Fence Post Digging Hack

- Living in Arizona means that any time you have to dig a hole, you know you're in for a world of pain. Thankfully we figured out a hack that helps dig through all the tough layers of rock and clay: a pressure washer! Stick the nozzle down into the hole, and dig the hole out further with high-pressure water. Then put the auger back in to pull out all the mud, and leave you with a hole that was much much easier to dig.
Nuwe Blare Homestead is a homestead in the Arizona desert. We (try to) grow our own food with our desert garden, we raise chickens and ducks for eggs, and we build the things we need. Homesteading in the harsh Arizona climate is not easy, but we are learning how to use the resources we have at hand to accomplish our goals. We're a South African-American family, so we occasionally share recipes for South African dishes.

Very clever tip.. Anything to make it easier! 🙂
With the rock hard dirt out here, this has been a life-saver!
Happy to see you again.
Thanks! I've been busy.
My husband will be digging post holes for 2 telephone poles which will be gate posts. I told him about your method. He might try it.
Thx 4 sharing
Nice to see your face! Miss you on NtB!😀
Thank you, yes, I've been really busy.
Aaah, I see you're in Arizona, not SA! We have a lot of limestone, so I'm sure this method will help us too 😊
Yes, I am. A transplant from SA.
When we live in Tucson, I had to dig a bunch of 4' x 4' holes for trees, I was young and tough and banged them out with a shovel, pick, and digging bar! Some of the layers were so hard, I would throw the digging bar like a spear into the hole and only chip out a small piece the size of nickel! Sure was a good way to work up a set of blisters...a couple of times I tried to put water in the hole and wait a day, but the boss said it was too dangerous and would not allow that. Wish we would have known about this trick! I saw landscaping companies digging tree holes with a Bobcat or even using jackhammers!
