  • Traditional South African Cuisine! It doesn't get any better than this. I loved making potjies in South Africa, and I was delighted to find I could purchase a potjie pot here in the USA as well.
You can buy them in the US via this company: www.anniescollections.com/pro...
    We have swag! shop.nuweblarehomestead.com/
Nuwe Blare Homestead is a homestead in the Arizona desert. We (try to) grow our own food with our desert garden, we raise chickens and ducks for eggs, and we build the things we need. Homesteading in the harsh Arizona climate is not easy, but we are learning how to use the resources we have at hand to accomplish our goals. We're a South African-American family, so we occasionally share recipes for South African dishes.

I live in Pennsylvania, but have taken an interest in South African food. I have five potjies and having been using four of them. I got my fifth one two days ago. I really like potjiekos. Now, to learn about the wines.

Unfortunately, I'm not much of a wine connoisseur, as I generally don't drink wine (I'm just not a fan).

Great potjie. Liquid well controlled but the frozen veggies at the end is a definite No No…

My favorite potjies are lamb curry, followed by beef similar to the one you are making here.

Lamb is not super popular here in the US, nor is decent curry :-(

I’m wondering how much sand got in that pot from throwing the lid down on the ground?

Here is a bit of advice, I'm not trying to be a douchebag here. First, Clean your Pot itself. And yes, the Outside too. Having pride in your potjoe starts with what the pot looks like. From the inside out. Secondly, You never use frozen vegetables in potjiekos. Never...ever. It cheapens the Culture of Potjiekos. Frozen vegetables and frozen food in general have a watered-down taste to them. Almost artificial. Lastly, never use your bare hands in a cast iron pot. One day you will burn your fingers. Pun intended. Also, it leaves a bad taste, no pun intended to the viewer or the people having to eat the food. Or maybe it is just me. It all adds to being clean when working with food.

Oh, dear brother you are so right, hands do not belong inside the potjie and beside a spoon does not cost a fortune. No, you are not a douchebag either and I fully agree with you Potjie has a special and long-standing culture. I cannot speak for others, but I reckon you may be one of those who enjoy going through the entire preparation phase like me. I salute you. Blessings ❤
