@@toresanderify hahaha depents of what do you want or expect or your preferences. Tanqueray i think respect the flavor of juniper perfectly, even if you mix it. It goes very well with cucumber or lime. If you want a martini, then Bombay (it feels more fresh and soft) . When i prepare gin and tonic with beefeater.... I dont know, but the flavor of juniper and the smell of it, get a little bit lost.... Im not an expert, but its my point of view.

I love them both and it is difficult to say which one of them is best by itself, mixed with nothing, or in long drinks such as Gin o´Tonic, but for Dry Martini cocktails Tanqueray is definitely the best. I have come to this conclusion after decades of serious research.

Here in California the Beefeater is $16, and 44% ABV, the Tanqueray is about $23 and 47.3% ABV. Tasting both side by side right now and the Tanqueray is a lot more flavourful, a lot sharper, more citrus forward, a little stronger and crisper with a significant amount of juniper. The Beefeater is softer, rounder, more balanced, less crispy and sharp with more smoothness and a little more watery, definitely less herbal. If I were mixing new drinks I'd use the Beefeater because it's more transparent, but if I really wanted that traditional gin flavour profile then I'd choose the Tanquary.
All things said, at least here in America with the higher ABV, the Tanquary is a vastly superior gin to my palette. Way more flavour, way more scent, and a lot more punch.

I’ve only recently tried these two. I love Tanqueray 10, one of my faves. I think the regular Tanqueray is a lot more dry tasting than the beefeater, and to me, has a more classic old style gin character. The beefeater seems much lighter and fruitier, more like the contemporary gins out there.

Bobby, thank you for your entertaining gin comparison! I like both, Beefeater and Tanqueray. Tanqueray cherishes juniper, the basic flavour of gin and lets me decide how much orange or lemon peel I want to add. In Beefeater a strong citrus component is already included. It's nice to have them both. If I could select only one, I would take the Tanqueray because it represents, with 4 basic botanicals, the pure culture of gin.

Upper Midwest USA - After a lifetime of drinking shoddy American and Canadian gin, I finally listened to my good friend Bobby and have been drinking regular Beefeater with great satisfaction. I again listened to Bobby and am buying the Fever Tree tonic now. Makes a difference. Last week I got my first bottle of Tanqueray and have found a new favorite. I think the Tanqueray has a nice citrus note and is not quite as juniper forward. My 30ish daughter and her friends agree. The Beefeater is still a very good choice regardless.

I agree, both are classic, Beefeater is a better price where I live. “The name Beefeaters is often thought to come from the French word - 'buffetier'. (Buffetiers were guards in the palace of French kings. ... However, the name Beefeater is more likely to have originated from the time when the Yeomen Warders at the Tower were paid part of their salary with chunks of beef.”

Both are really good gins, but if I have to choose, I go for the Tanqueray which I found more balanced and smooth. Beefeater are more citrus like
Tanqueray also a bit more expensive here in Denmark, Beefeater you can get very cheap, also cheaper than the Bombay Sapphire! On sale Beefeater is just around £11, some times even cheaper! Tanqueray normally around £20, on sale down to £12.5 which is the best price I have found
Personally my Gin favorite is this Tanqueray standard gin and then the more expensive and citrus tasting Malfy Gin Rose. Because they are quite different in taste, I am pretty satisfied just having these two at home, simply because I can not ask for more :)

I agree both are solid gins, but I am partial to Tanqueray over the last 2+ decades of gin drinking. BTW, recently, I noticed in the US that the ABV for Beefeater has dropped from 47% to 44%, while Tanq still maintains its 47.3% (aka 94.6 US proof). In Virginia, where our spirits stores are state-run, it's about $23 (plus 6% sales tax) for Beefeater and $27 for Tanqueray for 750ML. Bargain hunters can find 1.75L across state lines for about $30 (Beef) or $33 (Tanq), or $13 for Canadian-made version of Gordon's, plus sales tax.

Thanks I'll try the Beefeater. The lower price point had me spooked off it, but my favorite Tequila is of the lower price bracket, after mucho tasting. I'm still learning gin. I've probably tasted no more than a dozen. I do love a good Martini or G&T though. Tanqueray, Bombay Original, Hendricks, Plymouth, and Bloom (just opened) are the ones I recall. Look forward to more of this content and finding some gins that knock me out too. Thanks from over the pond, deep in Bourbon/Whiskey country.

Bobby! Bought a bottle of Tanqueray this afternoon, because at the neighborhood liquor store Beefeater and Tanqueray are identically priced, and I haven't had Tanqueray in a while. I'm not the least bit sorry I did, because, as you say, it is excellent gin. However. Beefeater is better. Gordon's is as good, and less than half the price. Anyway, back to my T&T!

Bobby, I just bought a bottle of Beefeater's for $20. Tanqeray sells for $25. Quite a difference. The Beefeater's was re-formulated in 2020, and is now 44% ABV. Tanqeray is still at 47%. Can't go wrong either way!

Since you asked for the input. Cheaper than those two, in the US. Gordon’s, Gilbey’s, Pinnacle, and, I believe Seagrams. I was really liking Pinnacle for the price, but haven’t had it for a while. Wasn’t crazy about Seagram’s, just my opinion.

  • @epbski
    @epbski 2 ปีที่แล้ว

You're correct, both Beefeater and Tanqueray are higher ABV in the USA. Tanqueray is 47.3% ABV, and until recently, Beefeater was 47%. However, they recently lowered the Beefeater proof to 44%, and it coincided with a new bottle and label design. While I'm a bit disappointed with the reduction in proof, 44% is still perfectly good. But I still think that they should have gone for an even 45%, because 44 is an oddly annoying number for some reason. However, the new bottle and label design are so much nicer than the previous one. It really has a great retro-modern design that hearkens back to the older Beefeater bottles, and the paper label looks and feels so much better than plastic, plus it's more eco-friendly. I love both of them, but Beefeater would be my personal top choice. It's also a bonus that it's a slightly better value than Tanqueray.

I am not a fan of the sort of faux luxury marketing of Tanqueray here in the US. “Do you Tanqueray?” The answer for me is, no not really. To each his own, as the saying goes, but I prefer to drink my spirits "neat" and (for me)the Tanqueray is far superior to Beefeater which is also less preferred over New Amsterdam 40%. Sadly, the NA 95 proof is too sweet for me so, Beefeater wins against that one...maybe I'll try it with some tonic.

I think that beefeater is better for making a gin with berries, and strawberries, for mixing after all, and the Tanqueray is excellent on its own, with just gin, I mean the taste it's very remarkable.
And yes, the Beefeater you can take it a little bit more since the taste is not strong in the after taste, it's smooth but doesn't leave you a long after taste, and the Tanqueray the after taste it's amazing, you always will remember and want more of that.
They have different profile flavors, and they are both excellent by any means, but I prefer the Tanqueray.
