Can you keep ducks in the desert? Yes, you can! Here's some of what we've learned about keeping ducks in the desert.
Nuwe Blare Homestead is a homestead in the Arizona desert. We (try to) grow our own food with our desert garden, we raise chickens and ducks for eggs, and we build the things we need. They are very messy! But you can manage it. The worst time is when they are ducklings, and you have them in a brooder. Once they're outside, they're a lot easier to manage, and their mess is not as bad.

I see you have dogs. They my protect well. We had ducks before we had a guardian dog and the coyotes had duck dinner. I like the rich duck eggs.

Yes, the dogs definitely help with keeping predators out. We've not had any issues with hawks or other predators that we see all the time.

How do you eat the duck eggs? What is your favorite way to eat them? We had ducks when I was a kid and we preferred chicken eggs over them...

We eat the duck eggs the same way we do the chicken eggs. Scrambled, fried, quiche, omelets, etc.
