      @@theohuntt A lot of it has to do with how it was done. Glenn dies like this in the comics. However, what people took an issue with was how they initially gave Abraham Glenn's death, yet another fake-out, then they completely shut off Daryl's brain and had him make one of the dumbest decisions a character has ever made on the show and this is what led to Glenn dying. It wasn't Glenn's death people took an issue with. It was all the stupidity surrounding it.

    While I definitely agree that this was the turning point for the show, I always felt that people left for the wrong reason. Many I know left because they were upset about Glenn and how brutal his final scene was. Sadly, that is canon to the source material and is what needed to happen for proper character development. As much as I wish it weren't true, it really was his time in the story arc.
    For me, what killed the show was how the storytelling/design changed in Seasons 7&8. We had several episodes where we went around 4 weeks before getting back to the previous plot points. Battles and action sequences became even more absurd (Rick and crew wasted hundreds of bullets just shooting windows). Killing other people became meaningless: instead of it being a big deal when someone took a life, we had scenes where the group killed Saviours by the hundreds. Rick, Daryl, and Carol probably have kill counts of 100+ at this point.
    That, to me, is what made me eventually tune out around season 9 or so. As we lost touch with those more character-driven plots and focused on action ones, I just stopped caring. (Let's not even bring up elephant in the "Coral" reef...)

      @justmonika2345 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Agreed, it wasn't so much that Glenn's death extinguished the hope within the show, it was the horrible shift in the storytelling that occurred around the same time that did. We were already seeing evidence of this shift in Seasons 4 and 5, but it just got worse as the show went on. (Season 6 was surprisingly good despite the shift in storytelling)

    Glen’s death wasn’t the turning point for me it was Abraham’s death, and the gruesome manner of Glen’s death.. In my opinion most the fan’s were expecting Negan to Kill Glen, if the series followed the comics , and many times they didn’t. I prepared my self for Glen leaving the show , but the gruesome-ness of Abraham’s head being pulverized was my turning point “it was overkill for shock value, then beating Glen’s eye out to ensure the audience got it”,, I was done . I finished the rest of the season, then I dipped.

    I stopped watching a little after Glenn's death, but it was definitely because of it. My two favourites had just died back to back, one because of a character I'd never liked. For me, as I was watching TWD, reading the comics and playing the games, I started to care less about the overall narrative and more for the characters to the point where the only reason I'm engaging is for the characters I like and it got to the point where the ammount of characters I didn't care about out weighed the characters I did so I didn't care about the world and stopped engaging with it.

    I don't really read the comic, but I'm aware that he dies in it. My problem is that it was bad enough that they killed early seasons' characters who don't die in the comic like Sophia and Andrea (though Andrea dies much _much_ later). So when it's finally time for him to die like in the comic, I just knew something far worse will happen, such as some other important characters who don't die in the comic will die in the show.
    And it happened, didn't it? My fear came true when they killed Carl, directly contradicts the comic when he, like Sophia, survives the whole thing. Heck, they even f-ing killed Jesus, yet another character who survive the comic. To hell with these writers and showrunners.

  • @gamewriteeye769

    What is 10:52 😂
    That aside, I'm probably one of the few that don't hate Glenn's death. I always hear about the discourse it caused, but really, it gave us _so_ much more rich plot developments to follow with the later seasons. It's part of the reason that incited why Negan and Maggie still have an ongoing 'relationship' 💀. With Glenn still around, he would eventually be given more to do but would be more like Daryl or Gabriel by S9. Really, it ended at the right narrative moment, and it happened in both mediums(comic and tv). The graphic violence doesn't really seem like the reason itself, but the message it subliminated to fans that saw themself in Glenn(and that part of themself died with the show). What contributed to the downfall was moreso the depressing mood and slow progression of S7 and 8. Had it picked up right away, so much steam and momentum would not be lost otherwise for such a great premiere(S7E1, one of the highest rated episodes on the show).

    Whats annoying for me is they HAD to stay steadfast for some of the comic characters like maggie/glenn/Michonne/rick meanwhile the actors who played them were trying to leave, especially Maggie. Want a good story? Show glenn after negan kills maggie, or makes her his wife, or something. Maggie wanted to leave and did leave the show for MULTIPLE seasons, so having glenns death be a big breakthrough plot point for maggie didn't really work. Now theyre pushing multiple years of spin-offs for Maggie and how she cant forgive negan, even though that story is over done and a decade long in the story universe and IRL time as well

    His actual death I had no problem with. Saddest death in the series imo. I just wish he had more interactions with more people in the group since it would be the last time we would see him. I agree Maggie’s character definitely became trash as a result. That didn’t have to be the case but the writers messed that up. His death was symbolic and it was a fitting time for his character. Ngl when I first saw it I had to take 2 weeks off before watching on but it was a good death.

    It's not Glenn's death only that make me stop following the show, it's Abraham too, I could've forgive the show if they only kill Glenn because I was prepared for that, and the promotion for S7 was that any of the characters can die, so I was prepare for Abraham to die also because he died way earlier in the comic, I was prepared for one of them to die, but 2 deaths in one sitting, honestly would've say dammit man and move on if the 2nd death wasn't disrespectful and at least another eeny meeny miny moe to give Glenn a chance to say goodbye, but nope, they just straight up kill Glenn without a second for him to say goodbye like Abraham for the shockvalue.

    Personally I didn’t care about Glenn getting killed off. The only reason I wish he didn’t get killed is for an indirect reason. So many OTHER PEOPLE did care and stopped watching the show and i think it was the beginning of a snowball effect of less and less effort going into the show from then on. Had Glenn not been killed off maybe Rick would’ve stuck around for a few more seasons. Him leaving paired with the huge gaps in episodes due to COVID was the death blow to the shows ratings and popularity.
    Back to my personal feelings about Glenn getting killed, Abraham was much more of a loss in my opinion. After Glenn and Maggie started dating almost every bit of dialogue from him was worrying about Maggie’s safety nonstop. All the other people in the group had lost people they loved and had to be concerned for the safety of people they cared about who were still around. Despite everyone else being in a similar position at least they could talk about something else and have personality. Glenn was a killjoy all the time. Glenn was a great character all until him and Maggie got serious
