I bought one of the inexpensive transmissions from Amazon and was amazed at how close it was to my Vanquish. I liked how you showed the SAE vs metric deal. I hadn't measured that. It's cool that someone tried to put out a decent one, with the shims and all. Mine was noisy till I ran it for a bit, now it's smooth as ice.
My sons scx10 2 clone has that same trans without the dig and it's been great for a while now! I'd bet it'll work just as good as the vanquish. Plus it comes pre-assembled

What alot of people dont realize about the production world is you can only hold the patent for a certain item for a year until it has to be renewed. Most companies dont renew. So any overseas company can then by the blueprints and manufacturer the same piece for a fraction of the cost. LOGISTICS AT WORK
@@ExocagedRC IT is longer in the USA. 20 years. renewals might be short after the initial 20 years, but by that time a lot of products are obsolete. And yes I deal with filing for patents in my career.
Just matter if time before they copyed their dig Iam shore it will wear out do to softer metals but i think I am gonna try it aleast .in one hand hate copy's in another aleast you can try to see if it is for you without dishing out money up front .keep up great work and have great day.
Biggest diff I noticed was the tolerances in metric scale vs SAE. I know Vanquish likes to use SAE a lot, like the 4-40 screws instead of the 3 mills. Makes ya wonder if the manufacturer just thought it better to use one scale all throughout.
Funny I just ordered of of these cheapo boxes to see what there like. I’ve also ordered a vp one to. My guess would be the vp one will be better on tolerances and machine work.

be cool if it was a 2 speed with dig, selectable 2wd/4wd, even traxxas needs a set up like this. 2 speed with dig, selectable 2wd/4wd without modifications to the chassis, transmission swap, modifications to the drive shafts. but seen videos where they did that on trx4, but no servo. manually switch. that be a pain cause rock crawlers ain't always in 4wd neither regular rc non rock crawlin 4wd trucks

You know, I’m honestly torn on all imported the “chanquish” parts. Because part of me says IP theft IS THEFT, but also I’m a total cheapskate. Like if they have to reverse engineer it anyway and put the parts into production why not put a little tiny bit more effort in and make a similar product that’s their own design?
Don't forget... In some cases they steal from we the consumer because a lot of these expensive parts we buy are the same. They pay pennies and brand it and sell it at 200% margin or MORE. most times when you buy (not always) name brand hi price, you are being ripped off. Soooooo. Who is the thief? They are all marketing scammers and don't care. We should just buy cheapest possible.
As long as it is different in anyway. Its not considered IP . I am personally glad there are lower cost options I have been priced out of completing projects due to a very limited budget. When it comes to the essentials always buy name brand for costumer support alone. I have been running knock offs for just about everything else and if I didnt tell no ones notices anyway.
Is it machined or cast, couldn't hear well when I was watching. I assume gear and bearing quality are your variables. You can drop 80 on bearings without blinking. Another patent lost to over seas.
I know some things from Vanquish are made in USA. Is that the case with their hertz dig unit? That would justify the extra for me. Heck, plastic 3 gears can be found used for $10

Yeah probably, I got all the Vanquish links in the description as well. I found another SMT trans on eBay so I got that ordered so that Vanquish will get used somewhere.

Yes, I have done it. But you will have to shim it on one side, so the motor clears the rear link mount. You can buy a skid, or just fill the stock skid with JB and re-drill.

I just ordered this for my scx 10. I have a Jeep rubicon body coming I hope I don’t have to trim a lot off the body. Also what size servo horn will I need, or will a regular sized horn work ok? Use a Tamiya servo saver horn,the dig transmission sometimes doesn't fall into place,but that's pretty much with all transmission. It will save the servo from over loading and possibly the transmission dog tooth that engages
my trx4 bronco chassis had to be modified for the scx10 transmission plate to work. plus, scx10 chassis gear box, need 1/4 inch spacers for both sides. plus scx10 be single speed there unless you get 2 speed scx10, but be a pain for the dig. servos unless you get a micro servo and mount. might or might not work since 2 speed with dig needs a longer chassis and drive shaft work, angled downward to the front or rear. mine is turned around, angled and pointed downward towards the front so it be smooth for free roll in 2wd, rear pull, 4wd all pull, dig, rear pull, front locked for doughnuts and burnouts
I don't like buying knock offs but vanquish stuff is to costly I looked at 1 axle from them it was 300 dollars where I could get a front and rear for half the price.

Its like a $20 difference I think. I rather support the American based co. for a better product always. And you are correct with softer metals. I have experienced that my self with china brand parts. They DO wear out quicker. I buy the real stuff.
The vanquish dig unit is $88. The $60 unit in the video is the entire transmission and dig unit. So its more like a $190 difference if you bought a 3 gear vanquish trans and vanquish dig.
Vanquish has CNC operations in California. I believe all of there stuff is made in the USA. I don't mind the China sourced stuff, but I wish more people would realize when they straight up steal IP. They scanned the Vanquish unit, swapped hardware to metric, and started popping out copies.
An exact carbon copy replica knock off - all depends on how well a person follows their morals of right and wrong. Personally... things like this are flat out theft. Taking the time, thought, and engineering effort of one person and simply copying it to make a quick buck.

That being said I'm sure corners are cut, like materials and tolerances but for a lot of people saving the money plays a huge role in the decision made on which one to purchase especially if the cheaper version works well. I myself buy cheaper beadlocks ( treal brand ). None of them are clones of vanquish products that i own And I have had zero issues using them.

Designing at least for me in CAD is a skill that I thought would be much easier. I am good with computers however when I started playing around in CAD I realized why design work is so expensive it takes a lot of time. That being said I can't afford vanquish parts all the time. I'm using the one that came with it. I think it's 48 pitch. I don't know the tooth count.

The bolt in bearing seat is smart. I hate to purchase stolen patents but it may need to happen.

For the slop of the arm, drill a hole in the silver shaft, tap it to a. Screw size, add a screw and washer. That will tighten the slop

I had purchased that transmission for my scx10 iii but sadly it wont work because the dig unit hits the link mount.

It's because vanquish hired a company to make that part and the company also sells it. You pay double to have the vanquish name.
Is that true? the double is because vanquish is the one to design and develop it. when you just copy it's twice as easier

About $50 for a complete SMT 3-gear trans on eBay. I ordered that last night.
All of VP's aluminum is machined in California at their shop.

It should bolt in. You may have to make adjustments to the shafts and clearances for the dig unit and all.

Hey man yeah the GT5 would be good on the toggle switch. Ch4 I think it is.
I used a stock remote out of an element for 3 position and it works just fine too

It locked the rear driveshaft and let’s the front drive and pull the truck around. Usually for very tight turns
