    I like how unbiased you were in this assessment. You state that you’re personally not a fan of hatchbacks or FWD cars, yet you still give the GTI plenty of compliments. Great video

    My 2011 has been an up and down relationship lmao. Two water pumps, timing chain tensioner, headliner, driver side door card falling off. Still only 84K miles. Almost paid off so I’ll keep it till dies. Three door version, also had a 2011 5 door. Konig Hypergrams are def need for this car

    To agree with your point, if you don’t like tinkering with things and working on your car, this car will be a nightmare to own and cost a fortune. If you just want something you sit in and drive Honda or Toyota are your best bets, however, this is an enthusiast’s car, and the payoff for owning it is that it’s super fun to drive. Fast, handles great, and has a solid feel behind the wheel. Tuned they are very powerful but know that by pushing it you will likely make it less reliable. Gaskets will go, things will break but the main components hold up well, but don’t miss your service intervals or you will be sorry.

    At around 3:20 just a correction, the mk6 Golf R uses the motor from the mk5 GTI (FSI), belt driven, forged internals. The mk6 GTI uses the TSI motor, chain driven.

      My Gti is an EU 'golf 6 gti edition 35' and it comes with the Golf 6R engine making 235bhp stock and with a stage 1 tune around 320hp.

    I got a mk5 for 5k USD & it was apr tuned. Other than the water pump going out and the fuses blowing sometimes. Thing has been reliable for 20k miles.

    its a reach saying its civic level of reliability but its indeed one of the more reliable german platforms. when it does break be ready for expensive parts and specialty tools though.

    GTIs are good cars. The perfect balance between performance and comfort. While other sporty cars sacrifice the comfort for the performance, the GTI doesn't. Sure, it's not the fastest thing out there, but it's just fast enough. And if you want it fast, you can always tune and mod it.

    Yep these things cost a fortune. I have a cc which is basically the same platform as the mk6 gti only had the car for 6 months and have already paid over a thousand in repairs and just recently last month had a engine failure due to the timing chain going bad, that’ll probably be another 2-3k. These cars are very fun especially when tuned and Im in love with mine but definitely not in love with the cost. Already replaced water pump twice, replaced ignition coils and spark plugs, replaced camshaft sensor, now I’m on the way to most likely having to do a head job on the engine. Though I did buy it used with 120,000 miles and the previous owners seemed to be quite neglectful. If you have one of these especially the ea888 engine KEEP UP WITH MAINTENANCE PLEASE

    • @brettleonard8602

      Aftermarket aluminium waterpump is a must and it's cheaper. Just replaced my engine due to worn rings massive oil consumption. Water pump Aftermarket aluminium, Africa plate with catch can so pvc delete and catch can to stop l/ cut carbon builds in intake are a must in my opinion. Also have cold air induction, front mount intercooler with oem intercooler delete, dogbone mount, upgraded coils & plugs, downpipe high flow cat muffler delete(mid car) stock resonator (rear car) somehow everyone has this backwards, coilovers to go on then tune. In future lsd and k04 are the goal. Mk6 3 door dsg love it. But as you said expensive AF I've already spent double what I paid for the car

    Idk why people always think the Gti is that special, it's a Golf, it's not a different car it's a golf with a sport package.
    So ofc everyone thinks about the Golf when they think about VW since it made VW big.
    The Golf Gti was built in Germany/Europe like every other VW.
    The gti isn't a good car anymore compared to It's price, it's the same as all the jdm cars, they were once really good cars and since they were hyped VW produced more and more of them.
    The Golf R isn't viable as daily driver btw, uses way too much fuel, sure you could say the Honda Civic R is also a good daily driver but it's not

    • @knutron262
      @knutron262 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Gti isn't reliable and definitely on Civic level

    • @markroden
      @markroden  3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      The GTI is still a great car despite being a little overpriced, it’s a sports car and compared to your normal cars on the road, it’s way more fun. And it isn’t just a normal golf, it’s got a whole different engine in it

    • @knutron262
      @knutron262 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markroden Sure it's a nice sports car, it's just not being anywhere close to the reliability of a Civic, neither is it good as a Daily Driver.
      I never owned one, it's just what people told me who owned one and since i live in germany many people here got one and i didn't have a single one of them tell me it's good for anything besides as a fun car.
