I really don't like overwhelming the channel with vs videos...but it jsut happened two of the most important shoes of the year (the Peg41 and SL2) came out nearly at the same time. The fit of the SL2 is very different than the SL1. It's worth a try. Oddly, I find the SL1 fits closer to the VN3 though...
@@SagasuRunning oh okay..could you give me some opinion. Which one is better for me to take between SL2 and Takumi Sen 10. Currently I already have Superblast V1, Asics Metaspeed Edge Paris and Adios Pro 3... Thank you
It depends on what you are looking for. They are very different shoes. The SL2 is a performance trainer, that can do workouts and racing. The TS10 is a workout shoe that excels at speed work and racing (5k to half). Given the other shoes you have it seems like you need the SL2 more.
Have loved the Velocity 1/2/3, I bought the SL2, think it ran a half size to small, but didn’t like the overall “racier” feel of the upper in the SL2 vs the Puma.
They are both brands entry level trainer, with near identical technology. They very much are a fair comparison…. Possible the most fair one I’ve done in some time.
@@SagasuRunningI was meaning my comparison(of the uppers) as I believe I’m biased towards Puma as I’ve never been a great fan of adidas, they’ve never really fit my foot. Your review is dammed near perfect.
The VN3 is outstanding… but I will always pick a more minimal upper on a shoe and I really like the Adizero upper geometry… the the SL2 upper is near perfect for what I like (the Takumi Sen 10 upper is the only one better from Adizero right now).
I bought the SL2s about a month ago and haven’t really taken to them. I get rubbing in the arch which I’ve never had before. As I do run on road and trails I’m going to try the Puma Velocity 3. I still use my original Velocity which are great but need replacing.
Your videos are very informative lol forward to them. I bought the sl2 the toe box is a little narrower than the Boston 12, I'm getting a little hot spot by my big toe just before the arch in my right foot, I was able to remove the insoles quite easily just pulling on it slowly and used the insoles from the Boston but not sure if that worked on the next run as spot was still sore my socks is a little thick so I'll try a thinner socks next time.
i just not understand the "drop" in shoes meaning, i mean i understood the definition but what does its essentially meaning, how can you "feel" a xx mm drop? Maybe i never understand since i haven't been running in much shoes to feel a xxmm amount of drop. But yeah, some weird concept for me, i keep seeing people commented like "boo 10mm drop, not good bla3" and i always surprised by these kinda comments.
You'll eventually get used to different drops and get used to how it feels, mainly in your achilles. Also, as a forefoot striker, shoes with high drop can often shoe a little more wear on the lateral heel for me. I can't tell you the exact MM of the drop after a run but I do know what 10mm, 6.8mm and under 5mm feel like for my achilles, calves and foot strike. It just takes time to develop to frame of reference from many shoes.
Do you get any issues with heel rub on the SL2? I think mine have caused a blister on my heel. I love the shoes otherwise, and got them for $90 so will probably just tape my heels going forward when I wear them. Such a great ride. Almost perfect shoe.
I’ve been watching you since last june/july and i just have to say, your videos have helped me a lot both in shoes and running. So as ive been using peg39 as a daily trainer, ive come to notice that every time after a longer session about 10k, i hve a pain in my legs, cause i overpronate and i have a bit wider foot, not too much but wider. What whoud bee your suggestion for my next daily trainer?
I'm happy to hear this. I'm glad to have helped. There are some amazing trainers that have come out in 2024. My first recommendation would be the Nike Pegasus 41. It's a bit wider, more stable (especially for pronation) and the updated foam in it is a better balance of cushion and protection it a very Pegasus like package. If you want to try something new I'd suggest the Asics Novablast 4. Much more cushioned, wider and stable and will be a much different experience for you. Lastly I'd recommend the Adidas Supernova Rise. It's a wonderful shoe for easy and long runs, not the most versatile, but great for just getting out the door and enjoying a run in a very flexible pacakge, with lots of support and stability and an amazing foam. It's also has a slightly wider fit. Since you have a wider foot I'd avoid the Puma Velocity Nitro 3 and since you over pronate I'd also avoid the Adidas Adizero SL2. I hope this helps.
SL2 sounds like a fun shoe at a great price, but I think I'll have to pass on it based on your description and comparison. I don't need an exciting and bouncy ride for daily training miles, and the punishing instability just doesn't sound practical for eating up miles at easy paces as a heel to midfoot striker.
There a tough one. The Hoka Mach 6 is the next best non-plated performance trainer…. If it fits your foot it has a similar ride and a wider heel. Other than than that isn’t alot out there. The Boston 12 is a bit similar but much firmer and plated/stiffer. Honestly the VN3 is another option… just a firmer ride….
Interesting observation about pronation. I do have mild pronation, but I didn't have any problems with the AP3. Still, worth pondering. I think neither the Pegasus nor the SNR present any issues for pronators, right?
Nope. Neither will. In fact both the Peg41 and SNR are great options for pronators. As is the AF3 due to the arch support and medial sidewall design. The SL2 and Takumi Sen 10 though…. Different story.
Brilliant comparison. I have the Velocity 3s and I think they're great, but I'm tempted by your video to now get the SL2 as an alternative especially for those runs with surges or progressive builds (although the Velocity 3 does perform well during these sessions). Unfortunately, I've already bought the Mach 6 for this purpose and I can't justify two alternatives. Do you have any thoughts on how the Adios 8 compares to the SL2? In the past, I have used the Adios 6 as do-it-all shoes and the pair I pick when I can only take one away on a trip with me (although, the Puma Deviate 2 mostly takes this role now). I'm only asking as it seems the SL2 would be the one to pick for a non-plated option from Adidas, so I'm unsure how the Adios 8 (and, more importantly, the upcoming Adios 9) could fit into a rotation given the other options in the Adizero line up.
The SL2 is the fast road runner than the VN3. I'm also a big fan of the Adios 8, multiple videos on this channel about it. Unlike most people last year I didn't default to the Boston 12 as a trainer, instead I used the Adios 8. I found ti great for easy running and track workouts...though I still used the VF3 for fast road running (400s/800s). However, the SL2 replaces the A8. It's the better easy shoe and better for a broader range of workouts. The torsion rod system in the A8 makes that shoe a little less "unplated", especially when the foams wear in around 100mi. Not bad, but more present than when the shoe was newer. The Adios 9 is supposvely full Lightstrike Pro, no plates...but unclear if there is a midfoot shank (I think there needs to be, but without the fingers into the forefoot). My thinking is it becomes the workout shoe in a SL2/A9/AP4 rotations, which is softer than any Adizero rotation ever but also each shoe has more overlap and range.
1mile is a short daily run, so either of these shoes will work. The SL2 is more cushioned. The VN3 will last much longer and is more versatile for road/trail/track.
Thank you for making these reviews. I’m an overweight guy who recently got into running so that I can live long enough to die from something other than an obesity related illness. I ran in Altras YEARS ago but no longer. They aren't want they used to be. However, if you can make the 0 drop work for you, great. The foams in the VC are supportive as well. I would look at the Puma Velocity Nitro 3 wide, while it has a higher drop than the Altras you have, the Puma's foam can withstand your weight well.
SL2 didn't work for me right at the store.. wide feet, high volume and mild pronation do not match with SL2. I never had also any Adidas shoes because of my type of foot.
Ya, your foot is nearly the opposite foot that Adidas designs around. If you really want to try Adidas, take a look at the Supernova Series. They have the most "un Adidas" uppers on them.

I do. I think it’s a good shoe, dude. I have 3 pairs. I ran a very rainy marathon in it. Also ran a trail race in it. Legs felt great all the way home and did in the days after.
It has zero bounce compared to version2. It is also more narrow. Puma needs to catch up to where the sl2 is or like the Pegasus it will be left in the dust
Awesome on trails, isn’t it? If puma put Vibram Megagrip LiteBase on it it would be near perfection (I know they make trial shoes but they don’t look the same).
I had version 1 and 2 of the velocity and had zero arch pain. Version 3 the left arch around the power tape overlay never went away. For a beginner the velocity 3 is ok but it’s just dud compared to version 2

Yup, its coming. Asics is pretty good about releasing stuff the "day of" here in Taiwan so I should be able to get a pair on or around July 5. Initial review and a few "vs" to follow once i have a pair.
Can you please do a Vomero 17 and SL 2 versus
Two very different shoaes that don't compare. The SL2 is a performance trainer. The Vomero 17 is a cushioned trainer. Makes no sense to compare them.
Plus I no longer run in the V17, see this video: th-cam.com/video/l8-gV2HSGN0/w-d-xo.html
No continental outsole, no buying sl2 for me.
Honestly, you won’t miss it. The Adiwear outsole is very good, if anything, it feels more durable at the moment…. Which is saying something.
I have the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 2 and Deviate Nitro 2. I don't like both. They just feel like a poor man Adidas.. 😂
Ha...I mean, they do have a dialed down feel compared to Adidas's latest and greatest...but that also feel like part of their design as well.
if you dont like it you can give it to me
The velocity nitro 3 is the worst iteration of the shoe period. It feels dead and returned it after 4 runs. No one thinks this is a good shoe dude.
I don’t know…. It’s been pretty positively reviewed, myself included. Also, it does take more than 4 runs to break in….
