    I used an SKF Timing Belt and bearings on my 2015 Tiguan. all good quality, I would buy again. Now I have a 2018 Tiguan it's coming up to 115000Km and I will do the timing belt at 120000km. But i have read about a lot of clone/copies of very low quality that copy genuine makers names and stamp, so I will only buy parts form a reputable seller.

    My family has several MK4 Vw's and they're all running the Continental Contitech timing kits with HEPU Water Pumps ( all aluminium made in germany) + HEPU Coolant. So far so good. Really good bang for your buck kits.

    I bought that ruville.. Noname waterpump failed after couple of hunderd kilometers. I had to do it again using Italian mfg waterpump, which has worked flawlessly

    Good luck with Dayco. Installed a timing belt kit 4 years and only 30000 miles ago (I drive very little). The roller started to throw grease right out of the box and become rough 6 months later. I replaced it. Today I've inspected the belt and the surface is cracked every inch or so - surface cracks about 1/2 inch long. This belt is expected to last 100000 miles but I'm replacing it right now, I don't want to lose my engine because of it. Do not touch this brand.
    I don't even want to imagine installing a water pump from them. If you installed one, check your water pump every few months, before it's too late.

      Gates is now owned by China to Dayco in Australia for a full timing belt kit with water pump is over $400 for my Mitsubishi Mk triton 4g64 engine genuine parts from Mitsubishi would be worth more then the car lol.

    The problem with aftermarket is you don't know without looking at them at the time of purchase, who made the major components.
    With my GM/Opel car, the original OEM bearings are made by SKF. I purchased a Gates timing belt kit as the bearing are identical to the OEM. I have "heard", but cannot confirm that the OEM belt is also made Gates. The engine mount brackets are identical to the OEM. Basically it is the OEM timing belt kit, without the GM/Opel premium.
    However I have "heard" newer versions of the Gates kit have replaced the bearings (most common failure mode) with non-OEM SKF bearings.

    The difference on weight is due to the Germany pump pulley isn't hollow like the dayco.
    I just bought a dayco set for my Ej8 and a set for my Ej2 B18b1 swap and both comes with GMB water pumps great new pumps lifetime warranty non reman and also both kits are Lifetime warranty.

    I wouldn’t say Dayco is a budget kit . They are quality parts, but I agree the water pump is poor quality if there’s play in the shaft

    cool vid but unfortunately, u really cant tell abt longevity and build quality on timing belt kits by visuals alone... there would need to be long term testing ,review of customer feedback and testing of components after putting miles on them...outside of the scope of this video, but thats what is really needed, just really hard to find when ur in the market for these kits!!

  • @MasterChief-sl9ro

    That is not plastic. It's reinforced nylon. It's also bonded to a stainless steel shaft..
    The only real issue. Is what bearing did they use. As cheap bearings have little to no grease in them. Use cheaper ball bearings. No metal on inside of the lip seal..

  • @SuPPerReaPPer
    @SuPPerReaPPer 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    the plastic one is shit the impellers tend to break off and get lost in your cooling system

  • @juliogonzo2718
    @juliogonzo2718 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would want the metal impeller over plastic. If any scale or other crap comes loose in the coolant, it's just going to eat it and keep pumping

    Dayco is manufactured in Italy it doesn't stretch very well it's very hard to put on I know I tried it and all those value brand timing belt's the parts are substandard and made out of cheap material the bearings are made in China and they don't last the tensioners don't always fit properly and they don't work well you wind up buying new and different ones

    ANY brand of pump with a plastic impeller head = NOT going to be as durable as a metal impeller. Sometimes there is no choice but the good thing is you will know in a few years to replace it.
    HOWEVER, Dayco brand belts = absolute crap. If you have a choice, go with OEM manufacturer or Gates brand.

      I've fit plenty of Dayco timing belt kits on VAG vehicles. They are definitely a manufacturers specified part along with gates. INA are truly the best all round imho. German engineering with an aluminum impeller on the water pumps. I've had no comeback with these belts.
