yes it is the top 30. however it excludes all songs older than 1 year, many of which would still dominate. Hoshimachi Suiseis original work is definetly worth checking out. Her and Calli are the most recogniced artists in Hololive currently.

certain covers like Suisei's phony, Gura and Calli king and Laplace Godish were always in the list so they're exluded to shine more light on new covers

Number 9 got more plays than Calli because it's Kanata... Her range is the entire scale lol. She has a cover called The Narrow Way she did where she does a male/female duet on her own and then there's Uma to Shika where she just keeps going higher, she also performed a live version of Unravel where she held a note for around 20 seconds..... she's incredible. Even more so when you find out she's deaf in one ear.

Here is a list of the artists for the songs (don't know all the song titles, but the artists alone might already help):

    18: Iroha
    17: Kanata / La+

Out of Hololive singers, Hoshimachi Suisei is the most well known one, even appearing on The First Take, twice, you can pretty much listen to any of her original/covers and be astonished with her talent, to name a few: Crybaby cover (Tokyo Revengers opening), Saga Jihen cover (ZombieLand Saga anime song) and Ghost (original song).
Besides Suisei, Hololive has many more talents, and I will name my favorite ones:
    Tokoyami Towa (the girl with a really low voice from 10th place, I recommend her cover of Error or her original Palette);
    Moona Hoshinova (did not appear a single time in this video, but was featured in Bebas, I recommend any of her KDA covers or her original High Tide);
AZKi (featured in a few songs here, also one of the two VSingers from Hololive, alongside IRyS who was in 1st place, I recommend her original Inochi); and
Takane Lui (the girl who covered Chainsaw Man, is amazing at dark/ominous songs, like her original Overd, or her cover of Love Ka?)

Ay yo Gaz, haven't been able to drop by in a bit but I love that you are getting more and more into hololive's music. You asked who you should go check out, and if I'm being honest man, all of em. They're just all so unique and bring their own beautiful voices to the table in different ways. Regarding the song choices, they can range from popular Japanese songs, vocaloid, anime, video game. Their reach knows no bounds when it comes to songs they cover. Also noticed you pointed out Startend. Startend is the unit of Hoshimachi Suisei (my favorite vtuber)/Tokoyami Towa/Minato Aqua. They were formed to participate in an Apex tournament and they came up with the name Startend, so now that's what they are called when they sing together on a song. This happens to many "units" in holopro as members that collab often usually get a name for their group. About the amount of views, it all really just depends on taste. Not that Calli's version of Idol wasn't as good as Amane Kanata (#9), but fanbases of certain members like to loop their oshi (favorite member) version more so than others.

Glad you're liking what you're hearing. I'm a huge fan of hololive music, especially the original songs, so I highly suggest checking out the original song countdown from the same channel as well. It's posted bi-weekly on Wednesday, and the next one will be released on the 12th.
And if you want to go deeper in-depth on some of these artists, here's my opinion on where you should start, including some song suggestions:
Hoshimachi Suisei (powerful voice that you really feel in your soul)
originals: Stellar Stellar, Planetarium, Ghost, Template
covers: Saga Jihen, Phony, GETCHA (with Mori Calliope), Haiiro to Ao (with Tokoyami Towa)
Tokoyami Towa (deep voice, great rock songs and ballads)
originals: Palette, FACT, Raimei, My Roar
covers: -Error, W/X/Y, Hearts, Gira Gira
Takane Lui (strong, jazzy voice with some growl and can also soften up nicely)
originals: Fools Fools Fools, Overd, First Cry, TSUBASA
covers: Love Ka?, EYE, Fukuro-san, Shikabaneeze
I would make this comment 10 times larger if I kept going, but there are really too many names, so here's just a few more names that come to mind: Omaru Polka, Hakos Baelz, Moona Hoshinova, Houshou Marine, Sakamata Chloe, Amane Kanata...
    ...ok need to stop

Looking forward to another Holo Music reaction in the future. If i can recommend, nothing better than check theirs official MV and there's the list
    1. Hololive alternative 1 & 2 (yes they hv part 1&2, this one is like theirs music video for Hololive RPG game)
    2. Seishun archive (recently coming, this one is for this year Hololive summer event theme)

There's literally HOURS of Idol covers in Hololive alone, if you were wondering, and some new even coming out recently. Just like Kyoufuu all back (the one with the Cabbage chopping MV), all have different funny visual having to do with the member singing. There's a sequel out now and some member already have a cover of it, like Noel just dropped one.
Also, you should check out IRyS's version of Idol, the MV is FANTASTIC

19:45 - IRyS is a Vsinger. Not much difference for viewers, but there's difference in process of writing albums.
Vtubers are mostly streamers. If they want to make song they should buy themselves Search people and studios. Vsingers in turn, sign a contract with a specific studio and producer, who will do what the producers of ordinary singers do.

    Welcome to the Rabbit Hole.
This channel also creates a top 30 Original Songs every two weeks. There is also a separate channel that does the Holostars Covers and Originals every two weeks (Holostars being the male branch of Hololive).
For vocalists, you've already met Calli, and she has frequently collabbed with Hoshimachi Suisei, which you might remember from The First Take. Her catalog of covers and originals could be an entire stream all on its own. Other powerful vocalists in Hololive are Tokoyami Towa (the one who sang W/X/Y in this list), IRyS (the english virtual singer who lives in japan) and her JP counterpart AZKi. If you want some dark horses, whose voices go under the radar, try Yozora Mel and Hakos Baelz (who just released an original EP TODAY). Also one person you cannot miss is Ayunda Risu of Hololive Indonesia. She is considered by many to be the Celine Dion of Hololive.
I would recommend taking a look at some of their 3D Live Performances, as they cover songs that you normally would not hear anywhere else, and also they tend to have special guests come on. To explain, each Hololive member has two major celebrations, their debut anniversary, and their birthday, of each typically will get a 3D motion capture live event on TH-cam. There are other events that happen outside of it. I recommend watching the New Years 2023 Countdown first, as it covers many of the major branches and talents (and all the streams on TH-cam are ok to watch on Twitch).

I think i've posted this before, but my first picks for hololive songs would be
Tokoyami Towa - error (cover), followed by Palette, her first original song
Amane Kanata - Unravel (3D live version) - cover of TK song
Hoshimachi Suisei - Stellar Stellar (First Take) (original song)
Omaru Polka - Everblue (original), though maybe this is better after something like 'Hologram Circus' first
    Laplus Darknesss - God-ish / 神っぽいな (cover)
    Sakamata Chloe - 偽物人間40号 (cover)

You asked why we think some of the other Idol covers are above Calli's and I'll just say that while she is great on the rap parts, she is not great at belting. A good example is when they sing "idol" in the chorus and Calli has to pull back a little into head voice, whereas someone like Kanata can keep up the power and intensity in that part.

I would recommend taking a look at the Original Songs version of this list on that same channel. While the renditions of these covers are done well, the same ones tend to end up clogging the list especially if some of these songs are recently trending. For the originals, you can get a different song every step of the way aside from the singer.

What I can explain to you here is:
    1. Since the ranking is based on the number of views a video has in a week, newer songs are more likely to have a higher number of views in a week than some older songs.
    2. Yes, I know Calliope is a great singer, however, her singing style is not suitable for "Idol", at least in my opinion. And she tried to sing cute in this cover, which is different from her usual singing style, and...to be honest, her singing is really not suitable for this kind of singing. Also, I really do enjoy Kanata and IRyS's version of this song more than Calli's version.
    3. Hoshimachi Suisei is a great singer, too! I really suggest you to listen to some of her songs first, if you really want to get into this rabbit hole.

easy answer why JP has higher view than EN
because vtuber fanbase is larger on JP side..
also EN people also watch Holo JP and still watches even after the existence of Holo ID and EN
while only few JP people watch Holo ID and EN simply because of language barrier
most of EN people who watches vtubers also watches anime already and understand rudimentary JP
with that said, Holo EN and ID are actually well known in JP side
specially Gura (cuteness) and Calli (music) from what i personally seen
both Kronii (dry humor) and Fauna (her hologra debut) are getting more attention lately
both Irys and Baelz getting their own JP fans because they talk JP from time to time

Gura and Calli have the song [Q] (yes, it's just the letter) and Calli and Suisei have hte original song Capsule. my Favorite cover by Gura is Target for love, but she also did a collab cover for Renai Circulation. i'm not sure what covers Suisei has officially done, she mostly does original songs

For most of these songs, they are high on the list because recency bias, which makes sense.
Some artists on this list are also known as great singers, which attracts a huge amount of people just by them uploading a song (Kanata and Suisei)
We also have this song weird meme song appear several times because that's just very popular at the moment in Japan (I personally am not really a fan of it)
The biggest collab songs on this list (3+ members, like song 23, 15 and 12), aswell as those that are months old, those are the ones that will be on the list for months to come, while some of the Idol covers, the meme song and other songs on here, will slowly fade out.

The cover lists very often have many repeat songs on them, since... Hololive is a pretty big group of girls and they don't all have the time (or reason) to check what everyone else is doing, so naturally, when there is a song that's popular recently, roughly 30-50% of Hololive (57 members total) are likely to do their own cover of that song. If somebody doesn't have a cover of that song on that list, it means one of 3 things:
    - they didn't make one
    - they didn't make one _yet_
    - they aren't popular enough to get on the list with it
That last point is kind of the problem with these sorts of lists - most often, the ranking is less so decided by how good a song was performed and more by a combination of:
    1. Which member is more popular/well-known (there is a difference here)
    2. How popular is the song in itself
The quality of the cover/original is tertiary for the sake of views and thus also for the sake of the placing on those rankings. Also, naturally the "NEW" songs get a lot more views than usual and oftentimes, what starts around the top 5 one week, is very likely to end up either near the very beginning of the list the next week or... out of the list altogether.
All in all, the lists are often dominated by members who are... "outsider popular", that is - liked by people _like you,_ who usually know very little about the artist/repertoire of the artist overall, but still come to the conclusion that they *must undoubtedly be* the best one of them and anyone claiming otherwise is 'factually wrong' or something like that. I assume that you have a similar opinion ironically, but I assure you that many of such "fans" are actually serious about that.
Anyway, some examples of such members are: Mori Calliope, Hoshimachi Suisei, Tokoyami Towa.

I really like Calli but honestly, I don't think she's even in the top 10 singers in Hololive. Just my opinion though.

    "I'm new to Hololive"
Welcome to the rabbit hole, now that you are in there's no going back and even if you could you will most likely not want to leave.

I don't know enough about Hololive to tell you who most of these singers are, but I can at least write down the original songs. One little footnote: Vocaloid is huge in Japan, both in terms of songs produced and in terms of popularity (bigger than Hololive itself, just to give you an idea), which is why most Hololive covers are often of Vocaloid songs: they earn you thousands of views right away. I really suggest checking out some Vocaloid songs if you have the time.
