    Thank you, John, for another of your straight forward and honest reviews from a trusted RC expert. All of us experienced grayhaired RC hobbyists know the irrepressible upgrade compulsion and that the hobby is really an addiction. I look forward to your next video: the Wraith 1.9 upgrade part 1. Thanks again.

    Another great one from axial, although the haters are hating on it. Nothing new, just a warmed over design with borrowed parts , blah blah... out of the box that thing is kicking some butt. We have just gotten spoiled by just what an amazing design the wraith is......hope they pull out the stops on a 2.2 version sometime. 2.2 worthy portals, brushless capable power train, maybe a southern rock bouncer style/scale tube chassis, 4ws capable.......

    I bought one and I’m really liking it, it seems like mine has less torque twist than yours. Obviously this could be from the exact obstacle you’re on. My first upgrade was a pinion, metal servo arm (both less than 15$) and now some metal links. Good fun! Don’t sweat it too much people it’s fun to drive, and works pretty well out of the box

    I have the Wraith Spawn, my first and last Axial product. I say this because I could not have been more disappointed with it. When I first got it, I knew when I took it out of the box that I should have returned it, but I did not and gave it a fair shot. First run the thing fell apart. Front axle fell off and the rear shock tower came off as well. Turns out the bolts were not tightened from the get go. so I returned home to give it the once over. Since then the truck was constantly breaking in some way or other, the drag brake was useless with any tweak I gave it, even took it to a shop to have them look it over. A few times out on the trail I wanted to stop it to bits and walk away from it. Lesson learned.It has been sitting in my basement under a shelf for a year or so now. In my opinion, for the money its is in my opinion, cheap quality. Don't quite understand the hype for this company. I have looked at other Axial trucks and to me they all seem poorly built and quite flimsy. I have the idea for tearing it down and doing a complete rebuild on it. Tho only thing holding me back is the flimsy frame it sits on. They look cool and that'e where it ends for me. I'm sure I will get bashed for my opinion so have at it.

      I've had an scx10 ii for a while and just got the axial wraith spawn today. It's awesome, it has more pace then the scx10 ii and handling is easier to control and more stable on side hills and just hooning around fast. It went everywhere slow that the scx10 ii did to but was let down by the ripsaw tyres a little I think compared to the hyrax predator on my scx10 ii. I also have a 1/8 hpi trophy truggie flux. That thing is insane for speed and jumps but is way easier to break lol. That being said I think I might already like the wraith the best as it can still do some fun jumps like the truggie and bash around at a decent speed while still able to crawl slow like the scx10 ii

    Them plastic links really are a punch 🤜 to the gut. The ECX Barrage should of set the standard a couple years back offering metal links out the box for 180$.

    • @HolmesHobbies

      yeah, and it seems standard for axial to have plastic links on rtr rigs now

      I went from the barrage straight to the Gelande II, plastic links is kind of surprising. That’s not enough to stop me from buying it though haha.

      It's ridiculously overpriced and is all plastic besides the internals, the entire rig is plastic the only freaking metal is the gears and shit, to make this even half way decent you need to drop another 250$ easy lmao, I like Axial but I would like to punch whoever does the pricing in the throat.

    • @HolmesHobbies
      @HolmesHobbies  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      To be fair, I've never had a rig that didn't get better tires and electronics. RTR rigs just don't come with decent rubber or electrics. My main gripe at this price point is the links, and also lack of front universals.

    • @blackbirdrc8348
      @blackbirdrc8348 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I meannnnn, You don't HAVE to. Tires though, 100% like every other rig. I plan on using the plastic links for a while.

    • @stpbasss3773
      @stpbasss3773 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HolmesHobbies yeah the electronics are always just ok on a RTR same with the rubber like you said, I just think for 370 they should give you metal links and a plastic chassis that's just crazy to me the entire rig is plastic besides the internals. I would buy one if it was 270$ or 299$ like it should be priced. Then they release the umg 10 and it comes with the best links Axial makes, aluminum shocks, an interior, beadlocks and on and on for 299$, way better deal.

  • @RevolutionX

    I just picked this up as my first crawling rig so I don't have much to base it on (more of an airplane/drone guy), but so far it's been a blast. I run it on 2s LiPo and the throttle's much more manageable imo. It's disappointing to hear that I could've gotten a rig with more metal parts out of the box, but that just means more upgrade time :)

    This rig would look so sick with some 2.2 mudslingers and black wagon wheels. The 2.2 mudslingers are kind of on the smaller side so it wouldn't look too out of place. Maybe widen it too? Thinking about picking this up as a second rig to compliment my trx4 sport. Any thoughts?

    I agree about the plastic links at this price point. Overall it doesn't look bad. Stickier Tires and your Electronics, and it should Rock!!

    Did you get the old version or the upgraded version with the redesigned bumper mount? Seems the bumper mount is breaking far too often so Horizon is doing the right thing and redesigning.
    It's a very cool rig, but it's typical Axial in that there's way too much plastic at this high price point.
    I'm also blown away by the amount of torque twist! Axial didn't do their homework on this geometry.

    • @HolmesHobbies
      @HolmesHobbies  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They used the scx10ii geometry and threw on the cage. With less body weight the geometry is great. With this cage it needs some help, and a sway bar helped a ton.

    Great look at the new 1.9 Wraith but not hearing much good about this rig other than it's looks & couple of features. Not sure if it's just haters beating it up or not but it all keeps me from pulling the trigger on one, really dislike the plastic links. It looks like it came with dog Bones, I would replace them asap, at the same time as you do the links so you can turn sharper and less likely to damage front axle. At that price point they use to come with metal links and no dog Bones. After seeing they used plastic links and dog bones, I just bought a builder kit and dropped my wraith Jeep body and cage on it. Surface RC certainly seems to go in trends, as I have observed over the last 32 years. It's tough when you like a certain thing and then that thing dies out. @@HolmesHobbiesThat's understandable. I was never really impressed by Redcat's offerings until now. I've had the SCX10, SCX10 II, TRX-4 and Vaterra Ascender and the Gen 8 has been my favorite rig so far.

    Honestly... overpriced. plastic links , non cvd i belive dog bones = poor turning radius. and the price is just way to much for what your getting.

      yeah, the lack of unis and plastic links would be my biggest gripe.
