat. Rover did’nt wax inject from new, but then it’s a 22 year old car, so lived a lot longer than perhaps it should have done.

That figures... I remember replacing a pair of front wings on my Rover Sterling and there was just a small zig zag of anti corrosion wax squirted on... it was pitiful really.
@@leelee1973la Wow, you’d have thought a Sterling would have a good squirt of wax. I remember replacing the boot lid on a 1987 E reg mini & bare metal under the hinges. Skoda Estelle’s imported via Kings Lynn docks, even they were wax treated, there is a video on TH-cam, I remember new skoda’s dripping wax on drives in summer
