  • In this Signal Colors: Primer - I'm taking a first look at the Chroma Console and running a full pattern through it through various modes. "Console" is the perfect name for this because it really feels like a complete FX powerhouse - I'm liking it a lot!

    Digging this way more than the Microcosm.

      I agree! I think the Microcosm is cool, but I didn't really gel with it initially, though I still think it’s executed really well for what it is. You picking up the Chroma Console?

      Definitely, in a month or so. I’m still waiting for the Chompi to arrive

    I was hyped by their marketing, preordered that first day for various reasons. Then saw a few demoes and was massively underwhelmed so tried to cancel my order. Then saw 1 (out of the 5 or 6 extended demoes) that actually used it as a performance effect and it was fantastic...soooo many hidden features missed by folks who’d not really dug below the basics. Phenomenal bit of kit for sound design, so glad I kept my order. No idea why I’m writing this, must be bored 😂

      Very cool!! I’m definitely just scratching the surface here myself, I definitely need more time with it before I can really show it off and learn all my favorite sweet spots first haha, but I like it so far! I appreciate the comment, thanks for checking out the vid and for hanging out in the comments :)

      Good insight. I’m still on the fence as I own an empress zoia 😅

    • @Farold_Haltermeyer
      @Farold_Haltermeyer 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@natethebesttt ooh, those splinters! In contrast this is much more instant and easy to use with a definite analog tonal lean, intentionally so. But the added depth of performance recording, looping and reordering mean it’s got more usage cases than a basic multieffect. The key to falling off the fence is really going to be your ear vs the Zoila...I really, really like the sonic signatures this thing has across a broad sweep of each dial, so the functionality is a bonus. If it was just a purchase for the feature-set I’d reconsider it. That’s my tuppence :)

      @@Farold_Haltermeyer I am still on the fence but II have been interested in it, specifically the motion recording, can all four effect lanes have a differently timed sequence? And can the tempo of length of the sequence increase or decrease? And how long can they be? Like I get the sense that it has a lot of potential to gradually change your effects over time and the sound design over the course of a tune, while also change them rhythmically in another effect lane, but I'm not quite sure. Thanks for any input!

      Wish more people also understood that if the device can store presets, you can usually control all the parameters with Midi CC messages and do some really cool stuff

    maybe a comparison between this one and the Ghost pedal from Endorphin would make sense?

    • @Duskmos

      @ahzootube 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I am selling away my Ghost pedal. It is really strong with its modulation capabilities but the most important thing = sound, is just not good enough. Reverb does not sound great and delay is almost useless for my taste. The midi clock sync on delay does not feel like its working properly. I will switch to Chroma console if I want to get another multi fx pedal.

    I'm considering an end of chain (and only one in the chain) pedal to pair with my SP16. This one is interesting. But I'm debating whether to get the analog heat +fx. Your insight would be appreciated

    • @Duskmos
      @Duskmos  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      +FX hands down if you're willing to spend the extra for it (it is more than twice as expensive though, so it's not the easiest decision haha). I just love the saturation the +FX brings and I happen to prefer the "flavor" of the effects on it and appreciate the display (and even in a pinch using it as an audio interface). The Chroma Console is super fun though and still a great choice, but if it were only going to be one, it would definitely be the +FX for me!

    • @luisbarrera5740
      @luisbarrera5740 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Duskmos yeah that saturation is pretty special. Is there any other similar product that you've tried that you would give it consideration?

    • @Duskmos
      @Duskmos  15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@luisbarrera5740 Honestly not really! I haven't used tooooo many multi-effects in general. Microcosm for sure, the Zoia as well. Then some solid stuff like the Neon Egg Planetarium, or Black Hole Symmetry, or even MOOD are cool too if you want delay, reverb, and something extra - not many out there that allow you to apply as many effects at once to be honest!

  • @kitespongan
    @kitespongan 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Another brilliant demo! Do you happen to have any of the Analog Heats? I’m really wondering if analog tubes/transformers are really even worth it since there are so many great digital saturation, distortion, and fuzz pedals out there now. 😅

    • @Duskmos
      @Duskmos  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sooooo funny you ask - I’ve had them all! There are some great digital “emulations” but the Analog Heat is always my permanent last-of-chain, and I love it so so much haha 😆. I’m going to be doing a video on the +FX, I’ve never done a video on the heat because they’ve always been in permanent use since I’ve first picked one up, but I figure I should! 🙌

    3:22 oof that Drive just destroys all of your deep bass when you kick it in. I think I only could use this in actual parallel. The Sweeten setting only kills the bass a little bit, but... meh.

    • @Duskmos
      @Duskmos  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeahhhh... I could've probably mixed it out a bit and brought in some more clean, but then cranked the drive level to compensate. Drive is a tough one on low-end in general, but yeah I hear you. I'm still liking all this thing has to offer though, even if you skip drive entirely haha. I'm also hitting it with a full mix, might behave a bit differently on less harmonically rich content. Might have to investigate that for my more in-depth video!

    • @goonfish
      @goonfish 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah that's a common sacrifice on MANY Overdrives (also depends on what kind of clipping it's got - i.e. Sym/Asym, what it uses for gainstaging, etc.), but also keep in mind the Tilt EQ can bring back more if used in combination with its Alt-functions for Level + Sensitivity so it doesn't cut for quite as long!

    Nice vid. Thanks. I’m looking to get one for the following application. Any advice is greatly appreciated: 90s house drum crunchy saturation coming out of my s2400 sampler in 12bit into my zed (digital) clean sounding mixer. I’m looking to check out the strymon deco 2 saturator. Ableton live saturation does a good job, but I want a hardware solution. Thanks

    • @Duskmos
      @Duskmos  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thank you! Deco 2 is a solid choice as well, another great one is the EHX Platform - the drive on that is really nice - plus you get the benefit of compression. Great bang-for-buck. I have videos on both, as well as some coverage of the OTO Machines BOUM, the Elysia Karacter (I have videos on those too) and the Elektron Analog Heat (my current go to in my setup - any generation, I have the +FX now - video coming soon - but I've had them all). Those are a few higher-end options, and each of these all have their own character. I have my personal favorites of course, but everyone likes something a little different. Happy to answer questions on any of these if you want =)

      I’m rocking an s2400 here too!!! love it, great choice 👌 been meaning to get a deco for ages, like duskmos mentioned the analog heat & oto boum are the main contenders, till you start getting into expensive rack units, if you’ve got the cash check out the thermionic culture vulture 👍.
      I’m thinking the deco for saturation and fmr rnc 1773 ( for a compression/ glue!) they also make a limiter to which may work better for house. For the price they are you get a lot of bang for your buck.
      The analog heat gets very crunchy so if using with Isla in 12bit best used on the subtle settings 👍
