CSM genuinely have such a great book when you think about it, not just from all the detachments but the fact that like 90%+ of our unit profiles are at the very least serviceable & no matter what *FUN*. Aside from Chaos Spawn & the Heldrake (RIP) it's hard to point out any units that are just downright terrible. That said I'd be very curious if you guys think I missed any hidden gems or if I overrated a particular profile - lemme know what you guys think! Also: Gotta give a shout out to my newest members, Sellers & Timothy! Appreciate the support, it's awesome to know ya'll are getting a kick out of all these
A squad of Havocs with nothing but Reaper Chaincannons is nuts. That's 32 attacks at STR 5, hitting on 3+. If you're using Renegade Raiders, you get +1 AP to enemies on Objectives, and can shoot even after Advancing. Oh yeah, and that's BEFORE you give them Sustained or Lethal from Dark Pacts.
Most people know it but another clever use is for those rare cases when you have 6" tall Ruins in your DZ. Means you can get an *additional* +1AP from the Plunging Fire. Toss in a Termie Sorc with Red Corsairs & you're up to AP3 on a 120pt blender!
Coming back to the hobby and I have to say, you rule. You seem so genuinely excited talking about this stuff and it makes me excited to come back. Thank you for going so in depth on this !! Subscribed
Shoot, yeah I do get pretty hyped on CSM but the idea I can help get someone hyped up too - pretty awesome to hear! 😜 Appreciate the comment & tyvm for the kind words. That's definitely 'up there' as one of the better comments I've gotten
On the topic of Raptors * Black Legion - 10 man brick of Raptors with 4 Flamers + Jump Pack Lord + Let the Galaxy Burn (0CP) = extreme anti-Infantry * Night Lords - 10 man brick of Raptors with 4 Meltas + Jump Pack Lord with Warp-Fueled Thrusters + Screaming Descent (1CP) + Pitiless Hunters (0CP) = tank hunting squad that is always in Melta range. Raptors are one of the most underrated units in the codex.
I have checked with my local game stores (plural). There are some that does not accept HH Vindis due to lack of dozer. Hence, may wanna check with one's LGS before making the purchase.
@@ernest1337wong also if you look at it, it got a Dozer and the size difference is miniscule. if they are not allowed all conversions should be banned.
recently started into the hobby with the CSM Codex and found this channel. Really great content. Speaking about synergies that might not be that obvious to a new player 👍
Thank you Mage! A huge focus of the channel is new players so I always try to explain how to actually use the units / combos - it's great to hear that's getting through with the vids :)
Considering with Deceptors a few things for characters myself. Thematically I'd love to take Huron for the redeployment shenanigans (just make him an AL Huron) vs taking a Terminator Sorcerer for my termies. With the Terminator Sorcerer, I'd have my Chaos Lord with Soul Link to snatch that reroll charges and advances as he leads Chosen if I feel like I need it to get to close combat.
Isn't Soul Link fantastic? I think it's the best enhancement GWs put out so far, not from a power level (tho it's strong for only 5pt) but just the fun / variety / utility factor. It can be army defining imo! Great combos you're cooking up, Termie Sorc is my favorite thing ever hah
Reminder to all new players that if your going for more of a lost and the damned style army please don't be afraid to recycle those traitor ogryns and commissars to proxy as other characters. Traitor ogryns can easily stand in for a torment in Accursed Cultists, or a master of executions etc.
I really like Plague Marines in Renegade Raiders... full melee gets ap-3 on objectives and with full hit and wounds re-roll when getting out of a transport is super good on them.
Oh man, I had them & Noise Marines listed at first but I knew the video was going to be long so I cut them :( But yeah you're spot on, especially with the rr's they're fantastic little melee bombs! I shoulda tossed them in honorable mentions, love my little Plague Boys so good call
Great video! Thanks for posting this! Noobs to 40k and csm like myself benefit greatly from these videos! Keep up the great work! Don't forget your chaos icons, people! They are free!!!
What you didn't mention about the Chaos Rhino (and Cult Legion Rhinos), which is a thing that often goes over people's heads, is that for some reason it comes with TWO combi-bolters (or a combi-bolter and a combi weapon), unlike every other Rhino in the game. It is a bit of a challenge to convert if you want everything WYSIWYG (the kit only includes one and has only two hatch hardpoints that are also shared by the Havoc launcher), but that setup makes it pretty much the best Rhino in the game. 8+d6+Blast shots when in rapid fire range, with a Dark Pact, is a legitimate threat to light infantry and means you can ease up on anti-infantry weapons elsewhere in the list.
Oh damn I always forget that, good looking out!! Yeah man at 75pt with everything else it brings to the table I'd agree it's one of the best transports Apparently I need to start printing up some combi bolters (tbh I doubt that's one of the things people would get anal about tho, my combi just shoots more than most :P)
Great point! Yeah AP1 is pretty much their only real downside but we have so many ways to improve it that it's not even that big of deal. That profile is just so damn good at 125pt, a lot of people stick with Pactbound with em but I think they can work pretty much anywhere. Renegades they'd definitely pop with tho
Can you do an after action battle report? Like explain how each matchup played out and when the tide turned in your favor but not show every dice roll?
It's funny I was just talking to my buddy the other day about doing some Battle Reports with me, I'm trying to expand into some other topics so we'll see what we can do! Appreciate the suggestion
I know a lot of people are upset about MOPS nerf but hear ne out. Brick of Chosen with MOP as lead and MOE as Lieutenant. +1 to advance and charge with a decent melee option, on top of MOE damage increase on damaged units. With it being a melee focused unit i think it could do some nasty damage.
In the decimator attachment. Grab a brick of terminators with a lord for the -1cp. Use the reactive strat to move when sowmone falls back. Just melee lock a unit. Its so fun
Possessed are my favorite, especially being a WB player. Making once per day should had upgraded to ap -2 d2. Math shows possessed and chosen do comparable damage with possessed being tougher. Being in MoP vs CL attached and Chosen win out.
Great video, lots of useful information. Don't know how you managed to keep up your energy and pace for such a long video! Couple of questions though: Legionaries, what load out do you give them? I haven't played since the Index when legionaries weren't worth a look compared to chosen and possessed. Predator Destructor, which sponsons do you give it?
I think part of my secret is the bucket of caffeine I chug directly beforehand lol 😜 Probably need to cut back on that again though... Anywho! For Legos you want to go full-on melee + x1 ranged option of your choice (almost always either a Lascannon and/or Reaper Chaincannon). I usually go LC but now that hordes are making a small resurgence the chaingun is valid too. Aside from those it's always x2 Heavy Melee Weapon & the rest chainswords. That way their VotLW ability works to it's max. FYI a modeling tip: pretty much anything that's not a chainsword counts as a Heavy Melee Weapon - don't sweat looking for 2 handed axes or whatever At 80pts they kinda put the others to shame tho they definitely still have their place For the Predator, I pretty much go with LC sponsons 99.9% of the time as it makes him a legit anti-everything. I have seen some arguments for Heavy Bolters & using Lethals as then you get both Lethal + Sustained on them but really I'd only really consider that with Pactbound Zealots for the 5+Crits & even then personally I stick with LCs (have had to many lucky rolls vs Knights & the sort) Hope that helps & by all means shoot me any other questions ya might come up with!
Since this is a place where people are looking to run comp lists with the new detachments, I was wondering if everyone was running more infantry focused deceptors list like this Chaos Lord (90pts): Warlord, Daemon hammer, Plasma pistol Chaos Lord (90pts): Daemon hammer, Plasma pistol 5x Dark Commune (65pts) Master of Executions (90pts): Axe of dismemberment, Bolt pistol, Cursed Fang Master of Executions (85pts): Axe of dismemberment, Bolt pistol, Soul Link Master of Executions (80pts): Axe of dismemberment, Bolt pistol Sorcerer in Terminator Armour (105pts): Chaos Familiar, Force weapon, Infernal Gaze, Shroud of Obfuscation, Combi-weapon 20x Cultist Mob (100pts) 20x Cultist Mob (100pts) 10x Cultist Mob (50pts) 5x Legionaries (80pts) 5x Legionaries (80pts) 5x Legionaries (80pts) 5x Legionaries (80pts) 5x Legionaries (80pts) 5x Legionaries (80pts) 5x Havocs (120pts) 5x Havocs (120pts) 10x Warp Talons (220pts) Helbrute (130pts): Close combat weapon, Helbrute fist with heavy flamer, Heavy flamer, Helbrute fist, Helbrute plasma cannon Chaos Rhino (75pts): Armoured tracks, Combi-bolter, Havoc launcher, Combi-bolter
I don't think it'd hurt to toss Huron in there, the redeploy is such a big deal with Deceptors I think it'd only help (tho ofc we all have our own playstyles / pov!). Otherwise looks fine! x3 Helbrutes is a fun choice, normally their 6" move is a big issue but if you're going nearly pure infantry then it wouldn't be so big of drawback I don't think
Really enjoying your info with the depth you go into everything. Ever think of maybe trying a xenos or another army? My personal favorite right now easily. Auspex is great but that dude is so fricking dry...
Damn, that's an awesome comment to get to read so tyvm for the feedback! I *have* been wanting to branch out & cover more armies, I play a lot on TTS so I know a pretty good variety already. Obv I try to mainly stick with what I know most but we'll see where the channel takes me (it's grown way faster than I ever imagined hah). Somewhat related but I really want to get back onto / finish my 'how to beat...' series for countering every army. Been working on Orks & Nids atm!
Man, the Chosen used to turn me off because of their functionally mandatory mixed weapon loadout, but my opinion totally flipped when I thought of them a sort of super elite killteam. Lot of kitbash potential. When I make one of my own you can bet each mini is getting their own lore.
Yeah Chosen were just *bad* before 10th. Weird loadouts & only 1W on an "elite" profile meant they didn't really feel elite at all. You're spot on with the kitbash potential, then & Chaos Lords are some of my favorite conversions. Possessed too but it can be hard to find tentacles & the sort hah
@fatarchon looked into it, I can only find the imperial predator destructor and annihilator but no chaos one? Am I missing something? Kinda new to the whole mini scene.
@GypsyDanger2000 here ya go! Looks like it's out of stock but you might find it on Ebay or Amazon etc! Tbh it's really easy to "chaos-ify" an Imperial one, either with spare bits from your other Chaos kits or if ya grab some chains/skull bits. Here's the link though: www.warhammer.com/en-US/shop/Chaos-Space-Marines-Predator
Thanks for the video. How would you build a brick of plague marines? Is there even a reason to use them over legionnaires and/or should I just get rubrics if I want cult marines?
Plague Marines are essentially the melee version of Rubrics, so they're just as valid depending on the legion / strategy you use My favorite way is to kit them out with as much melee as possible, toss them in a Rhino & then run them Renegade Raiders. From there they can flip objectives really well - +1AP from Renegade Raiders then spend 1CP to rr all hits/wounds after hopping out the Rhino. They become incredibly deadly that way Another route is Veterans of the Long War with a bunch of flamers. That'd let you use the Let the Galaxy Burn strat to max their flamer shots But yeah a brick of PMs is a great choice! Especially if you're a man if taste & prefer Nurgle 😜
@@fatarchon I'm going through an odd dilemma where I like Tzeentch more, but I don't like Tsons. The idea of bunch of heavy armor fellas rushing out and hacking everything down with specialized melee weapons is also real cool. What about both...
I'm kinda in a similar boat, I have a Tsons army but I haven't played them for ages yet I love my Tzeentch Daemons & Rubrics hah I think you could totally get away with running both PMs & the Rubrics though. They're both powerful & best all, look cool af
Hell yeah, glad you dug it! Slowly but surely the channel's growing so hopefully you'll see some more as time goes on 😜 Either way appreciate your comment & I hope you got some useful info out of the video
So the issue with the Termie Lord (imho!) is mainly the bodyguard he has to work with + competition from the Terminator Sorcerer who I think is better in most regards. Terminators are inefficient compared to other options atm so they drag down the Leaders they have access to unfortunately. He's also kinda selfish with his buffs, the -1CP can be fantastic but halved dmg only works on himself (tho some enhancements will give him more value). Thaaaat said, Termies are not *bad* they're just slightly behind compared to their competition so it's not unworkable or anything. Termie Lord is also deceptively decent as a singlet all on his own. 2+/4++ with halved damage is spicy & will require actual firepower to take out, granted I think in most cases you still want to give him a bodyguard. Really it comes down to though: do you have Strategems you need to use on your Termies? & are those strats better than +1AP & rr charges? There's some fun enhancements out there too, Shroud of Obfuscation comes to mind for Lone Op etc
We're spoiled with some of the best battleline AND one of the best transports - yeah I'd say that's a sound strategy you're using hah I think that's a good call with the chaincannons too, we're usually stuff with AT so yeah maybe that's a better route to take
Thanks Goofy! So, sadly it doesn't work ☹️ The Overwatch strategem says "can only hit on unmodified 6 regardless of BS skill or any modifiers" - I wish it worked, they'd be one of the top units if that was the case hah
I was talking about them taking advantage of his Death Hex ability 😜 The entire army gains the extra AP not just any attached units (I normally run him solo tbh!)
with warp talons you would need to make that 9 inch charge which is not reliable, so I guess you do rapid ingress but still you are sitting there balls out in the wind. so do you deploy them behind a wall or something? what makes this useful?
Well there's the Rapid Ingress like you mentioned, but otherwise yeah you can spread your opponent out or drop down & do actions, or hope for the 9" charge etc. Some of the legions give you a boost to your charge too! But yeah there's more to it than just charging stuff Most importantly tho - it keeps them alive. If you're able to reliably wipe squads on the charge your Talons become invulnerable essentially
QUESTION Professor, I mean you're young, but my second semester of calculus was taught by a 19 year old Chinese girl that did not talk, but whatever ... I read Goonhammer Competitive Innovations, wake up to Auspex Tactics and now you, but I am not up to speed on the Mathhammer, though I intuitively agree, that combi-bolters are superior to combi-weapons with devastating wound - Machine guns in combat, not deer rifles. HOW?
Hit something! I do not care if a head wound is a peach of a shot after 3 days, Sucking chest wounds in 5 of the adversary is preferable, at 12", less of the enemy likely to shoot back, does that track?
Well! It really depends on the target selection, if it's some meaty ~T7 2+ sv monstrosity then yeah the combi-weapon probably eeks ahead ever so slightly but even then it's still only x2 shots hitting on 4's versus the x4 shots hitting on 3's. Mainly though it's because I mostly use my Rhino's shooting for taking out chaff or screens & the like. Preferably like T3 5+ or worse saves 😜 I kinda hate the profile GW gave combi-weapons this edition, like even with Termies I'd be tempted to stick with the bolters for that fire output. I'm horrible at math (maybe that's why I like them?! Lmao) but I wouldn't be surprised if bolters beat them out in almost every situation considering DOUBLE the # of shots so double the chances of landing a wound (well... sorta) Still combi-weapons have their uses esp on characters or one off models. Getting an unsaveable wound has a good feel to it sometimes ya know?
They can be! For me it's a playstyle thing, they're just a taaaad more expensive than I like but I've definitely seen lists run them really well before. They're great bodyguards for a Termie Sorcerer for example & are incredibly chunky in Fellhammer Siege Host etc. They also have a boatload of 2D output which is really valuable compared to Chosen or the sort Thing is I can bring x2 squads of Raptors or almost a brick of Warp Talons for around the same cost so when you start looking for points to spare they're often one of the first units you look at cutting
I love disco lord but at current point maulerfiend or venomcrawler is just better than him. Hopefully gw ll buff his points or give him anti vehicle to his melee weapons just like warpsmith or i dont see a point in a unit that only can use his abilities on vehicles when he cant deal enough dmg to them.
Nah you're totally right, I usually include the Disco Lord in my vids for the memes :P Well, that & the fact I genuinely love him. 11/10 model But yeah even though I built him up he has waaaaay too high of cost to be competitive atm so you're spot on... Sadly
I'm hoping him & the Heldrake get some love. Hell maybe even Spawn will be usable - GW specifically said they'd be looking at OC 0 profiles to reduce points costs on now that Pariah Nexus is here so pray to the dark gods with me hah
For friendly matches just do "counts as" & say they're whatever. Even some RTTs are cool with that! Besides, what's meta or not changes all the time so don't sweat it

Plague Marines are essentially the melee version of Rubrics, so they're just as valid depending on the legion / strategy you use
My favorite way is to kit them out with as much melee as possible, toss them in a Rhino & then run them Renegade Raiders. From there they can flip objectives really well - +1AP from Renegade Raiders then spend 1CP to rr all hits/wounds after hopping out the Rhino. They become incredibly deadly that way
Another route is Veterans of the Long War with a bunch of flamers. That'd let you use the Let the Galaxy Burn strat to max their flamer shots
But yeah a brick of PMs is a great choice!
I'm kinda in a similar boat, I have a Tsons army but I haven't played them for ages yet I love my Tzeentch Daemons & Rubrics hah
I think you could totally get away with running both PMs & the Rubrics though. They're both powerful & best all, look cool af
Just finnished my 1k and 2k Chaos army lists ❤🔥
Hell yes! You'd better throw your Chaos-ified Squat Biker into one of those lists :P Which Legion did you decide on?
What does it mean to be sticky? Sticky tools to objectives
Another home run Archon.
Never seen your channel here before, enjoyed the video though.
Hell yeah, glad you dug it! Slowly but surely the channel's growing so hopefully you'll see some more as time goes on 😜 Either way appreciate your comment & I hope you got some useful info out of the video
Question what about chaos lord in terminator armor?
With so much Anti Tank in the army, I take 5 man Legos in Rhinos with Chaincannons x2 love em
We're spoiled with some of the best battleline AND one of the best transports - yeah I'd say that's a sound strategy you're using hah
I think that's a good call with the chaincannons too, we're usually stuff with AT so yeah maybe that's a better route to take
Can you have 2 chaincannons in a squad of 5?
@@wayoflifefitness5622No, but you can run two legionnaire squads, each with a chaincannon, in a single rhino.
@wayoflifefitness5622 Sorry, 2 Rhinos, 2 5man squads. Sorry that was unclear.
f in the chat for terminators.
Man, they aren't even that bad they're just so damn expensive compared to everything else! But then if they made them cheap you'd see them 24/7
@fatarchon Hey I have a rules question! does Havocs stabilization Talons work with Overwatch? P.S love your work!
Thanks Goofy! So, sadly it doesn't work ☹️ The Overwatch strategem says "can only hit on unmodified 6 regardless of BS skill or any modifiers" - I wish it worked, they'd be one of the top units if that was the case hah
@@fatarchon thank you! Rules can be a little confusing at times
You mention terminator sorcerer leading chosen and/or possessed but they can only lead a terminator squad
But yeah there's more to it than just charging stuff
Most importantly tho - it keeps them alive. If you're able to reliably wipe squads on the charge your Talons become invulnerable essentially
Brand new to the game and I've been trying my hardest...but I'm struggling lol. ANy discords I could join where people are friendly and will help?
as a tsons player I want to run maxed out rubrics in raiders
Pactbound zealots nurgle forgefiend buffed by a warpsmith gets sustain hits on a 4+?
Lmao) but I wouldn't be surprised if bolters beat them out in almost every situation considering DOUBLE the # of shots so double the chances of landing a wound (well... sorta)
Still combi-weapons have their uses esp on characters or one off models. Getting an unsaveable wound has a good feel to it sometimes ya know?
Thank You.
can i have the link to the model(TTS)?
Links should be in the description of my TTS tutorial :)

"Is there a single thing not to love about fabius bile?"
His personality 🤣
Unfortunately, with possessed you cannot have undivided with 5+ exploding 😢
Terminators not any good?
They can be! For me it's a playstyle thing, they're just a taaaad more expensive than I like but I've definitely seen lists run them really well before. They're great bodyguards for a Termie Sorcerer for example & are incredibly chunky in Fellhammer Siege Host etc. They also have a boatload of 2D output which is really valuable compared to Chosen or the sort
Thing is I can bring x2 squads of Raptors or almost a brick of Warp Talons for around the same cost so when you start looking for points to spare they're often one of the first units you look at cutting
I really love my terminators in renegade raiders. But they are so expensive unfortunately.
11/10 model
But yeah even though I built him up he has waaaaay too high of cost to be competitive atm so you're spot on... Sadly
@@fatarchon Dont worry my chaos brother. Lord disco also one of my top favorite models. Maybe next points update ll do some favor for him.
I'm hoping him & the Heldrake get some love. Hell maybe even Spawn will be usable - GW specifically said they'd be looking at OC 0 profiles to reduce points costs on now that Pariah Nexus is here so pray to the dark gods with me hah
SIgh. I have made some mistakes building things. hmm
For friendly matches just do "counts as" & say they're whatever. Even some RTTs are cool with that! Besides, what's meta or not changes all the time so don't sweat it
Dark commune 65pt
At least I was close 😜
