I agree that should be how its measured but the feet flat seems to used as a industry standard. When people say they have a 40 inch vertical they feel good about themselves lol so why not . The truth is they have about 35

I think the proper way to measure the standing reach is with tippy toes because when you jump off the tip of your toes it already adds some inches if it not measured with the tip of the toe
Practice the jump for a long time until u get the technique. Also do leg presses and weighted squats along with explosive leg exercises. Also make sure to stretch.
I know this is late but to fix inconsistency, take a video of a few of your jumps. Figure out which one was highest and compare that jump with the others. When you see the differences, practice fixing each one
I’m 5 10 17 years old and can dunk off one foot with about 20 percent consistency. Sometimes I throw it down easily and other times I can barley grab rim with two hands. Why does this happen?
All vertical leap measurements are off by at least 6+ inches... when a guy jumps.. his TOES are the last to leave the gound.. so vertical leap must be measure starting at peak stretch.. the point as far as you can reach with your fingers.. PLUS the addition height resulting from tip toeing..
Idk if this works but it seems right I measured my standing reach and then I knew I could touch the rim at 9.3 -9.4 ish and I subtracted 9.3 - my standing reach and got 22.3 inches. I’m 5’6.5 and I’m 12 btw :edit I just noticed this sounds like a math problem lmao
This has got to be the worst way to test a vertical , and i cannot understand Why people still use it or used it at all . With very basic materials you can actually test your vert . I made a 'vert tec' out of timber which is accurate on a level surface. This method is bad because you cannot jump freely right next to a wall , to get arm swing you need to be at least 6 " away from the wall , you then have to reach out to the wall and stick your label or leave chalk mark ....
