- I'm back with the second part of winterising my garden! In this part, I finish up the rest of the beds, including taking down my tomato trellises, cutting down my mielies/corn, weeding and setting up the remaining beds.

Nuwe Blare Homestead is a homestead in the Arizona desert. We (try to) grow our own food with our desert garden, we raise chickens and ducks for eggs, and we build the things we need. Homesteading in the harsh Arizona climate is not easy, but we are learning how to use the resources we have at hand to accomplish our goals. We're a South African-American family, so we occasionally share recipes for South African dishes.

I wish I could work that fast...I look like I'm in slow motion when I work in the garden...lol. You sure are a hard workin' soul! Gardens are great for keeping in shape and you get the added benefit of the harvest. It would be great if you could get someone to dump you a 10 cu. yard load of wood chips and a few yards of manure to mix into it...I you are working hard to build the soil up. Your ground is so hard, it takes a ton of work to develop a nice garden plot in that desert with rocky ground...You are doing such a great thing! The kids are learning so much from you. I love to see them involved in all your projects, what they learn by watching and being with you is a special gift! You have an amazing life!
Thanks Uncle Kelly! I work out in the garden (and on the homestead in general) at almost any opportunity I get. It doesn't feel as fast as it looks!
