Am somone who plays both Tyranids and GCS, I find it so frustrating when other peopels core army rules jsut works every turn. Tyranids Shadow in the warp does nothing against any marine army 99% of the time, and sometimes does something agaisnt other armies on one turn of the game. GCSE sometimes brings back a unit but most of the time seams to barly help. Then on the other wise you have things like Oath of Moment or For the Greator Good, which ALWAYS do something. That’s the kinda game that would make me put the army on eBay afterwards. Gg lads especially nick for keeping a level head that would be so infuriating 😂
I’m not trying to be rude here, but that game was decided by the end of turn 1. Nick just didn’t have an answer to all the monsters that Tycho had, and his reinforcements never came. That said: the game ended closer than I thought. Huge props to Nick for putting up one hell of a fight, considering the hand he was dealt. I’m a space marines player, and I thought we core codex marines had it bad, but I feel for the GSC right now. They seem *really* anemic, and far too dependent on rolling high numbers to accomplish anything - but specifically what they need in order to stay in the fight/win their fights.
GSC needs something different to bring something back as this was so tragic, something like a token point system or a set amount of bring backs as they feel so underpowered. Just felt like a rebellion with no reinforcements and a bit of a cleansing than a uprising
This was more entertaining than such a one way battle had any right to be. From Tycho's heart felt, "Aww sorry Nick" to Nick sportingly and slightly hysterically dealing with quite literally biblically bad dice. This episode is probably a mathamaticians dream. I recall Steve Box having a dice rolling nightmare with his Blood Angels during his inaugural match here, but I think Nick has just taken that title. Nick, my tip would be more shooty deep strike ambushes. Get those hand flamers roasting infantry. Goliaths might be a better way to get metamorphs and acolytes into melee too. Oh and there is no way you are ever going to be that unlucky with your reinforcement rolls again. 😊
Rise, scaly brothers! As an aside, one army depends on making 4+'s on one dice. One army full of multi-wound models powers up every turn, with a chance of taking wounds failing a 7+ on 2D6. Math.
Man genestealers have a rough mechanic since it got nerfed. Their whole army is balanced around it and they made it unreliable in general so damn that sucks. I know people say they are a high skill cap army but they don’t do anything better than anyone else with that high skill so not sure why they don’t get some buffs.
It’s standard back and forth rules for 40k. Armies go from rule buffs that make them meta to rule nerfs that make them unplayable. I believe this is marketing strategy, where Games Workshop don’t want players to just have a good army but rather constantly need to buy additional troops or an additional army for the current edition. Genestealer cult were second only to Eldar (who will be nerfed badly) for a time, so unfortunately now they get punished for it. In a few years, GSC will be meta again.
This hurt to watch so much, especially cause i relate to it as a GSC player. Having dozens of units die off and then just not coming back is the worst feeling. Although I'm 100% feeling for nick, I do feel like there was a fault or two in his strategy. Firstly with the patriarch not having a full 10 man squad. Considering how squishy GS are, a 10 man squad will be reduced to a 5 man very quickly. But the other thing is not utilizing any of the, very good, enhancements that we got. Infiltrate on Abominant, plush one to damage and AP for the patriarch, both units become pretty strong. It does feel like the general army has suffered a lot in recent times, and I'm really hopping that the next update will see us buffed, at least a little in our detachments, and maybe, if we're lucky in the army rule too.
I feel like the Genestealer Blips should be guarunteed the first time a blippable unit is wiped out, then for the rest of the game it becomes a 2+, a 3+, and then a 4+ after the 4th time a unit is wiped out (this would be global, not per-unit, just kind of hard to write it down). I get the reason why it's random, but it feels too random for being a core part of the army.
