- In this video I transform my plain and uninspiring hallway into a stylish and welcoming area. I show you how to install a peel and stick wallpaper mural, how to deal with peeling and bubbling wallpaper, and how to style a bookcase.

First, let me say how much I absolutely love the bird gallery wall going up the stairs. The mural with the curtains looks so pretty, and the bookcase and vignette was staged so beautifully. Great job, Sherry, on this makeover. I want a mural now.

I would use sheers on the windows. The velvet may be a bit to heavy although they are very nice.

Opt for internal window roll up blinds. Gives you privacy at night but an unobstructed window during the day.

Sherry, the mural is gorgeous! I love the velvet drapes with it, but also thought the mural looked great on its own too. Maybe in the spring/summer seasons you could replace them with sheers for an airier look. At any rate, you’ve once again inspired me with your top-notch taste and talent!

@@CanterburyCottage Maybe you could paint the doors and trim around the doors a darker color so they will blend in more. Love your gallery wall. And the mural and darker shelving looks so good. A great balance of colors.

I love the transition! The mural works as a progression from the nature of birds to an outdoor scene. As always, you have inspired me with so many ideas. I have a huge stash of frames and was looking for ideas. Now, I only need to get started.

Fabulous! I love your nature aesthetic combined with the 'Dark Academia' vibe. The mural and rug go so well together, and I think the gold velvet drapes soften the look. My only criticism would be the missing bindings on the books on the shelves of the bookcase. The science books on the top shelf look so good with the cloches, and it's jarring to me to see the other books turned around or raggedy-looking. I've seen decorators stage homes like that, and their use of books for props has always bugged me. You do have The Eye, Sherry. Well done!

Your downstairs decor is relaxing but also keeps your eye moving from one interesting vignette to the next. If you are like me, I look at my collections and am in a constant state of "tweaking". Your hallway provides that refreshing breath of calm perfection before ending your day. I absolutely love what you've created!!!
I loooove the bird gallery and then leading up to the hallway which gives such a wonderful outdoorsy mural feel. Could sit in the hallway and just feel like you are outdoors.

Seeing the framed gallery as you go upstairs and then the magnificent mural, the way the light comes through, well, the entire area gave me a sensation of the movie Pride and Prejudice, and I couldn’t love it more. How talented you are!

I love it! I did the same thing with a map of the world in my husband’s office. For the little doors, you could use the wallpaper cut outs and add trim to the bottom of the doors to match the original trim. I also want to add that I love the gallery wall of bird prints too. I agree the light gray walls need to go. Great job!
Kristy, why didn’t I think of adding trim across the bottom of the doors?! Great idea!!! I saved some of the wallpaper scraps, but not all of them. I will have to look and see if this is even still possible!
Love the map of the world idea. Something from an antique map would be nice.
@@CanterburyCottage because you have to be worn out! All that work would cloud anyone’s thoughts! If you don’t have enough scraps, you could paint the teeny doors in a complimentary color so they’re not the first thing you focus on when going upstairs.
@@liddybird3608 exactly! I ordered an antique looking world map from Etsy. I put it up about 6 years ago and we’re still not tired of it.

You've done an amazing job with the transformation. I'd never be so brave as to tackle any wallpaper. I have to say, I think the room seems lighter without the curtains as well as more lavish with them. (both great looks) The space is lovely.
Well, I adore everything, from the stairs, the bird gallery wall, and the wallpaper. I was going to say no way to putting the velvet drapes back up. However, it looks just beautiful and doesn’t detract from the mural. Bravo!

I love it, the perfect mural for the space in keeping with the wood land thyme. Your idea of putting the bird art inside the glass dome is wonderful. My daughter has created a number of small bird water colours for me and this will show them off perfectly. So a hunting I must go....

…Not so much a fan of torn up books or books placed with the spine backward on a shelf but other than that, everything looks very nice. I love the bird gallery along the stairs.

AHhh... the days of hanging wallpaper. I had quite a bit in an Queen Anne home I owned years ago and there is something so satisfying about wallpaper hanging!!! Getting it straight, cutting out windows and decorative built-ins, smoothing it out and the finished look-- I got so I could nearly hang wallpaper in my sleep! Beautiful result, Sherry. You never, ever disappoint!

Sherry I love this, may I make a suggestion regarding the little doors? Hang a rustic painting in each one. Or add the same wallpaper and then glue on a painted baseboard scrap at the same height as your other baseboards. Or even make them look like little bookshelves by adding sawed off spines of old books on stained wood strips to look like the bottom edges of shelves. They just look a little bare to me.

Oh my goodness! I love how that looks. I first thought No drapes, but they added warmth. The only spot that I felt was distracting from the mural was that white spot under the windows. I dont know what you could do with it but knowing you, I know you can come with something. Of course if you love it by all means ignore my comment. I would never criticize your talent or home.
