I recently travelled with AA out of MIA, and I must say the crew were very friendly, kind, polite and helpful. They provided us excellent customer service.
I fly both UA and AA quite frequently out of ORD or JAX and other Florida airports, and to me, I find AA not getting a fair reputation. The interiors of AA are a lot more consistent, and generally fresher. With United, it’s literally a hit or miss. You may get a new MAX 9 or a very tired 737-700. Crews are generally professional and pleasant on either carrier.
I've never really had any problems with AA in the past. I mean sure, delays, but every airline deals with delays. Heck there was one time I was flying out of LAX and there was a huge line at the TSA that me and my family had to go through, and we would've missed our flight home if an AA employee didn't push us through to the fast-track security lane to ensure we didn't miss it, and we got on just in time. So yeah, I've never had a problem with AA, they've been pretty good to me when I've flown with them. Then again I'm not someone who flies all the time so maybe I'm just lucky.
@@idkjames I only flew thru CLT once. Felt like the whole CLT setup is a challenge though. More passengers per inch then any terminal I have been thru (LGA included :)) My guess is growing too big too fast in that market makes it a challenge in different aspects.
I haven't flown since 2020. But back then, United was still internally divided between legacy United and legacy Continental crews and planes. The livery and uniforms were the same so that's it. So you could get a very different experience due to that.
AA and UA made a mistake removing seat back entertainment systems. UA's app would work for me to watch a movie. Imagine paying for business class and can't watch a movie.
One of my biggest gripes with United as someone who very frequently flies domestic for work was something you touched upon: MASSIVE variability in aircraft fit and finish. Flying the same route over a few months repeatedly on the same day of the week at the same time, I’ve had ancient regional jets with no working wifi, old 737 NG cabins with no in-flight entertainment, 737’s with the DirecTV trim, and new 737-MAX 9’s with the latest cabin. And occasionally A320. It’s quite annoying because I don’t really have much of a choice when I fly, so the flights are either really pleasant or feel like I’m flying in 2005. Service is also hit or miss. I’ve flown two leg flights with United totaling over 5 hours in flight time and only offered one microscopic snack that tasted awful (some gelatinous “fruit” bar). Feel constantly crammed in and it’s impossible to gain premier status. Flew on 20 legs in the span of 4 months and not even close to reaching Silver. Meanwhile flew like twice on Delta and was treated like I’d been there for years. Great service and good value seat. If I had more of a choice I wouldn’t fly United anymore.
@@insainllama agreed, their new cabins are nice but they’ve definitely been more sluggish to bring the rest of the fleet up to par than other airlines. Would like to see them commit to doing that quickly before talking big game about buying SST’s and the like
Not alien at all! It's the Ivanpah solar facility. 3 heliostats generating around 400 Megawatts total. Well played Noel... Increasing engagement with easy comment call out! Great vids and glad to see AA delivered - Us "more pedestrian" travelers can only really have one loyalty program and I invested starting with US Air back in the '90s, hence I'm an AA loyalist. It has it's issues but agreed that cabin crew makes the experience even on mixed bag equipment.
Only airline I haven’t flown first with is United. I’ve flown AA a lot and it’s been a great service. However, I just took my first flight with Delta in first class and was amazed. Delicious meal and outstanding service. Deltas done a great job modernizing their older ex NW airbuses. My A319 was 22 years old and felt nicer than any AA oasis cabin
The second time I ever flew, it was with Delta. They had an extra seat in first class and they moved me up to it for free because I was active military (I had to travel in uniform, which was how they knew). That was a decade ago and I still remember it- it was great! The food, seats, crew, all of it
I was flying first class a couple of years ago on Delta. Gave my ticket to the agent at the gate to swap to a young lady that was active military in uniform. Capt gave a shout out to her for her service before takeoff and rewarded my generosity and her service with free drinks for all onboard. I was never so happy to fly economy.
The WiFi charge of $29 just seems so mid-2010’s. I’m glad to see airlines moving towards cheaper or even free wifi. Great overview of the three majors!
On the other hand; if everyone used Wi-Fi on a flight it would be congested because plane connection has limited bandwith for technical reasons. So there has to be some fee or system that often makes it so that not all passengers use it and only those who really need it, to ensure quality. And I know there are airlines that would love to offer free Wi-Fi but this limitation of bandwith is real. Maybe in the future as those connections keep getting better.
@@op-nd4bd This is why Delta is making it included, at least on 2KU equipped aircraft. It can handle the traffic from everyone onboard. Generally, the higher the cost, the older and slower the tech involved. It has to be expensive because if too many people bought it the service wouldn't work!
@@jblyon2 Yes, you're right. They are not doing it to profit with the internet, they're doing it as gatekeeping. Many airlines even say on the Wi-Fi purchase page how many people are using the connection and what is the status of the connection. It's nice to know before you make the purchase if the connection is actually usable. And there's a difference between browsing and streaming in terms of bandwith and that's why they are separate packages, streaming usually costing much more. My guess is basic browsing will slowly be rolled out to everyone as airlines upgrade their aircraft and that upgrading will then include new and faster technology.
I am an EXP with AA and on +95% of my flights, I am treated with a pre-departure beverage. Also, AA allows you to pre-book meals online/app so I'm not sure why you couldn't this time. One thing I agree they need to improve, however, is dumping the [high] fee for the internet.
Noel, I have been bingeing your videos like there’s no tomorrow! I love that you put yourself through all of this so the rest of us don’t have to! I literally feel homesick just watching from the comfort of my own home! This tells me I am not made of the tough enough stuff to do what you do! I’m not a seasoned traveller by any means, so thank god you are! Keep going Noel, you are amazing!
I have to say (having flown all three both domestic and internationally), I'm 100% team Delta. Not only has everything been consistent service and aircraft wise- I feel like the Flight Crew, ground staff and customer service have been way more helpful and willing to go above and beyond- I've encountered great staff from the other two airlines as well but Delta has just been the most consistent for me
As a guy who flys roughly 75k a year, I would advise Alaska for Domestic, Delta if you are in a pinch. I would do Virgin Atlantic, Quanta’s, or Singapore Airlines, or Emirates for overseas flights.
Have to agree about AA crew. Several years ago I swore never to travel with them again because of the surliness of the crew. However, came back from Boston to LHR with AA and the crew were lovely, so polite and smiley. Well done AA.
Same exact experience. I swear by UA out of Newark. But, need to use AA to Mazatlán and have been surprised the past few years. Especially out of PHX heading East.
Delta : Last two trips i flew with them and ive (for the most part) enjoyed it. I wasnt in 1st, so the seats didnt have leg room, but they weren't bad.. All of them have screens and the crews were great.
When flying 1st or business on AA, you can select your meal in advance between 14 days to 24 hours beforehand. Once the 24 hour window has passed, though, you'll have to take what's available when they get to your seat (but most commonly you can usually have your pick).
I traveled for work for about 6 years domestic and international. Delta was always my choice. You should compare the apps of the airlines also. I remember Delta being the only one who allow you to pay for checked bags via the app and they also have a baggage tracking feature that tells you which carrousel your bags would come out on.
You can use the first class lounge when flying through select airports on Alaska airlines. Alaska first class is also nicer than what you experienced on these 3 airlines.
I feel AA performs better than expectations too. I am a life time AAdvantage gold, but even so, find AA’s domestic flights to be just behind delta. Only drawback is the lack of in flight screens. I also flew AA in business from JFK to Delhi, and found them to be excellent. PJ’s, lie flat bed with mattress, excellent food, with no delays, on their 777-300 ER aircraft. I would put them on par with SQ and others, on this score. My experience with United, mirrored yours.
Thanks for this Noel and most importantly I wish you, Rach, and your children a happy and healthy New Year ! I flew Delta to and from Atlanta on the iconic 767-300 from TPA to ATL and back on the 767-400 both the get a ride on these great old Boeing aircraft before they are retired and also to compare Delta economy to premium economy. I was very impressed with the premium economy product versus the economy which was not bad either. For aircraft that were 32 and 29 years young respectively, I was surprised at the modern and spotless cabins. The captain of the 767-300 allowed me to visit the flight deck and sit jump seat for the entire pre-flight checks and he and his first officer were so engaging and accommodating. The flight deck was spotless as well a real testament to how Delta cares for their aircraft. I have always been a United guy but Delta won a new fan on that trip. Again happy New Year !!
Ive never flown domestic in the USA but i did fly AA transatlantic and loved the flight. Crew were friendly, service was brilliant and the plane interior clean and modern. I loved the experience with AA.
I've always been a Delta guy for American carriers. Looks like from this comparison video, Delta for the win! My very first flight was on Delta, a Tristar L1011 a fantastic plane ahead of its time so I've always been partial to Delta
@@floycewhite6991 You'll have that sitting near an engine on any plane. I got that on aircraft with engine pods in the back instead of the wings when i sat near the back. They are very loud. Its something i dont think can be helped on any plane. The DC-10 *might* be a tad quieter, but somehow i doubt it (and i wouldn't trust it given its safety record anyway)
So I usually fly Southwest, mainly due to my location, but I have started to fly AA recently and even upgraded to 1st and I’m honestly impressed with AA.
I'm an American Airlines boy. I like the streamlined boarding process, consistent interior cabins and choice of beverage on board (incl. Dr Pepper). Thanks for a great comparison video, Noel!
In my flight experiences I find Delta Airlines to be the best domestic airline to use. Planes are always clean and the flight staff are always friendly and professional.
I travel a lot for work, often taking 6 domestic flights per week. I prefer AA for being able to use my own device for IFE. 95% of my flights with AA are with friendly crews and great service. Delta I think has the best planes/seats and domestic lounges (I know lounges wasn’t included in this video) but I still prefer the experience with AA overall. United I find lacking in all areas except their frequent flyer program. Anyway, I love your videos!
I flew this year for the first time in several years, mostly with AA, and I also thought the cabin crew were very pleasant compared to how they were 10+ years ago! The gate agents were a bit surly and rude, but overall, it was a lovely experience.
What amazes me is how all of your flights departed and arrived on-time. Just two years ago on-time departures were hard to come by. Thanks for the comparison. I’m glad Delta won you over. They are my favorite airline as well.
I used to be a United guy, then I didn't fly much in a year and lost my status, and boy without status United is rough, that and they seemed to always be delayed and late, so I was going to switch to Delta, but they pulled out where I fly from so that left AA, so I started flying on them, and have to say, I really like it. I almost always have to connect no matter what, and connecting in DFW and Sky Harbor are by far better than having to route through Denver. Judging by your flights, Delta knocked it out of the park on all accounts. Love your videos. Keep up the awesome work. Also wish I had your flight prices lol, regional airport prices are so much higher.
I am a Delta girl. It was reinforced the time we were boarded, but the ac quit before we pushed back. We were delayed about an hour, but it was 80 outside and sweltering inside. The crew kept us informed and the poor flight attendants, dripping in sweat, raced up and down the aisle handing out water to everyone. Trip home, last flight of the day, was cancelled. We rebooked on app, but were not happy with those results. Red Jackets in terminal got us on the next flight out in free upgraded seats. Very happy. Delta also paid for the extra night we had to spend in the hotel because of the cancellation, though finding the request form on the website was very difficult and it took about 3 months to get our money. But we got it.
You are so right, Noel, about 1st class doesn't = lounge access on US domestic flights. Moreover, it' doesn't (seemingly) apply to some INTERNATIONAL destinations either. I flew Delta r/t SEA-PTY, 2 flights (738s/739s) each way in March and wasn't granted lounge access. I was told it's only for 1st/business class that travels over open seas. Panama is an isthsmus--water on 3 sides. I felt quite slighted. The flights were pleasant, food was better and the crews were very efficient. No complaints there. But not being granted lounge access with first class international ticket--come on!
Totally agree. First class in other parts of the world grant automatic access to lounge services. From what I gather, they basically want you to pay for lounge access either one time or through an annual fee, which is ridiculous. It beats the whole purpose.
Noel: I am a SoCal transplant that now lives in East Tennessee (in the Tri Cities area). TRI airport (KTRI) is about 20 minutes from me, and I prefer to fly out of there just for the convenience. Delta and American will fly out of there, and usually they fly to Atlanta or Charlotte, then hub from there. But if I'm flying to the west coast, that means a 1 hour trip, then a 4.5 hour trip to LAX or SNA. But American will fly TRI to DFW. The first leg is usually on an Embraer 145, so a bit slower and lower than a 737 or 320. The second leg is usually a 737. And while the total flight time is about 5.5 hours, the flight is conveniently split evenly between the two legs, so it's a nice rest. The problem with Charlotte is you usually arrive at Concourse E (at the end, of course), and you have to get to Concourse B. It's a bit of a walk, and if you have been delayed or are on a short layover, this can be stressful. It's a similar situation for ATL. But the trains at DFW makes it very easy to get around the whole facility, so just for ground convenience, we always fly AA.
I got the opportunity to fly first class a couple years ago on United heading to Louisiana for Hurricane Relief. Breakfast was amazing! ( Cereal, bacon, fruit, orange juice, fried eggs, and milk) was amazing. The people next to me had the waffles also and they were exactly the same as yours. Other than that it was a great flight!
American is usually pretty good and haven’t had any issues with them. Their staff are always nice and flexible, cabins are modern and nice, and as a big aviation enthusiast and involved in the aviation industry myself for years, this is the first time I’ve ever heard somebody compare American to Spirit. I definitely think it deserves way more recognition than that and is nowhere near the level of Frontier and Spirit. American is 100% up there with Delta and United as the top 3 airlines in the country (which nearly every airline rank list usually says as well). If anybody has had any bad experiences with American, I’m sorry to hear that, but in general, it’s not known in America as one of the “worst” airlines at all by a long shot, it’s very much referred to as the opposite of that.
As a former Delta employee back in the 1980s, I greatly enjoyed the video, Noel! As you've correctly pointed out, all three airlines have huge fleets of aircraft and it really can be "hit and miss" with aircraft types and specific models. Many thanks indeed.... 👋
Dear Noel, let me say some more words regarding your work. Your Vids are somehow ELEGANT. PLUS you seem to be an elegant gentleman. I dont say that on purpose. I just feel it. (...ha, ha got permission from my husband Justin...) I have watched you for a long time. And I do not agree on every content of your Vids. BUT. You are a classy guy! See, I am 66 years now. We cabin crew of T.W.A. ( what an airline from Honolulu to Bombay in my times) stood for the best of America. You wont forget it. You simply cant forget it. Dustin Hofmann, Tom Cruise, Siggi and Roy , Dr.Ruth believe me very very kind and modest people. Dustin even spoke in German to me.....(long live Israel) We gave them all. Our inflight service managers always told us: You are a representative of those wonderful United States of America. We are TRANS WORLD AIRLINES. SIMPLY THE BEST.. Noel all gone. Well not all, I do have that special guy around my house......keep up with your good work...and oh there is one more super guy from San Diego. His name is Scott. Fantastic. Hopefully it is ok for you to leave a comment here like this......
There is a lottery basically if you get a new interior or not. I've been flying Delta for years and back in the 2010's, it was really hit or miss with their domestic routes with the interior layout. However, their wide-body international flights have had that same look since 2014 (TV and all). That has finally made its way over to their narrow-body fleet thankfully. It should also be noted that Delta's strategy with aircraft is utilize them to the maximum lifespan, which is why they have such an old fleet. Ironically, if you want to fly on a newer narrow-body like an A320neo, you are better off getting a flight with low-cost carriers, since they prefer efficient aircraft over utilizing old ones.
Their TechOps maintenance division is the best in the U.S. which is how they can fly planes for 30 years. They do maintenance for other airlines and are authorized by the engine manufacturers to do full overhauls so everything is done in house. This is also why most of their 737s were bought used. I do give them credit for making old birds still feel modern.
@@khakiswag Their 757s are my favorite. I was on a 717 from ATL to CLE this summer that was showing a lot of wear so I wonder if they're going to refresh it or ride it out until it's retired.
@@jesdadotcom From what I've been told, the 717s will remain as-is until retirement, which is supposedly by the end of 2025. I've flown on several recently and they were in much better shape than older AA or United aircraft. That's not to say repairs won't be made where needed. Delta kept their MD88/90 cabins in decent shape, only pulling them from service when they came due for major maintenance (before COVID rapidly accelerated retirements). I would expect the MD95s to be kept up similarly.
Noel... I am happy that you had an experience that was wonderful when flying American. As an AvGeek Myself, I know there are times when flight crew teams can have good or bad days. I hope that some time later you can have a wonderful flight with American, Delta, or United... Or maybe any other Airline up to Phoenix, Arizona.
I flew AA from Philly to Rome a few weeks ago. It was a lovely flight and the crew was amazing! It was on a 787, which was great. The food in economy was good, and the in flight entertainment was really good as well. Never seen such an extensive range of movies
Why Airlines in the US promote these seats as First class is mind-boggling. These should be known as domestic Business class, actually more like Premium Economy.
Noel, what a day. Haven't been on American nor Delta in a while. But with high status on United from many years of travel I find them satisfactory. Often offered free lounge and always on international. Haven't been in such a ratty plane as you just were but looks like those old planes are soon on their way out. Standing by for your next flight.
Excellent job trying to keep it as equal as possible. This mirrors a lot of my experience. The only way to make it a bit more fair is the exact same meal service time. I’m glad you pointed out that often the refresh date of a specific plane is a big wildcard, while all other factors are generally more consistent flight to flight. One thing I really prefer about the IFE on AA compared to the touch screens is sometimes the person behind you really forgets that it’s also a headrest and while navigating for something to watch it feels like a woodpecker behind you 😂
We don't fly in the USA very often, but on a recent trip (7 flights over 10 days with BA & AA) we found the staff to be very unhappy, grumpy and un-friendly. We were flying cattle class though. Dallas >Tulsa or Dallas > Vegas. Didn't help that BA lost our baggage for 4 days! Those things in the desert are solar electricity generators. All the mirrors focus on the tower in the centre and boil water to steam and then power turbine to create electricity
I usually fly American, and haven't had any real problems the last few years. I think they've gotten a lot better since they swapped out their old 767s for Dreamliners and aging narrowbodies for A321s. If you don't care about seeing out the window, seats 24D-F on the A321ceos gives an absolutely absurd amount of leg room. You have to walk over to your bag! I flew 4 segments on United this year, and the average age of the aircraft was 28 years. Like your flight, they were really showing their age with tiny overhead bins, no power outlets, and uncomfortable seats. You do absolutely have to eat the Biscoff cookie when you're flying on AA. I say those cookies "taste like American Airlines."
I only fly Delta. Even flying coach, you have free wifi if you sign up for their free loyalty program. The flight crews are always pleasant. I live in Atlanta, so that makes things easier. But even when I lived in the Tampa Bay area, I still flew Delta.
I think you said it correctly all along: Each of the big 3 have inconsistent hard products and inconsistent food service. Crews in first class tend to be friendly (in my experience).
Noel your journey take’s me back to the days of the Delta air pass of years ago . We use to rock up at ATL from GTW and travel around the US on as many DL flights as we could fit in , spotting as we transited . It has to be Delta for me .😃👍
Domestic first class in US is hideous. You can get an ok price if you try hard but the only reason most take first/business here is for the seat room only. If you don’t need room it’s not worth it
I fly AA regularly and the crew varies widely. Sometimes they're super friendly and accommodating. Other times they scurry around like little church mice with hardly a word. But they are always helpful and professional. A lot depends on how tired they are and what time is the flight. I have not had any complaints.
Thankfully, I live in Seattle, so I can travel Alaska Airlines to wherever I need to go in North and Central America. When are you going to fly the JFK-HNL route with Hawaiian Airlines? That's the longest domestic flight in the United States.
For me, it's Delta hands down for domestic flights in the USA. I have found the fleet to be better in most cases and the flight crew seem to always be the most friendly and helpful among the the 3 carriers mentioned in your video. Thanks for the insight.
I've flown and been incredibly impressed with Delta ever since 2000. It wasn't until 2022 I finally flew a different airline just because Delta prices had went higher than their planes. International one suite jumped from $4k to almost $7k and I'm just not paying that. I now have had a chance to compare delta with so many others and I will say that I still prefer Delta, but I can't afford them anymore.
One flight I took on Delta was from LAX to ATL . The Captain actually said as he was backing away from the gate, "Good morning ladies and gentlemen. Let's see if we can get this bucket of bolts across the continent." I could hear every sound across America......70 in Hawaii 🌴🌺
Great review and I really liked the comparison chart at the end. You should really do those summary charts on more of your videos. I recently flew United first class from Chicago to Minneapolis. It was a short flight, so there were no meal, but we were kept well supplied with snacks and drinks. Friendly service, and the plane was newer so it was very clean and very comfortable. I had just been in regular economy on a long international flight, and this was heaven !
I feel like nearly every experience in the US, especially in transportation, is largely subpar compared to other countries. These companies have stripped out all luxuries for the consumers in an effort to maximize profit for shareholders. Dirty airlines, underpaid angry attendants, garbage food products, it's all a bad product and experience. I'm always so happy when in other countries and using their airlines where people act professional, the interiors are well cared for, the food is pretty darn good, and the overall product is meant to cater to the consumer.
Try European business class where they just block off a middle seat. Food there is better and you get lounge access but the hard product is much better in the states.
They’re stripping out every amenity because we all book on Travelocity and pick whichever flight is $.01 less. If people started being willing to pay for more, more would be offered.
Give me a reason to pay more and I will, @@hemaccabe4292. These flights were all basically the same on a cpm basis and the experience was largely the same as well.
The only exception to a degree is Amtrak, and even then, they need those new train sets and more investment in infrastructure so that travel times improve outside of the northeast corridor and to improve service quality. And it would be nice if Congress wasn't pushing them to cut costs.
If you enjoy aviation, might I suggest a little getaway to Seattle, WA and tour The Museum of Flight, located next to Boeing Field. Some relics of the museum include the first Boeing hanger, early civilian aircraft, space travel crafts/machines and battle aircraft old and new.
I commute on all three of these airlines regularly now and this isn't just me being diplomatic, but I always have good experiences on all of them! They're a little different, obviously, but the cabin crews are always great and that's the most important thing for me.
Haven’t flown American but my experience on United and experience with Delta I always check Delta first. It also helps that all of my travels are based out of Atlanta.
The weird looking things you saw in the desert is The Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System. That is a concentrated solar thermal plant in the Mojave Desert. The plant has a gross capacity of 392 megawatts (MW). It deploys 173,500 stands, each with two mirrors focusing solar energy on boilers located on three 459 feet (140 m) tall solar power towers. The facility formally opened on February 13, 2014. At that time, it was the world's largest solar thermal power station
I typically fly United and you're right about it being hit or miss with the plane interiors. I flew four domestic flights last week and 3 were 737 900's or 800's that had the tired small screens with credit card slots. One was a 737-MAX that has the nice touch screen just like your Delta flight had. I like playing mahjong on them :-)
amazing how big the siren/mermaid face is now on Starbucks' cups and pastry bags. Started to get bigger and bigger back in 2019 or so I think. AND, I totally agree about the tone of crews, maybe, from NYC or PHL vs MIA, LAX or other bases. Still laughing over the milord/Scottish skits. Excellent! 💗
of course, the siren is always pointing, with her little mits, at the crown on her head! 👑 (for cups, the big siren face is on the cardboard sleeve, typically)
I live in the DFW area and fly frequently to Mexico for work. AA at DFW airport has something like 15 direct flights to Mexico, even to smaller cities like Durango and Morelia. Even out of their hubs, United and Delta do not come close to that type of coverage, so AA is the only option for me. The AA Crew seems nicer because of people like you Noel! Go explore those Mexico connections via DFW and perhaps we'll run into each other. Happy new year.
I took AA from TPA to PVD First class. It was fine but nothing very 'firsty' about it. Nice seat, lovely crew but other than that. I left feeling underwhelmed. Doing a Delta to BTA from TPA in Jan. 2025, again FC. Stay tuned.
I've become a real fan of Delta for the most part. Overall their service, quality and amenities stand above the competition. I will Say that American has improved in recent months and would be my second choice. United is, just as you mentioned hit & miss. I have had some amazing United experiences and others that were abysmal. Great Video!
I'm kind of biased as a low-tier Delta elite, but what I love most about them is the consistency of their product. Unless you're flying one of their old 717s that basically fly regional these days, you will get the exact same experience every time, and you will always have IFE. Delta's biggest weakness isn't the inflight experience, it's the route network and the fact that if you're in the SE you're basically having to connect through Atlanta to go anywhere domestically unless you're going to another Delta hub. That same weakness applies overseas-go to East Asia or Europe you're fine, but anywhere else...you're going to have to get creative (i.e. flying to Pakistan where my family is from or SE Asia where you're stuck picking between a bad Chinese carrier or Korean)-and you're paying more than you would with United and Star Alliance. If I were Ed Bastian and I wanted to fix this, I'd be trying to find a way to get a joint venture with Turkish. With that said, Etihad has been partnering more with Skyteam carriers and they may end up being the connection partner to South Asia. I just flew American to Dallas...not impressed at all. You'd expect more than what they offered into one of their primary hubs.
Oh Noel, how different Elvis's song could've been had he listened to you and begun 'On a murky and miserable autumn morning'. Thank you for a new trip and New Year content 🙋👍😃
I’ve flown all three first class out of Charlotte, NC, mostly to LA. I’ve found American and Delta to have the friendliest crew although United’s were still pleasant. Delta definitely beats the other two for updated cabins although all three have rather old fleets. Food was better on Delta while American offered more variety on pre flight app checking. I’ve found seats on American more comfortable than deltas. I do hate Americas lack of built in seat back entertainment. I would rate Delta first followed by American and United. I’m also irked that 1st class domestic does not have lounge access.
I have flown first class with my dad who needed the leg room and if I were on my own as a treat. The first thing you notice is the freeloaders who are paid the cheapest ticket trying to talk their way into first class. There is always some first class request list when you check in at the gate. In this life you get what you pay for and I think the freeloading drives down the value of service on class because if most are upgrades why bother laying out the red carpet? Anyway, American is pretty good domestic fist class as is Air Alaska which I flew to Seattle from Philly. International first class is a whole other ballgame with first class being more posh and a real treat.
Hey Noel, great video as always. I completely agree with the rating you gave United. I recently flew their oldest 777 at 29 years old and it had very visible tiredness. Also, being a United member and flying domestically often, their 737-900s are very tired because they’re flown as many as 15 routes per day. They need retrofits (or extermination) soon so they’re comparable to American and Delta. Their Polaris is, however, hard to beat.
I feel like today, it's not "which US airline has the best first class", the better question nowadays is "which airline has at least 50% chance that I'll get there at all" and "when this flight inevitably gets delayed or cancelled, which airline will give me any amount of money back?".
US based airlines are mostly a pretty sad affair these days. It's a shame as they used to be better than most European airlines back in the 1990's. United in particular has some really rude and rotten cabin crew, where many of them have been in the same job for way too long, making them old grumpy and worthless.
Noel, all the Best for 2024! I really enjoy both of your Channels. I am with you about the hit and miss on UA. Having said that, I must admit I fly them a lot. I think things will be getting better with all the new plains coming in the new year. I just have not had good luck with AA, and I have not flow DL in a long time since they pulled out of my airport.
I don't fly a lot (I can't afford to), but when I do fly it's always Delta. They always have good service clean planes, and everything is satisfactory.
Quite a Grand Day Out as Wallace and Gromit might say. Not having flown to/from America for more than 20 years it was really interesting to see how the big 3 compare. Look forward to more great adventures in 2024!
12:45 Those "alien looking" things are called concentrated solar thermal power plants. Basically, they are a bunch of mirrors which are programmed to follow the sun and direct the sunlight to the top of those tall towers (the bright spot). Inside there is usually molten salt which is then used to boil water to spin turbines (a cross between a geothermal and solar power plant). They use molten salt because it can stay hot for many hours after the sun goes down, so they continue to operate into the night.
Delta is my airline hands down. My Mom visited us from Colorado for the birth of our son back in March 2000. As soon as my mom landed she received a call my Dad has suffered a heart attack. After a 20 minute visit to hold her grandson I called Delta to try to get her back home. Delta could not have been any more accommodating, you tell us when you can get your mom back to the Atlanta airport and she will have a seat on the very next flight. No charge. I’ve never flown another airline, even now when my daughter works for another airline and I can fly for free. Delta Loyalty goes a long way. This is just one of three life changing moments Delta responded with no questions asked.
If you ever get a chance to take certain flights I have two that on a nice, clear day are musts for scenery lovers. Southwest flight from Nashville to Las Vegas (non-stop) and then Southwest from Las Vegas to Eugene, OR. The first flight you fly very close to the Grand Canyon. On the flight to Eugene you skirt the length of the Sierra Nevada on the eastern side and cross over it almost directly over Crater Lake National Park about 10 minutes into your decent into Eugene. Both are gorgeous (must sit on the right side of the aircraft as you face the cockpit)...
To answer your question at the 12:45 mark those are solar power generators. They use mirrors to focus the sun on the central point to heat a liquid to produce steam to turn a generator.
One thing I love about being based on the east coast no 2 plus-hour flights. My general rule for US domestic is if your flight is over 2 and half hours then go for First Class. Otherwise the price isn't really worth it unless you find a good deal. Having flown on all the major carriers and a few budget airlines as well. Delta has been the most consistent in my experience.
The 'weird alien looking things in the desert' are the heliostats and solar power towers that are part of the Ivanpah Solar Power Facility.
I've visited that facility. It's even more impressive from ground level!
They're right along I-15 coming into Nevada. Don't look directly at them on the ground.
@@JonGreen_UK I did as well, really impressive.
Your so wise
I suspect he knew that but asked the question to generate engagement in the comment section.
I recently travelled with AA out of MIA, and I must say the crew were very friendly, kind, polite and helpful. They provided us excellent customer service.
I also recently flew AA and it was really pleasant.
I lived in CLT and found AAL inconsistent and the staff poor and sometimes rude. DAL or ASA are always my first choice.
Their 737 MAX 9 first class cabins are excellent experiences
United has been really pushing their new improved cabins, so hopefully that means there will be less variability in the near future.
@@insainllama& @noble6p simp for American much? 😂😂
@@insainllama agreed, their new cabins are nice but they’ve definitely been more sluggish to bring the rest of the fleet up to par than other airlines. Would like to see them commit to doing that quickly before talking big game about buying SST’s and the like
Literally worth paying a little more for delta. Especially if flying with kids
Yeah well Delta just announced they will push through pilots that have mental illness and disability so good luck with those flights
One of my 2023 highlights is getting to watch Noel's videos every Sunday afternoon. 🌅
Happy New Year, everyone.
The second time I ever flew, it was with Delta. They had an extra seat in first class and they moved me up to it for free because I was active military (I had to travel in uniform, which was how they knew). That was a decade ago and I still remember it- it was great! The food, seats, crew, all of it
Long time ago. Lucky to get a candy bar these days.
@@KC73 They still do this.
My only time in 1st class was the same. Flying in uniform, they put me up front.
Yeah I got a bag of M&Ms when I complained about no food on a. 4 hr flight….first class.
It isn’t actually “ free” you ticket price has gone up to cover the costs
It is nuts considering here In UK you can get free WiFi on busses and trains
After dealing with Greyhound, you deserve these first class trips!
*business class
Noel, I have been bingeing your videos like there’s no tomorrow! I love that you put yourself through all of this so the rest of us don’t have to!
I literally feel homesick just watching from the comfort of my own home! This tells me I am not made of the tough enough stuff to do what you do! I’m not a seasoned traveller by any means, so thank god you are!
Keep going Noel, you are amazing!
Wow, thank you!
I have to say (having flown all three both domestic and internationally), I'm 100% team Delta. Not only has everything been consistent service and aircraft wise- I feel like the Flight Crew, ground staff and customer service have been way more helpful and willing to go above and beyond- I've encountered great staff from the other two airlines as well but Delta has just been the most consistent for me
Clean planes and wonderful people!
this video confirmed why I am convinced i need to be team Delta moving forward.
Delta is the only domestic airline worth flying these days, and even they've been on a slow decline.
Delta is awesome! I wish Houston was a Delta hub instead of a United hub.
Flew united from Hawaii to lax that was first and last time I would ever fly with them
As a guy who flys roughly 75k a year, I would advise Alaska for Domestic, Delta if you are in a pinch.
A Noel Phillips video without a loo review?!!! Inconceivable!
Delta : Last two trips i flew with them and ive (for the most part) enjoyed it. I wasnt in 1st, so the seats didnt have leg room, but they weren't bad.. All of them have screens and the crews were great.
HAPPY NEW YEAR and all the best for you and your family 😃
Thank you so much 😀
When flying 1st or business on AA, you can select your meal in advance between 14 days to 24 hours beforehand.
United has the superior app, doing everything you mentioned of Delta’s and much more. 😊
@@tannerasadorian3850Oh really? Provide some details 😂😊
@@tannerasadorian3850Agreed, United has consistently had the top app for years.
Delta is starting to hire literal r tards as air crew. Good luck
Delta being my first choice airline, I am so glad it turned out making itself look good on this trip.
Fly Delta.
I’m a delta fan through and through
Me too
Ive never flown domestic in the USA but i did fly AA transatlantic and loved the flight. Crew were friendly, service was brilliant and the plane interior clean and modern. I loved the experience with AA.
That waffle. Delta for the win! Have a happy new year to you and your family Noel! 🎉
I've always been a Delta guy for American carriers. Looks like from this comparison video, Delta for the win! My very first flight was on Delta, a Tristar L1011 a fantastic plane ahead of its time so I've always been partial to Delta
Apparently you didn't sit in the rear near the toilets and engine, in the middle of the 5 center seats. It's an awful experience
@@floycewhite6991 apparently I was 5 years old and didn't care
@@TheInsaneChef Funny how I was expecting that everybody who flew on an older model must be older.
Never got to fly an L1011, but from the outside (and performance) it looked like a really stellar aircraft (superior to the DC-10 for sure).
100% agree. I’ll fly with a connection on Delta before a direct on AA if necessary. Just a consistly better experience from gate to gate.
I would be so confused seeing a guy with a camera getting close ups on his waffle 😂
I’m pretty easy. As long as the plane takes off and lands safely, that’s my favorite airline.
And CLT still doesn't have priority security. I love the airport except that part so do my best to only use it as a layover
Those AA seats are the same as I had on their A319 from DCA-LGA so it's good to see some consistency across aircraft types
Yup - generally, Delta is almost always your best bet for quality when compared to other US carriers.
As a former Delta employee back in the 1980s, I greatly enjoyed the video, Noel! As you've correctly pointed out, all three airlines have huge fleets of aircraft and it really can be "hit and miss" with aircraft types and specific models. Many thanks indeed.... 👋
Glad you enjoyed it!
Dear Noel, let me say some more words regarding your work. Your Vids are somehow ELEGANT. PLUS you seem to be an elegant gentleman. I dont say that on purpose. I just feel it. (...ha, ha got permission from my husband Justin...)
I have watched you for a long time.
Dustin even spoke in German to me.....(long live Israel)
We gave them all.
Always have been and will forever be a Delta guy, flying out of DTW is always nice with them
Why Airlines in the US promote these seats as First class is mind-boggling. These should be known as domestic Business class, actually more like Premium Economy.
They are technically sold as business.
One of the benefits of living near DTW is that it's a Delta Hub. I'm pretty much spoiled with their entertainment service and awesome flight crews!
Agreed...I only fly United and never saw 1st class in such a condition.
One thing I really prefer about the IFE on AA compared to the touch screens is sometimes the person behind you really forgets that it’s also a headrest and while navigating for something to watch it feels like a woodpecker behind you 😂
As a Delta Diamond Medallion member, It looks like I picked the right airline to fly for business. Good review Noel.
Absolutely. I travel for work extensively and love Delta and Hilton.
Yeah people moan about Ryanair in Europe but honestly they’re amateur in misery compared to American carriers.
Boston to HNL is longer
Hawaiian Air is now owned by Alaska Air. (9/24)
As a pilot for an unnamed airline, I enjoyed this perspective tremendously.
Given the choice I would choose Delta then American. Happy New Year! Would love to see more ground travel reviews.
One flight I took on Delta was from LAX to ATL . The Captain actually said as he was backing away from the gate, "Good morning ladies and gentlemen. Let's see if we can get this bucket of bolts across the continent." I could hear every sound across America......70 in Hawaii 🌴🌺
Those "alien looking things in the desert" are Solar power plants. The mirrors point to the top of a central tower and boil water to run a turbine.
They cater to demand of passenger for lowest fare possible.
The best airline is the one that goes nonstop to your destination, on the date & time that you want.
And for a reasonable price (for most).
So none of them
@@aaroncollins6411 Sounds like you need to live in a better city haha
Not true. UA has a large scale of flights to Mexico out of IAH.
@@SKS8080 14 DFW-AA vs 11 IAH-UA
I wouldn’t really call that first class. It seems be more like premium economy product
Oh Noel, how different Elvis's song could've been had he listened to you and begun 'On a murky and miserable autumn morning'. Thank you for a new trip and New Year content 🙋👍😃
I prefer your version. 👍
Only downside for Delta, not all aircraft type has the FE screens installed, the b717 has no FE and paid WiFi which need wifi to process payment.
United in particular has some really rude and rotten cabin crew, where many of them have been in the same job for way too long, making them old grumpy and worthless.
so true and thnx
Look forward to more great adventures in 2024!
i prefer Alaska airlines
Noel is the kind of guy I'd spend a 1 year long flight next to without getting bored
To answer your question at the 12:45 mark those are solar power generators. They use mirrors to focus the sun on the central point to heat a liquid to produce steam to turn a generator.
I love how the USA airlines calls it First class globally this would only be Business class and a much better experience than fake US first class
