nice job... same happened to me when attempting to remove that stupid bolt, the teeth just disintegrated. Every one of those cheap ebay cam locking tools has the same issue with the pins bending due to the small weak bolts they use to join them to the main brace (my mate welded my one up so its "fixed" that problem).
Nice work never quite as easy as you think. Watching from the Uk enjoying the vids run a 2006 golf gti myself, plan to pull the engine and give it a refresh in a few years.
Done this on my mk5 gti after fitting the chain and pulling the pin on the tensioner the chain is still sloppy on the bottom it’s got me bloody baffled think I’ve done it wrong, the cam locking kit is very similar to yours in fact probably the same, the lobes on the tool kept going slack, when turning the inlet cam the exhaust moves loads to get the vvt on to the locating dowl and the chain is tight on the top slide and sloppy on the bottom I’m absolutely hating this and don’t want to build it up as I think I’ve done it wrong
@@projectmarkv thanks mate for information I’m a diesel technician by trade don’t work on petrol engines so was baffled to bits, sad news anyway my crank is toast span a shell on no4 nothing left loads of swarf in the sump so I’m after a new engine at the moment
Great work. I've got a 200,000km mk5 gti that I started working on myself and have found this video invaluable. Your idle cleaning up makes me want to do the same for my chain and tensioner. Out of curiosity, where do you generally source parts from? I'm having trouble finding quality parts in Aus and have had to shop around heaps. Cheers.
@@cheapthrillsgarage thanks mate I'll have a look at HSY. I've had good results so far from Run Auto. Sometimes Rock Auto in the states seems to work out pretty well too. Chinese market seems to saturate all my search results normally. Cheers!
You’re the first person I’ve seen use red thread locker of little tty bolts. Seen blue or without several times. Ever have any problems getting them out or do you hit with heat first or use very minimal?
My timing chain scrapes inside the cover grinds inside and metal pieces are blocking the pick up pipe. Iv took to 5 mechanics and had timing chain re timed and replaced twice. Third time at the mechanics rn i have no hope in someone fixing this. Was fine before i got chain replaced wish i never did it now and just let it snap one day lol
Excellent video. Those polybolts are absolutely shite. I've taken off 3 with quality tools and I've had to drill them out like you have. I've had to take my new bolt out due to slight mistiming and they're just as shite as old ones lol. Cheers mate
Because SKF designed their belts, tensioner and pump to be used together. Every tension and force each manufacturer designs their parts with is slightly different. It is always better to use one brand with everything.

Without any drilling, a T55 and a lump hammer... Rounded bolt came right out
Great video, would it be possible for you to give us the part numbers you bought?
Yeah I’ll put one in the comments in the next few days
You use that loctite 518 flange sealant on vacuum pump o-rings too? Never heard of that trick but sounds brilliant!
I use it as an aid on all rubber o-rings. It reduces your chance of pinching them.
Hi! Thanks for this in depht tutorial for these jobs! Do you still have the partnumber for those Elring oil control rings, or where I can find those?
The Elring website has a great parts lookup program
Maybe that will fit

Hey mate, what engine code is that? My mechanic says my engine is different from the one that was originally in it, and yours looks identical to mine.
Great video! One question though. I’ve done the job myself and noticed the the chain has some slack on the bottom. Did you experience the same?
Yeah mine was the same

@@dirkdingle7926 it’s supposed to be like that. The chain tightens when the system gets oil pressure

HSY Autoparts are good, also Run Auto parts. Sparesbox are useless.

how awesome to have your engine out of the car.
need to do some mods soon!

All loctite threadlocker is red, I don't use the strong one.
@@cheapthrillsgarage All thread locked isn’t red. Red is usually permanent or heat to break loose. Blue is medium and then you have green.

There is no reason that should be happening. I'd take it back to the original place and demand they fix it.

Why not use Gates RTB Belt ? and HEPU Metal Waterpump ?

Hi, could you please give me the reference for the carbon seals and the screw?
Get the seals number off the ELRING website, they have a good lookup tool. Call VW for the bolt. That is where I got them from.
Do you have the OE number op the cam bolt?
06D 109 281 D
What is the part number for dial guage ?
It is not a VW part, you can buy them from a parts shop.
Super robota
Nice job ! Can you have all the reference please ?
What do you mean?
The référence ofall the parts used in the video
