Owning an M3 or M4 would be awesome but the problem is having all that performance on ordinary roads would be annoying just like having a pretty girlfriend that won’t let you into her pants
I had the opportunity to drive an M4 last week and was completely blown away. Car is extremely fast and sounds good. You really feel connected to the car, as soon as you hit the gas, it's like a monster come to life. Don't think I can daily an M4 cause I know I'll get in some serious trouble
100% mate. One day I might share a horrible story about me being a passenger in a Ferrari with a guy that clearly had far too much confidence in himself and his abilities.
Just bought an M3. Great car. Sold a 981 Cayman GTS due practicality reasons. The Porsche has 340hp NA and was infinitely more fun. If anyone here doesn’t need or use the rear seats then definitely give one a go. The M3 is amazing, but the Porsche is a light year beyond in excitement and noise.
As a fellow F80 owner i completely agree with most of the pointers. Is it too fast for our aussie streets? Yes, as a daily i would be lucky to use 20% of it's powers. But as a car guy i couldn't care less. I enjoy the driving feeling everyday and couldn't think of any other car to replace it with.
I am looking at an F82 M4 and took a very low Km example for a test drive. During the test drive I realised that for 95% of the time I’d be using it to 5% of its ability. As a car guy who genuinely enjoys the act of driving it’s the other 5% that I live for behind the wheel and these cars are absolutely amazing. Can be driven casually with no issues and then when you want to have a bit of play time the performance and balance is mind blowing
@@Katra1981 Absolutely fine. I've had mine for many years now, kept it stock and no dramas as all. The key here is to not do "BMW condition based servicing" - in other words, don't take it to a dealership where they'll change oil once every 2 years. Don't get sold by their "service packs" where they don't really do much. Keep up with regular servicing at an independent euro mechanic and it shouldn't be a problem.
I can tell you from owning an F80 for two years that this car is just a blast to drive. Mines a 6 speed and pushing about 500whp. No problems with the car either and I drive it hard. There is the crankhub issue for the higher modded cars and also the factory top mount charge cooler is prone to leak so I changed mine to a mishimoto unit just as preventative maintenance, plus gives like 30hp. Other than that really, solid car. Just a perfect daily when you want it to be and a monster the next. The car does ride on the firmer side though vs regular 3/4 series. Also have a equal length midpipe so it sounds like a n55/ gtr mix now. Third gear is my favorite, get traction and it just pulls all the way to redline, hard.
@@rahnbm you definitely won’t regret it. If anything, I’d say look for the right deal in the current market cuz almost every car is going for way more than its worth rn
I doubt your intercooler gave you 30hp, butt dyno doesn’t count either. Mishimoto is over priced garbage too!! 500 bucks for a downpipe! No thanks! Zzp gets my money.
@@sirloin4372 yeah it only does like 10hp lol I misread the chart. 30 is with their whole cooling package including the TMIC and front mount intercooler and oil cooler I believe. It’s definitely not a garbage company. They actually do r&d and provide actual data to back up the claims, unlike most of the other companies. Yeah 500 for down pipe is a rip off though. I’d get cheapest one since it’s just a pipe like vrsf or the ARM resonated catless so it’s less raspy. Arm was on sale for like 447 on top gear solutions plus no tax and free shipping.
Had my M4 for 2 years now and definitely agree with this great review. One thing I’d add is road noise on chipped tarmac at high speed, a bit too loud. But honestly I can’t think of a car on the road today that I’d rather have over the M3/M4 from the F gen. Are they too fast? Quite possibly yes, but that doesn’t mean I want it any slower 😂
had a m4 before it's a great car. now hunting for another performance car that can also daily use. not many choices and I'm looking back at f80 m3 now 😂 personally like the m3 a bit more because that rear wheel arch.
@@bmwm333e92 those rear arches and the stance it gives with some minor spacers sold it for me!that and the absolute practicality of the 4-doors!had an e82 BMW 135i coupe before the M3 and a e92 325i before that, also another coupe before that, but honestly, I can’t see myself getting another 2-door car ever again, unless it’s a Porsche…but don’t think I’d ever do that either. Have a look at their Golf 7R video release a few days ago. Seems like the ultimate daily, as the M3 seems a bit too special to use every day, best as a weekend toy imo as it needs to be looked after a bit, as these types of cars will be highly collectible in a decade or 2 once EV takes over. The G7R might just seem a tad too docile for most commutes, whereas the M3 makes every drive special. But that’s nothing a catless downpipe and basic mod or 2 can’t fix. Happy hunting
I daily drive my F80 M3 Pure in Sydney and I can tell you it is too fast to truely enjoy on the Rd. 'I'm going to jail territory' is simply the most accurate way of putting it.
I had an e92 m3 before I switched to a Porsche and I miss that car so much. It was such a good package for the street fast but not too fast, and such a nice noise. Now I need to do track days to enjoy my 718 GTS, and that isn’t even that fast a car. I suggest more track days! I see lots of F80s!
this is the exact reason why the 86 exists, i didn’t understand why people liked that underpowered car until i got older, the excitement at the feeling of pushing the car to the limit even on the streets
I've had my m4 for two years now and the only things I've had to replace are brake disks and pads on the front (wear and tear items) and two lambda sensors. However i think the sensors broke during repair to my car after I crashed it. Very reliable car. Very well built. I barely even felt the crash too. It cost a LOOOOT to fix (insurance) even thought it was maybe only 40 mph into a pole but the car is very solid and safe. Just be careful as it's not a car for inexperienced chavs.
Craig, you must have paid a decent dollar for those wear and tear parts you call pads and disks, they are one of the most expensive wear and tear parts of that car..
I have an M4 and I personally think it looks just as good as the M3. I'll probably replace it with an M3 for the practicality further down the track though. Also, good to note that the crank hub can be fixed preventatively through a capture plate for
I loved mine. Most well built car I’ve owned out of many. Not a rattle or single issue. Only thing is how fast you have to push it on the street to have any fun is ridiculous. It’s actually just too good for the street. You can basically double your normal speed through round abouts and corners. This means it can be quite boring.
Had mine for 29k miles over 3 years and zero maintenance other than typical fluids and a set of spark plugs which I did in my garage. Buy one with Comp package that hasn’t been tuned and you’re nearly guaranteed a good experience.
I drove an M4 around Eastern Creek, (BMW track day) a few years ago. I still have the smile on my face. I owned a 428i coupe, just before the extended warranty ran out the turbo let go. The extended warranty ended up being cheap, otherwise that was almost a $6000 dent in the wallet.
Cheers from Texas 🍻 Nice video! I’ve had my F82 for about 4 years and I’ve loved every minute. Several cross country drives from Texas to California and it has been great (27 mpg). Not a single rattle and I find it very quiet when running Michelin 4s (wouldn’t use anything else). Still get a grin every time the garage door goes up! Power is great and instant when needed. Love it!
My 2020 Heritage Edition M4 is ridiculously fast and a torque beast. It just begs to go and I really have to watch myself. Had it a year and Love every day I hit that Red button in the morning for my commute.
Great review. I pick my F80 M3 up this week and I cannot wait. Bought it for a couple of reasons. firstly because I've wanted one for ages and secondly because I bought a 330ci Msport several years ago instead of the M3 and really suffered on the depreciation. The car is insanely fast but never too fast. Its so great too know what you've got available should the situation present itself.
Jim's opinions are very valuable for me. I am glad he participated in this video. Never forget to record Jim's opinion in your videos. He is a great addition. Well done.
Having just purchased this particular model, exact colour, spec etc. I have to say the handling is exceptional. Without giving it the full beans everywhere I go, driving sensibly to maximise fuel consumption and as a daily driver. It's spot on.
@redriven Thanks for the review, it influenced my purchase of a bmw premium selection M4 2014 with 50k klms. i traded a 428i luxury and best change ever, the connection (driver experience) with this car is amazing, ive had cla 45 AMG , 335i sports and weekend a evo, i get 6.9 l/100 on my coast runs from Brisbane and when i want to smash an on ramp its amazing, the speed is so lineal it is superior to any previous drives. i am now 10K Klms into ownership so pleased and excited with the experience and dont question if you can afford a Low klm car Buy it the F80/82 that is Great review guys
I still have the white ones on my 2015 model and they have not cracked, but you can see scratches on them when the light reflects off them. Not sure if the black ones are different in that regard, they still appear to be glossy plastic.
@@Matthew-nl9kd mines 2016 and pretty sure they’re cracked and have little lines on them. Perfect excuse to get the black ones that actually say m3/4 on them and stand out more
Great review. I was really pleased that the issue of the crank hub was raised. I have the s65 M4 and will not be changing out the OEM unit as the car is stock standard (not tuned or further boosted) nor is it tracked. 4% of stock cars fail…..it is a risk that I am willing to take and some of the replacement units have also failed. With regards to your question regarding too much power for our roads……no……with regards to your statement about our rubbish roads…..absolutely. I love my M4 and it makes me very happy each and every time I get behind the hoop.
That's what I picked up in June of 2020. 2017 black on black ZCP with 21k on the clock. I am absolutely in love with my car. This is my first BMW Car and first M. I've been of fan of the M3 since I got my first ride in my uncle's E30 M3 way back when they first came out(E36 is still my all time fave but my F80 is about to take over). It's the fastest car i've owned so far(stock for now, maybe bm3 stage 1 in the near future) and she just checks all the blocks for me. It's got performance, "some" comfort and looks sexy af(Love the wide rear). I can be a kid addicted to speed and handling/performance yet still be a grown n' classy adult(suit and tie) with it when I want to. That's something my 06 STi couldn't do for me. Was it fast? absolutely. Did people stare when they saw it? Yeah, it was an STi duh! lol! It was a BLAST to drive however, it was a car I could ONLY enjoy driving fast. I do regret never tracking or AutoXing it but I quickly forget about it when I drive my F80. Driving the M3 to me, is an experience. I have a smile on my face and enjoy driving it at 35, 55, 85 or 155(not that i've done this...) MPH.
Had a 1M for 10 years absolutely loved it..had to sell her 2 years ago in order to buy my house..now I’m ready for my next car and I think this is the one ☝🏽
I've just applied for a managers position at my work, if i get the job i'm buying one of these. Selling my e46 m3 was hard and want another m3 in my life.
Yeah I live in Melbourne where the average speed limit is 40km/h or 60km/h, and I test drove both the M3 and c63s of comparative ages, and they were too fast, the only time you can even give it a little bit of a squirt is the onramp towards the freeway. I ended buying a NA porsche for that reason...less speed but more fun.
I like the new M3 competition. I have an m5 competition but after driving the m3 I was considering getting one because of how impressed I was with the ride
They blow the charge pipes up eventually, the charge air cooler starts leaking eventually as-well both easy diy fixes. The crank hub can be taken care of for around 3.5k and should be done if your going to stage 2 or e85 especially if your driving dct. Don’t get the carbon brakes. The s55 is based of the n55 in dimensions like the mechanic said, but it’s not the same engine at all, it’s a completely different block altogether… I’m running the s55 in my m2c and it makes 580 rwhp on e85 with an exhaust and cold spark plugs and that’s it, that’s well over 650 at the engine.
Another great video. I am based in the UK but these informative videos and content are invaluable. Honest, made by real people and tons of value add information with the cheat sheets. Something for everyone! Keep them coming please. 👊🏽
Interesting question on if an M3 is too fast for roads considering how many Teslas are on the road these days, and that number is increasing rapidly. The dual motor 3 is an $80k car that is a sub 4 second 0-100km. Soon you’ll have a lot of people who have never done a track day, never been into cars, able to beat the pants off most other cars.
Trouble with a used “M” is it’s most likely been tracked, maybe tuned. Unless you’re aware of the buyer I’d be mighty careful. Yes I’m an M owner, never used.
I’m between this f80 m3 and a e92 m3. The purest in me wants the v8 m3 for sound but I think rod bearings, tba issues. I hear the f80 is just more well rounded as far as engine build quality . I’m going to daily drive either one for 1 year before getting my side Mercedes daily
Traded my 2016 m3 comp on a 2018 m3 cs. I've driven everything and these are the last of the real cars in my opinion. I can handle the looks of the g80 but it's simply dull to the f80. As for the comments re speed/ license issues. I don't get why you'd be watching this if performance cars aren't your shizzle.
I think 0-60 in around the 6 seconds mark is good usable performance on the MX-5 184 bhp and you feel the speed. Driving a 981 Boxster gets very illegal, very quickly at 0-60 in 5.5 seconds and you don't feel the like you're going that fast. Driving the M3 would probably be instant jail for me.
Mate, 100%!! Great example is when I took my partner for a spin in the NA MX5 we reviewed and had them laughing and freaking out at the speed, we were doing 50km/h in a 60 zone. Then a Porsche Panamera Turbo S I had for a week to review, doing a speed I really shouldn't publish or make public, and my partner wasn't aware at all and continued to answer emails on their phone. I adored this M3 but if I owned it, goodbye license and career! - AK
Same thing I’m thinking right now as well.. I am in the market for an M3 since the 330i seems like not enough power currently but then if I go into m3 territory it’s going to be jail time knowing my driving habits .. so contemplating on an S3 instead which might still be dangerous.. in such a pickle!
My friend has a M3 CS And I drive a BMW x435 msport Honestly, it's not the power that's too much for public roads. It's the BMWs chassis design and suspension tuning + the electronic driver aids. They are so incredibly good that it feels like you are never pushing the car to it's limits Making you always wanting more and that 'more' is something you can never have. I mean forget the laws, to drive as fast as you want (without potentially crashing) you still don't come close to what it can do. We have taken the X4 on twisty roads and it carries 120-140kmph through seriously tight bends #x-drive BMWs are designed by magicians
@@ghostridertom actually the reliability is amazing aside of from the crankhub. my friend has over 100k’s on the clock and the car has not one issue pushing 600+ with stock crankhub.
Awesome video and good to see informative content for Aussie second hand car market. I would love to see more videos like this one, featuring usual M3 competitors, RS5/C63 etc and also 911s as I'm in the market for one. Thanks
Tony, great news, all your requests are currently being organised. We'll be featuring a vast array of cars but the likes of 911's, C63, RS5/RS4 are all coming up. - AK
One more thing I’d add is the tendency for this driveline m3 and m2comp to snap oversteer even in a straight line. It happened to me in 4th gear 100km hour on wet road where it decided to spontaneously turn hard left. Thankfully I had MDM MODE traction engaged and it saved me. Was the last thing you expected in a straight line. Also happen to a friend of a friend at drag strip when he drove over the slightest bit of water. His car was written off and not insured. It’s combo of short wheelbase, twin turbo torque and light rear end.
ehhh.... i'm not saying it didn't happen... but you really should not be pushing the throttle with any steering angle in the wet... that's the only way i could see that happening. i've been driving a 450hp 500 lb ft mk5 supra and that has never happened in the wet... and the supra wants to oversteer more than M3/M2.... any torquey RWD car will oversteer in the wet if you're going around a turn and pushing the throttle, that's kind of what happens with RWD in low grip situations...
Mate I have a late f82 m4cp, 2 kids, space in the rear is great, much more than an rs5 or c63, and can fit 2 large adults easy and comfortably! M4 cp looks so much better than m3, easy daily but just need to be careful. Amazing performance and handling. In the UK can't push it all year round - only in summer, in wet and snow need to be super cautious! No brainer - m4
Ehhh I think the m3 looks better, especially since they get the super wide rear quarter panels. The booty looks thiccc from behind. But of course, I’m biased cuz I have one lol
@@MikeyG003 If I am honest, I was so close to going for an M3. Practicality (4 doors), plus the rear arches do look amazing - but went for m4 in the end, just looks sleeker, for me anyway. Some of my mates prefer the m3 and I think either is great. The deal breaker for me was seeing cabin space in m4 but I could easier has gone for an m3 and would have no regrets 👌
Great video! BTW the air conditioning problem can be fixed at your local BMW shop. They will have to put in a resistor and an update. Took care of my issue. Heard it was because of humidity. My 18 f80 Comp has been perfect. Just hit 25k miles
I was thinking we should test the sound of different pants fabrics sliding into the various seats. It might add 12 hours to the video length but I think totally worth it, thoughts?
Easy fixed. Sound deaden the doors, throw some better speakers in it at the same time, I’ve had a Triton, Rav4 and a Mitsy WA Express all suddenly feel premium once sound deadening was done on the doors
They are definitely too fast. I had a manual 135i back in the day and I got to drive the 125i a few years later and it was so nice to just be able to burn around town revving it out without doing crazy speeds and risking my life. I just wish BMW would do a manual slightly tuned 320i m sport with an LSD for like 65-70k, that would be the most well balanced and fun car
It’s strange, there were so many positive reviews for the M3 like this one, so a few years back I bought a 2016 M3 Comp, and sold it a year later very disappointed. It would have made for an amazing track car, but for my brief (an everyday drivers car) it just missed the mark. Firstly, the steering feel was terribly lifeless. Very sharp and you could place the car, but devoid of feel. And I’ve owned other electric setups (VF Commordore, MX-5) with electric steering and so much more feel. The second killer was the suspension. It’s adjustable, but even in comfort it was harsh, sending every crack in the pavement through the chassis and unsettling any hopes of a comfortable ride (again, I’ve had plenty of sports cars with a comfortable ride compared to this). Finally, the roars noise and car’s insulation was terrible in the Competition model. On the few times you could get on it without being caught be one of Australia’s speed cameras on every corner, you could see the brilliance of the car. As a performance machine it’s technically brilliant. But to live with as an everyday car, it was just missing the every day qualities for me.
I came out of a number of BMWs and bought an Alfa Guilia Quadrifoglio after reading many head to head reviews where the the Alfa won . I was sceptical but here I am waxing lyrical about how good they are. Even after 4 years of ownership; 100 reliable, no squeaks or rattles, etc. The only thing is the dealer network being very light on the ground in Australia. Otherwise, I understand why the Guilia QV won every road test against the M3. Go figure.
Nearly fell over when I priced (before buying) the f80 brake pads and rotors, and suggest anybody interested in one of these should. Also the hub issue, its a big enough issue that there are clips of it happening on youtube, without these 2 things, I'd love an M3/4! And its not too fast!, to answer the question- more POWWWWEEEERRRR
F80 LCI in competition spec over a 2 door coupe (F82) any day, love the rear wheel arches. For a 2 door coupe wit similar performance (more fun), I’d pick the F87🎉 Love the fact that Jim highlighted the carbon deposit problem (for all direct injection engines, unless it's dual, Direct Injection + Port Injection like some Toyota engines) behind the intake valve & tracts, just fit a good design + quality oil catch can if you CAN, definitely worth the $ in the long run.
I keep my 05 Cadillac STS4 1sg f55 in tour for mag ride, turn off trac control and stability control and put in sport for shifting abs that’s how I’ve driven the car since I’ve owned it. I love the car. Also have an ats I always leave it in sport and just put it in drive. I rarely use the magnesium paddle shifters but it was an option I HAD to have hahah
Hell yes you should. I got my 2018 F80zcp . It's getting a solid crankhub as we speak. It's got mperformance suspension, carless downpipes single midpipe aa madmax exhaust, carbonfiber everything and BM3 tune. Oh yeah I'm in America that's it in the thumbnail
I totally get what you mean about it being too fast for Australian roads. I currently own an Audi RS5 (4.2 L V8) and I feel it’s more enjoyable than my R35 GTR on the road. The GTR just made speed crazy fast, but the excitement didn’t match the numbers on the Speedo. You had to be doing something stupid to get some emotion from it. The RS5 is not as fast, but it feels more exciting to drive at the limit… even more so when not at the limit.
I would like a BMW M3/M4 some day, unfortunately family comes first before ridiculously fast cars I do not really need. Like you say parts are super expensive, a repair at a main dealer requires the wearing of an adult size nappy once you shit yourself after receiving the bill. As these are complex cars I would not let your average back street mechanic fiddle with it, you may regret that. Nice if you can afford one, if you cannot afford it new I would avoid an nolder M car that requires work.
If you have the chance to get one, get it. Life’s too short, might be gone tomorrow. The m3 is great for family since it has plenty of room. I wouldn’t say they’re ridiculously fast stock. Honestly they’re not even hard to work on. Cars are cars, not alien tech haha. I do everything on my cars myself. Albeit some cars just have a stupid design and not so friendly ways to do work/ maintenance. The m3/4 are pretty reliable considering it’s a bmw lol
Here in Germany you see them everywhere, so it is somewhat of a car that no one really looks at. It is great and here not to expensive to maintain, but i wouldn't buy one for myself. Just drove a few times the m2 from a friend of mine, it is fun for sure but the ride is harsh and even on the autobahn you don't need so much power, feels kinda wasteful specially the patrol here is very expensive 1,90€+ for a liter.
Got a 2018 m4 as my fist car at 16 years old , not one crash or anything, I sold it earlier this year and am looking for a m3 , loved that car so much , ik it sounds dumb but years of sim racing with a ffb wheel definitely helped lol
Leather shine can be reversed. The shine is basically just polished from wear. I don’t mind the shine of my drivers seats and everything else being dull. Shows the car gets used and loved.
‘Is it too fast for Australian roads?” I know I’m getting in late, I only recently discovered ‘ReDriven’ unfortunately but, regardless I will throw in my 10c worth. We live in Australia, the “Nanna state”. I wholeheartedly agree that there are a wide range of cars and an even wider range of drivers on our roads and so someone has to draw a line in the sand somewhere and cap speeds on our roads. I love the idea of the German Autobahn and although I’ve never been to Germany, I have been to France a couple of times. One trip to France we had hired a little manual Clio and I was driving, I was sitting on around 165km/h in the left lane (fast lane) passing some slower traffic and from behind me, probably 500m back, I copped some high beams flashing, I ducked back in to the centre lane ASAP only to be passed by a Porsche like I was doing 65km/h. He was probably doing 270+ km/h. Well above the speed limit. Look, we can’t do that in Australia, try that on the M1 between Sydney and Newcastle and you’ll be arrested or worse. Is the M3 too fast for Aussie roads? sure. Is a bottle of Scotch too much for one bloke to drink in a single sitting? Sure, but just because it’s there, doesn’t mean you have to drink it all. One could argue a Camry is too fast for Australian roads, heck a modern Camry will do 200km/h or more. My 1975 Renault 12 will do 150km/h. No, drive the BMW adhering to local speed limits and join a car club, do track days and enjoy it on the track.
Are they too fast for Australian roads? Yes definitely. There is nowhere to exploit this car’s potential. I have an E46 M3 manual and it is too fast a car to exploit fully. Here in the police state of NSW in the police state of Australia these cars are definitely gaol bait. However, every now and then you can find a known quiet piece of road to really exploit these cars potential- great review loved it
Great video & a great channel. Without doubt you will grow very quickly. One question, so should it not be bought in black? Or is it just difficult to film/capture the contours in that colour?
Thanks mate. No no the black looks incredible in real life but it's just so hard to film and photograph black cars on sunny days. It's near impossible to capture the contours and the car turns into a huge mirror. - AK
Tuned in because we are almost certainly going to buy back our M3 when the lease ends next year. We love the car and frankly it’s irreplaceable (6MT). Review was spot on in all respects. A few more points: (1) Rear seat practicality is compromised because there is no fold down armrest or cupholders. Bizarre. (2) With proper winter tires this car is surprisingly awesome in the winter. But the associated brake rotor corrosion has made them annoyingly loud.

As a car guy who genuinely enjoys the act of driving it’s the other 5% that I live for behind the wheel and these cars are absolutely amazing. Can be driven casually with no issues and then when you want to have a bit of play time the performance and balance is mind blowing
Reliability, maintenance?
Third gear is my favorite, get traction and it just pulls all the way to redline, hard.
one of the best cars by far. Ive had mine for 3 years now and love it like it still the first week, currently stage 1 tune but may go harder soon
You just influenced me to get one, trying to get rid of my q50
M2 comp, the short wheelbase is way more exciting.
@@matt-rw6li yes but also much less practical. I also absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE my f80 M3 @Kiwislop
had a m4 before it's a great car. now hunting for another performance car that can also daily use. not many choices and I'm looking back at f80 m3 now 😂 personally like the m3 a bit more because that rear wheel arch.
@@bmwm333e92 Yeah I wish they'd pumped the rear guards a bit more on the M4, they look amazing on the m3.
I daily drive my F80 M3 Pure in Sydney and I can tell you it is too fast to truely enjoy on the Rd. 'I'm going to jail territory' is simply the most accurate way of putting it.
But still, what a car John. We're jealous!
I had an e92 m3 before I switched to a Porsche and I miss that car so much. It was such a good package for the street fast but not too fast, and such a nice noise. Now I need to do track days to enjoy my 718 GTS, and that isn’t even that fast a car. I suggest more track days! I see lots of F80s!
how is the reliability? I´m thinking changing car because now I mostly work from home and dont need a diesel for the commute xD
I can relate to this with my 370z, NSW laws for car guys and gals are simply just tragic.
this is the exact reason why the 86 exists, i didn’t understand why people liked that underpowered car until i got older, the excitement at the feeling of pushing the car to the limit even on the streets
This is why I love this f80.
It is trying to kill me
Craig, you must have paid a decent dollar for those wear and tear parts you call pads and disks, they are one of the most expensive wear and tear parts of that car..
@@duffydon1741 it was lambda sensors. Needed two. Both around £200 each.
I did frint brakes a while back. It was about £700 odd.
A chase wouldn’t drive it into a post at 40 mph ! 60 mph maybe 🤔
I have an M4 and I personally think it looks just as good as the M3. I'll probably replace it with an M3 for the practicality further down the track though. Also, good to note that the crank hub can be fixed preventatively through a capture plate for
I did the capture plate myself, was very very annoying lol even on my lift. Rather just have a shop do it tbh

Ah cheers so much Julie!
Just saw a BMW M3 2012 with 238,000 miles for sale
@@Kinuthyadon’t buy that one
How’s it been treating you?
Jim's opinions are very valuable for me. I am glad he participated in this video. Never forget to record Jim's opinion in your videos. He is a great addition. Well done.
Having just purchased this particular model, exact colour, spec etc. I have to say the handling is exceptional. Without giving it the full beans everywhere I go, driving sensibly to maximise fuel consumption and as a daily driver.
It's spot on.
@redriven Thanks for the review, it influenced my purchase of a bmw premium selection M4 2014 with 50k klms. i traded a 428i luxury and best change ever, the connection (driver experience) with this car is amazing, ive had cla 45 AMG , 335i sports and weekend a evo, i get 6.9 l/100 on my coast runs from Brisbane and when i want to smash an on ramp its amazing, the speed is so lineal it is superior to any previous drives. i am now 10K Klms into ownership so pleased and excited with the experience and dont question if you can afford a Low klm car Buy it the F80/82 that is
Great review guys
That’s awesome to hear mate!
The cracked M logo on the seats were revised after 2017 and don’t crack, but 2014-2016 OEM cracks
Thanks so much Scott. - AK
Which one?
Didn’t know Australia had such lame speed limits lol. Def a no go with this car there then
As a UK viewer that owns an M4c. This video hits the nail square on the head. Have a new subscriber ❤
The s55 is based of the n55 in dimensions like the mechanic said, but it’s not the same engine at all, it’s a completely different block altogether… I’m running the s55 in my m2c and it makes 580 rwhp on e85 with an exhaust and cold spark plugs and that’s it, that’s well over 650 at the engine.
are the manual m3/m4's generally more reliable and cheaper to maintain than the autos?
I was planning on buying the new G model. Now I am considering a second hand F model having seen the new one.
Yeah these look better IMO. Plus you can get them for half price of the G8x. Down pipes and tune and you’re already over 500hp easy
There is real driving, and then there is driving a Tesla. Be boring AF after 5 minutes
@@hobo1704 yeah I agree, I’ll have a petrol engine for as long as I can
Had a stage 2 M2C in Sydney which I sold and got dual motor model 3. Its quicker in all road situations and no don’t really miss the noise
Trouble with a used “M” is it’s most likely been tracked, maybe tuned. Unless you’re aware of the buyer I’d be mighty careful. Yes I’m an M owner, never used.
So what if it's been tracked? 4 trackdays in my M4, no issues with it. They're built for it, just need the appropriate maintenance.
@@Matthew-nl9kd yup comes down to how owner Took care of it. I religiously take care of mine lol.
E92 all day. Had 2 over 8 years. Zero problems. F80 is a soulless car in comparison
What a beautiful car! I love the videos too, they're so helpful.
Ah cheers mate, really appreciate the kind words.
Great review. Really want one of these. Unsure sure that I'm "emotionally or financially" ready *if* something goes wrong, but risk vs reward, right?
My friend has a M3 CS
And I drive a BMW x435 msport
Honestly, it's not the power that's too much for public roads.
It's the BMWs chassis design and suspension tuning + the electronic driver aids.
They are so incredibly good that it feels like you are never pushing the car to it's limits
Making you always wanting more and that 'more' is something you can never have.
I mean forget the laws, to drive as fast as you want (without potentially crashing) you still don't come close to what it can do.
We have taken the X4 on twisty roads and it carries 120-140kmph through seriously tight bends #x-drive
BMWs are designed by magicians
I'm ready to take on all that comes with daily driving one of these. I just need to convince my wife, our 3 little kids and the bank.

I have a 2019 F82 Competition Package - just love it as my daily drive!

They are definitely too fast. I had a manual 135i back in the day and I got to drive the 125i a few years later and it was so nice to just be able to burn around town revving it out without doing crazy speeds and risking my life.

How do you drive this car with the steering wheel set so high up? Lower the steering wheel, lower your hands, relax and enjoy the drive.
Get the crank hub fix, flex fuel, exhaust, and you’re instantly OP on the road.
Nice review.
I picked one up.
I needed a 4-door for the family, and this is the closest to my 996 turbo that I sold.
I'm upset that you didn't sell me the 996 Turbo, but, thanks for watching and commenting, so for that I'll forgive you. - AK

Love the fact that Jim highlighted the carbon deposit problem (for all direct injection engines, unless it's dual, Direct Injection + Port Injection like some Toyota engines) behind the intake valve & tracts, just fit a good design + quality oil catch can if you CAN, definitely worth the $ in the long run.

So agree, it's hard to enjoy a car like this in Aus, bad road and speed limits, kill the fun.
I love this car. Such a legend !
This guy is hilarious 😂
Can you do videos on BMW M5, M550, M5 comp. From 2011 on?
Just read your review on the Lexus ISF and it's a very good car, but this M3 is streets ahead, if i had the money this is the car.
Wait wut..1.9...that's insane..I wouldnt touch a fast car with that cost of petrol
How can you reverse wear? Leather gets shiny from getting dirty. It can be cleaned to make it matte again.
‘Is it too fast for Australian roads?”
I know I’m getting in late, I only recently discovered ‘ReDriven’ unfortunately but, regardless I will throw in my 10c worth.
A more perfect comment has never been written. Bravo. - AK
Imo if it's a cs, m4 is the way to go. Base and comp m3 for sure
Are they too fast for Australian roads? Yes definitely. There is nowhere to exploit this car’s potential. I have an E46 M3 manual and it is too fast a car to exploit fully. Here in the police state of NSW in the police state of Australia these cars are definitely gaol bait. However, every now and then you can find a known quiet piece of road to really exploit these cars potential- great review loved it
Thanks so much John. - AK
- AK
I chose mineral gray over black for this very reason
@@ReDriven aha got it, thanks a lot & all the best to you.
I really really really reallyyy wish this came with a V8. It'd be a perfect combo of styling and sound
V8 sounds wayyy better shiiiiiiit, agreed
it'd be slower.
@@TickleMePinkGaming wym slower ?
@@AlphaEyad no twin turbo I guess it’s what he means . Therefore slower.
please do the same video with RS5 Sportback
Tuned in because we are almost certainly going to buy back our M3 when the lease ends next year. We love the car and frankly it’s irreplaceable (6MT). Review was spot on in all respects. A few more points: (1) Rear seat practicality is compromised because there is no fold down armrest or cupholders. Bizarre. (2) With proper winter tires this car is surprisingly awesome in the winter. But the associated brake rotor corrosion has made them annoyingly loud.
Yeahhh forgot about that, I was confused when I first checked out the back seat lol. Dumb “weight reduction”
Hold up is that Newcastle you’re driving this around at?
Great content
Cheers mate. - AK
The m3 f80 is dope
