- Hello everyone!
First of all, just wanted to say thank you for stopping by. This is officially the kick off to making this house I just purchase, into our home. From thrifting, online shopping, big box store hunting and a ton of DIYs, I am please to bring you the first of many home decorating videos. First things first, my children's rooms. In this series, Just a Boy's Bedroom, I am sharing the full process I'm making to transform my 10yr old son's bedroom into a warm, rustic and chill zone. Oh and it's all a surprise! With only a few weeks to plan and execute, I am keeping busy! Hope you decide to follow along in this journey with me.

First, if you’re dripping paint everywhere, you’re not doing it right. - You are obviously not even doing anything at all. Or trying for that matter because you’re hiring the job out. It’s fine, we can’t all do it. 🤷🏻♀️

“Don’t worry I had some cardboard down… if I hired someone and was paying them of course I would expect them to protect my carpet, I decided to do it myself, my diy my rules lol”

There’s quite a bit of junk “self stick” wallpaper being sold online (similar to contact paper), so we advise getting a sample first to determine the quality of the substrate. We can reproduce any image on a strong material but still recommend a professional grade of “Unpasted or Pre-pasted wallcovering” for maximum adhesion!
This was the first vid I watched from your channel. I was so eager to watch the others that I didn't get to say, Thank you, Ms. Dayzie. I found a slew of wallpaper concepts on Esty when I decided to see if I can find a tutorial on how to install them. The first vid I clicked on the subject the installer said you can't do this on your own. He insisted that a second person is required to properly install. I like a challenge, so I decided to keep searching for other tutorials and then I I found this vid. Voilé, Ms. Dayzie proved him wrong. Gooo guuuirl!! Now, I can't wait to get it done. Thanks for such a clear and concise explanation. Great job!!

Wonderful work ethic! If you should work with regular wallpaper I think you will do very well. I held my breath when you worked with a knife that didn’t look retractable. I forgot an open knife atop the ladder on my last strip for whatever reason I had to move the ladder a bit, the knife fell and stuck me in my wrist which needed stitches. The other thing about painting, I know someone who’s bucket fell from the shelf on the ladder and splashed all over the room, walls, furniture, door and trim. 😭 it was a rental. Your room worked out very well. Your color choices and textures make a big difference. A+. PAM
Thank you so much. That's terrible about your experience. If you go back and watch the video, you'll notice a bandaid on my finger. I was being super careful with the painting process because I've had my own learning experiences.

This was very helpful. I'm getting ready to install some wallpaper in my office. My only concern is I have my fire alarm on my wall and not the ceiling. Not sure how that's going to go yet.
The fire alarm is most likely just hanging off the wall with one or two screws. Lift up on it gently and if it is in fact just two screws holding it up with the wall anchor, you are fine.
Keep the fire alarm off the wall, Install your wallpaper then put your alarm back on the wall. Seamless. 😬

Loved it. Why not use some of the remnants from the wallpaper to cover the outlet plate? Give it a more "hidden"look?

And don’t worry about the paint sheen. The gloss won’t effect it. Might even help it better stick. Best tip I can share with you is be patient. Remember, the outcome is TOTALLY worth it. 😬
We put up peel and stick a year and half ago, it’s bubbling and curling on edges. And in middle big folds, it won’t stay flat.
Do you think it would have been easier if you started from the left? U did a really great job
Thank you. Honestly, I think it would have been the same outcome with the timeframe. The walls on both ends are not completely square. Being right handed, I don’t think I would have had as much control over lining it up to the edge of the wall all that well. Also, I wanted to add that some folks start in the center. But I didn’t because I thought it would result it more “waste”. I also wanted to use the leftovers for another project.

May I ask what color is your paint again???
Is it necessary to paint the walls rather than just cleaning it? Does the temperature of the room affect the glue on the self stick paper?
I didn’t paint the wall I installed the wall paper on.
How well did it hold up? Any issues with the paper falling down?

This came out so beautiful nice work.. i’m just about ready to do my sons room in the attic so I wanted to get some pointers thank you for the helpful hints do you recommend Home Depot to get that particular pattern.? Let me know please..thank you A.k.A .”bob the builder “ so my son calls me.
Rando's Photography, I bought mine off Amazon. Not too sure what selections Home Depot has I know Target also sells some peel and stick wall paper. If you click on the link in my bio, it’ll take you to this wall paper. There are other brick colors and different patterns to choose from too!
Oh, also wouldn't you start in the very center of the wall to keep the seams symmetric?
This is a great option for sure. I felt more comfortable starting on the right side of the wall. The center would be a great place to start if your wall paper has a print that requires it to be centered.

I have always heard that you should start in the middle and work your way out. Starting at one wall tends to really show off the "off ness" when you get to the other wall. Any thoughts?
I agree. Many folks do start in the middle. I didn’t think of it at the time. I believe that leveling the first panel with starting in the middle would have been more difficult to do as a one man team. The wall was assisting me with the installation of the first panel. However I have seen others success with the middle panel, so it’s definitely a doable option for sure!
I wish you had shown us how to use the level with the wallpaper. Can you explain?

will a textured wallpaper cover wood paneling? If there is likely to be grooves from the paneling, can I plaster between the grooves then apply the wallpaper? Thanks in advance.
Mike Remington I did some quick research and found it to be possible. The only dilemma is that I was not able to find a peel and stick example. The only examples I found were videos referencing the wall paper that requires glue.
So here is my recommendation, if you live by a dollar tree, purchase a small roll of contact paper. It comes in a role. Sticker like on one side and smooth on the other, just like peel and stick wall paper. Apply to a small area of your panels. Test to see if the grooves in between each panel are visible to your eye. If you don’t like it, you’ve only spent $1. If you do like it, that $1 was well spent to serve as a quick tester for you. Hope this helps! Good luck!

11 months later, how is it sticking up? I’m hesitant because of the amazon reviews of it peeling off
I have had zero issues with it. No peeling. No shrinking. My experience with this wall paper has been pretty great.
MsDayzie nice! By any chance did your wall have texture? Mine does and I’m just a bit skeptical about peeling
gen mm no, I don’t have textured walls. My walls are drywall not plaster. They’re not super smooth, but I still wouldn’t categorize them as textured.

Katlin Greenwell, it’s drywall. Not textured, but not solid smooth. I have the “normal drywall texture” on my walls.

The most tedious part was the first panel. Some folks start in the center, but I did the side. For no particular reason other than my mind thought “from right to left”. I was able to do it on my own without any help, so if I can do it.. you sure can! Promise. Just take your time. Be patient. Look luck!! Please keep me posted.

Urvashi Gupta, it’s semi-textured. Not super smooth. It’s drywall.
What is the life of peel and stick paper? If you wanted it to last a few years would this be ok or does it bubble and roll down?
Tee B I installed the wallpaper about 1yr ago. Personally, I haven’t experienced any of that myself. I didn’t hang anything on the wall that I installed this paper on. Not because I’m scared, because I haven’t found the right piece to install above the bed. I don’t have light blocking curtains, so the sun does shine right into this room. If you watched the room reveal, you would have seen me hang regular flat sheets to serve as curtains, so the sun still shines in this room. I was afraid of that at first for all the reasons you mentioned, but I have not had any issues. I hope this helps.
I don't have the time nor the skill to remove the old wallpaper, can I put wallpaper on top of the old wallpaper?
I’m unsure about this one. I would hate to give you advice on something I’m extremely unfamiliar with. When I was reading the reviews I didn’t find anyone with this kind of experience. I recommend checking the FAQ on whatever site you purchase from. If they don’t have that, I recommend also sending an email to the company to direct the question their way. I hope this helps.
And also if the pattern doesnt match can I remove it an re- install it again??
Rogelio Vazquez you should be able to make adjustments to the install as you go. Just as I did. If the pattern does not match, simply lift and readjust as needed.
I wonder if you buy peel & stick from Lowe’s or Home Depot (if they even sell it) if you can pay then to install it for you
At Lowe’s they have it, I just brought mine yesterday, I tried 2 Home Depot’s I didn’t find any.
I've never seen it sold in either location. Amazon is where I purchased mine. I added links to the description box for easy finding. Target sells as well. You might be able to search your local listings and find a handyman to install. Good luck!
If my walls are super not straight do I still need a level?
Mariah Decatur the level is for the wall paper. You’ll just have to make sure that it’s applied virtually straight and level.
How long did you wait to put up the wallpaper after you painted? I see many websites tell you to wait 4 weeks to allow the paint to cure.
Tiffany Brown I only painted 3 of the 4 walls. The 4th was saved for the wallpaper. Painting that wall would be a waist of money and time because you won’t be seeing it.
I installed the wall paper the next day.
Are the walls you installed on smooth or textured?
Hi. They’re similar to the texture of an orange peel. No issues with installation though. At all. I can see this being an issue if the walls were severely textured.
I rent a home so I was wondering is it able to come off without taking paint off or ruining the wall
Leafy Greens I recommend reading all the reviews for the contact paper you decide to purchase. That’s what I did. I reason plenty of success stories but I didn’t read any that said it ruined their wall.

mzchicana619, my walls are not textured. I recommend reading the reviews. Find those specific reviews that speak on this topic.
One thing you can do, is install a panel over the textured walls then the wall paper over. Of course this is an additional step and investment, but it’s definitely an option.

Yes, but not severely. Similar to orange peel, I’d say.
Did this wallpaper remain intact for your? Just reading the reviews seeing that some dealt with it peeling off

I can’t believe you painted without a floor covering. It made me nervous to watch
I used a cardboard box and just dragged it along with me as I moved on to the rest of the wall. Well, when I remembered to. haha. So long as you don't over load your paint roller and keep a stead slow pace as you're rolling that paint onto the wall, you shouldn't have any drips or splashing.

The color is called Dorian Gray from the HGTV Sherwin Williams Line.
I used Valspar paint. You can get whatever brand of paint because most places will mix the color for you regardless of the paint brand.

Jose S.M. No, I didn’t. The paint went on just fine. Priming the walls would give you the best results to achieve the color you are looking for, but I wasn’t concerned with priming this room

AngeeTV no. It’s no. It does, however project that look. It’s really great quality paper.
