    As a owner of a 2018 M3 Competition and a BMW employee, I will definitely say the G80 is more of a “daily” and more comfortable. If you are looking for a more hardcore daily with raw power I would go for the DCT F80/F82/F83. The G80/G82 have plenty of power and it’s a great track car with better handling capabilities for sure. But again the F80 is gonna give you more of that “race car” feel with the DCT.

    I’ve had the e46,e92, f82 and G82 all are competition models and the best car for feel is the e92 2013 competition I have. The second best overall is the g82 competition. You have valid points on the transmission dct better the the zf8 speed, but technologically the g82 is so much more advanced and better build quality then the f82. I didn’t not feel like I had control of the vehicle and it almost killed me on the track couple times. I think bmw did increase the size as they have with each generation, and mostly due to safety and compliance with USA laws and other markets. Haven’t you noticed that each year the newer generation of every car is heavier, and bigger. I don’t know how they can’t go down in weight or keep it the same. The 2013 e92 comp m3 weighs 50-80lb less then the 2016 f82 m4. However they say that the best hp/Lb ratio is the f80/82 series. With all that said the new m4 csl is 3400lb. Carbon ceramics, the car in fiber and lighter glass as well as other components make the car come in with less weight. It has 550hp and we all know that’s around 530-550 whp, bc bmw lies and downplays their numbers. I opted for this eta awd g82 over a 911 turbo S bc fully speced it weighs 3780 and a turbo s weighs 3680lb. Their is a 150,000 difference in price. Fully loaded a m4 awd is 115,000 that’s without any m performance part upgrades. The 911 turbo S 992 series is 300,000. It does not feel like it is worth it. You can get a fully loaded m4, and a m4 csl, and have money for taxes and mods left over then getting the turbo s. The point I’m getting at is I have taken the 911 turbo S 991.2 to the limits and it is an amazing car, that feels secure, but the new one is heavier by 200lb just like the new g80/ g82 are as well. 6spd g82 weighs 3670lb and comp with Rwd is 3700, the x drive is 3780. Yet all the issues with the f series have been resolved. The car feels more rigid and planted and finally has 6 piston rotors when amg had been doing that for years. Maybe drive a g80 and see how it feels, before judging it. Because just like you, I thought it wasn’t as pretty, ugly grill, heavier, No dct, and too big. After driving it , my mind changed so much I bought one. Now thinking of getting another.

    Having owned both cars, I'd say I loved the look of the F80 a lot more. DCT was very special and gave you a nice jolt with every shift. F80 was a lot more erratic and you had to really watch how far you pushed the car because it could end up on top of a tree. G80 xDrive is a lot more civilized. Feels more comfortable, and you could launch with far less effort. The look of the car has really grown on me, and I get a lot of compliments on it. If I had to pick one, I'd pick the G80 mainly because of the xDrive.

    I own both a F82 and a G80 Comp. F82 gives you that raw power especially with the DCT. The G80s power is more linear and less raw with the ZF, but the G80 outperforms the F8X in everything. Tune for Tune, the G80 destroys the F8X. Love both cars.

    1. I love not being able to get traction.
    2. I love other slower cars being faster than me because I can’t get the power down.
    3. I love spending money on new tires because I keep shredding my old ones.
    4. I love a car that can NEVER fulfil its potential.
    5. Older, slower cars with dates interiors are much better.
    Sorry for the sarcasm but the G80 x drive is leaps and bounds ahead of the f80. The g80 is a TRUE m3 because it Leads the class and all others on performance like a true m3 should! Where the f80 was quick but due to it being an able to put the power down it was the leader in nothing, and therefore was not worthy of the m3 badge.
    My friends stage 1 golf r could keep up with me. Hardly the envy and bench mark for all other performance cars like the history of all other m3’s

    • @AttheApex
      @AttheApex  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The LCI competition model has a different power curve. My F80 puts power down and would smoke a Golf R. Also it’s not all about straight line performance on a circuit it’s a an animal. 7:50 Nurburgring ring time is not worthy? That was the fastest M3 at the time. The competition model does it a little faster and the CS was 7:39 i believe. I didn’t compare at the time the x drive it wasn’t out yet.

  • @js002003
    @js002003 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Regardless of the looks (which I actually think the G80 looks a lot better than the F80), having owned 2 F80s including an M3 CS, I can relate the G80 is night and day better in almost every aspect. I was disappointed in the F80 overall - steering dead spot, spongey breaks, its inability to put power down, mediocre exhaust note, the jerky DCT gear box in low speed everyday driving situations, etc. The G80 solves most of these problems, is faster and feels just as big/heavy as the f80 and in general the G80 is much more well put together/higher quality compared to the f80... So if you want a return to the old m3s in terms of size and feel, get an M2 comp or CS over the f80 and if you don't want to spend too much money get the slower but better e92 M3 over the f80.

    • @AttheApex
      @AttheApex  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I disagree with inability to put down power and spongey brakes. Steering dead spot care to expand on what you mean?

    • @js002003
      @js002003 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@AttheApex Sure, so just left/right of center (prob 1 inch) there is a lot of allowable steering input that affects very little movement of the actual car (Motortrend actually talks about this in their in class comparison vid). The comp and CS corrected for this a bit but the general lack of steering feel was still prevalent in my CS unfortunately... Im surprised you feel that way about the F80 being able to put the power down. Its one of the main criticisms from f80 owners and the first thing most of the G80 reviewers discuss saying that the G80 can actually put the power down unlike the F80. Don't get me wrong tho, it was fun to get the tail out in my F80s but most of the time you just want a car that hooks up well and the F80 just didn't do it. It was frustrating getting beat off the line by cars that cost half with half the hp... For the brake feel, I may be being a bit harsh on this aspect but it felt more like my Audi s5 brakes rather than my 991 911 brakes and I get that the 911 costs double but for a M performance car, I wanted it to feel closer to the 911 in terms of brake bite and feel.... I love M3s and have owned 4 in my lifetime but the f80 just wan't that good - there are a lot of inexcusable problems. I did love that it was the only car in its class that offered a manual (which was super fun) but I got rid of it for a CS less than a year in thinking the CS would correct all the other problems that it had. And even though the CS was an epic canyon carver it still failed to correct some of the f80 problems... as such, if you're not looking to get a G80/G82, I would definitely recommend an M2 comp over an f80/f82 M3/M4.

    • @AttheApex
      @AttheApex  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@js002003 steering was a concern of mine. I went with the Competition for the better steering input/feel. Putting power off the line is not really a concern of mine. I drive on country/mountain roads and tracks. I think you understating it’s launching ability.
