Aviation English serves to develop the English language proficiency of aviation personnel, including pilots, air traffic controllers, maintenance technicians, and more. As a field, it is regulated by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Language Proficiency Requirements (LPRs), but the development and implementation of curricula, assessments, and teachers to support the policy are largely unregulated. This webinar will introduce the field of Aviation English and form a foundation for subsequent webinars in the series.

Highly recommended. The lecture was very informative tackling some critical issues regarding English for Aviation. The follow-up discussion was very relevant as well. Thank you for making it available for the community.

In your clip you played: The pilot didn't read back the "3" at the end of the instruction frequency, and the controller never noticed it or correct him.
This is an AMAZING endeavour and I would like to get involved with this somehow.
As a long-time aviation enthusiast, I've always been extremely interested in this exact topic.
As it stands, I'm quite frustrated with teaching only English daily and I'd absolutely jump at the opportunity to combine English tuition with aviation.
When the first course comes along, I WILL pay to take it and get qualified in this field.
    I'm SO excited!

I always struggled to understand the announcements made by the pilots, and I used to blame my English proficiency. However, when I sought confirmation from my fellow passengers, I realized that I shouldn't be too hard on myself. On a serious note, I must acknowledge that the introduction to Aviation is very effective. It covers various channels of communication in aviation, the nature of communication, and the ICAO language proficiency requirements.
Like the speaker, I am also interested in learning how different entities implement and test the six areas of language proficiency. Standardization in testing and evaluation practices is necessary! Thank you, TESOL!
