- It’s not exactly a new rig in a few ways, but it since it’s done right, it is certainly a new rig that will bring the excitement. What you’re looking at here is the new Axial Racing Wraith 1.9 4WD Scale Crawler, an Exciting Adventure Rig that has been built by custom RC builders for some time by taking parts from the Axial Wraith and Axial SCX10 II and fitting the two together into the rig you’ll see in this review. The Axial Wraith 1.9 was done right, a new lower chassis section was developed to get all the parts to fit properly while maintaining excellent handling and performance. This truck speaks to the segment of those who want scale looks, scale performance of SCX10 type trucks and still have the option to go out and bomb though rocks and mud like you would do with a Wraith. I started watching this earlier today(as well as Harley’s)before my lunch break. I only got a few minutes into yours, then immediately called my closest lhs, who informed me they had just one, the orange one(which is what I wanted), so I scheduled an extended lunch and drove into town to pick it up. Getting ready to take this thing down to the nearest trails!
How did you like it?
J&K Newb Not enough to keep it. The performance is okay, but I don’t enjoy driving it much. I also don’t like the “rock racer” style. When it comes to scale 4x4’s, I’m finding that I mostly prefer the models that reflect the type of vehicle I would want in 1:1 size, if money was no issue. 😁

@@jknewb6276 Out of the box, it performs a little better than an SCX10 II Deadbolt, which is very similar in build and style. It comes with metal tranny gears, which is a plus. I'd recommend some cvd's to improve steering.

got two of these, one for me and one for my fiance. we love running our rigs on the local mountain bike trails, we always get a great reception from the hikers and mnt bikers. we live in Chaffee County Colorado, aka heaven for 1/10th scale wheelin. in the end, thank you for your completely thorough review, your review made our decision on which trail rigs to get much easier and we couldn't be happier.

Pan hard and rear shock mounts look flexy, does the chassis feel overly 'compliant'? And are those sway bar mounts I see at the rear end? It's a good looking kit! Great review, appreciate the body off footage. Thank for mentioning the lower clearance.

Very capable out of the box. I personally would put a slightly thicker shock oil to slow down the action for a more realistic look. Either way very cool!
Bill Perri There’s lots of parts support for the Axial. The Gen 8 is also a great performer. Look up TH-camr RC Reviews. He’s got really good comparisons by taking various rigs and putting them head to head. Either one will put a smile on your face. I personally would grab the UMG10 because I love Unimogs.

Thanks for the body off shots, looks like a lot of currently existing Wraith parts which is great for the aftermarket. What I'm curious about now is whether I can use that front bumper mount for the 2.2 Wraith as well.
MegaSneetch The new radiator frame mounts where the old Wraith bumper goes. You’d have to do something custom to fit it.
@@rcdriver Right, you have to remove the old bumper of course but the new one essentially bolts up to the bottom two tubes and I'll figure out the rest with removing the top two.
Thank you for your insightful review, I’m considering a second RTR rig, I already own an Element Sendero HD, been stuck on a Wraith 1.9 or the Element Trailrunner so my wife can join me along. I don’t know anyone that has tried both and has an opinion on them.

Do you know if the KMC wheels were aluminium and beadlocks or just plastic? I can’t find anything about it unfortunately. And do you know if there’s upgrades you can do for the front axle cv joints like changing to a uni joint style over the cup style?

Very cool! Is it just me or does it look a lot like ike a topless Red Cat? And Traxxas just happened to put out an orange truck. Hood is a great feature too!

I like everything except the battery connector. I have 2 other Axial rigs with the Dean's connector now new management new connector to make most folks buy new batteries.
Learn to solder. It's not that hard.
@@iadubber maybe for you but not everyone has steady hands(like me sometimes). Plus I already can solder but that wasn't the point I was making at the end.
It's a nice looking truck, and I want to get one as my first axial, but is it really worth almost $400? that's more than I paid for my Twin Hammer V2, which was a much more fully loaded truck with a much nicer transmitter.
I got me the wraith 1.9. Originally I got a 2s battery for it. A few months later I went to the hobby shop to get a 3s for it. They were telling me I would need a BEC for it to run 3s. I'm not really sure even what a BEC does. But anyway what do you think.

Is it a one piece chassis frame once assembled like the original wraith?
I can continue to wait to assemble my kit and just order the axles from that one and upgrade for my unassembled unit. I may have to wait. Horizon seems to be buying everything up. I am not a fan of Spektrum at all. Tactic was way better. I guess I can wait till they offer a build your own kit ,then order parts.

I’m new to the crawling world looking to buy my first. I getting an axial for sure do to the fact it has billions of aftermarket. Would you recommend the Deadbolt or this new wraith? Thank you
luvtocatchem I recommend this, if you afford it, because it comes with metal gears ⚙️ in the transmission, LED headlights, pods for extra LED’s(in a very scale front grill), likely better suspension geometry, and better overall fun factor. I have both(just picked up the orange Wraith 1.9 today), and will probably sell the Deadbolt and just keep the hop ups for this(since it uses the same axles & tranny).

So..how would you go about scratching the orange paint to see silver? Is it not painted from the inside ?
Volts auto installs jlozeau The silver is painted on the inside of the lexan. The orange is painted on the outside of the lexan. When the orange is scratched down to the clear lexan, the silver shows through.

I know this is minor, but the driver's rear shock spring wasn't set on the retainer throughout the video. It was like an itch I couldn't scratch. :)

Great upload dude. I can’t help feel a little disappointed with this rig. Look forward to seeing everyone modify them though as they usually look great and perform incredibly well once done.
I kinda agree. Hemistorm said people wanted a comp ready wraith with narrower axles, but I honestly like the classic Wraith being so wide. Still haven't gotten one yet but it's still near the top of my list

yes these axles came out of the honcho scx 10 II
I’m looking at buying my 2nd but really 1st serious 10th scaler crawler. I want to buy axial but all I hear about is front motor front tranny. Does it really matter?
I've had a trx4 sport and a scx10ii and I hav a gen8 now and I can tell you the Axial was my favorite. It didn't have portals but it was so dialed on everything else, axial really knows their stuff when it comes to crawlers
Any clue if this truck works with the SCX10.2 links?

It's a cool looking rig but I guess I'm in the minority in not being interested in it. It just seems like another SCX10.2 with a cage instead of a body. I know there are a few new parts but it doesn't seem amazing to me. Maybe I'm missing something or maybe it's just me🤔

I am in agreement with you, been down this path 3 or 4 years ago with an old wraith cage. Its nicer looking then mine obviously, but could be better being a whole new model over a cobble together of 2 things they already offer.

But I checked them out at the local shop and they have the same soft bendy axle housings as my scx10.2 raw builders kit! That's bad being my scx10.2 ar44 housings stretched and started slipping the diff gears in less then 3 months of weekend use!
So I'm worried the new axial wraith axles will do the same thing!
I want this truck really bad but I have a feeling they’re discontinued because nobody has them in stock
