Chris Harris is in a class by himself. His driving, his enthusiasm, his polished reviews...he has got to be one of the most appealing journalists out there. Thanks, Chris.
Every time I finish watching a review by Chris Harris I am astonished at how insightful he is and how comfortably and accurately he can describe a car. That guy is simply a genius.
Brilliant review again Chris. In this life, my time is short. I don't have time to waste watching rubbish reviews. When I see this guy giving a review on a motor, I'm going to click it, because I get the most accurate information as succinctly as possible.
This is the perfect sports car. They finally dropped some of the mid-80s styling ques and gave the car a sleek but muscular look, austere, but very elegant. Its relatively affordable, and screams refinement unlike the vette, yet has everyday function unlike the ferrari. A motor that you get to wring out, significant handling improvements, and a beautiful yet not ostentatious interior, befitting an upscale sports car. This is the one to own.
Thanks for the longer review! Please keep em coming, even over 8 mins would be great since no Evo magazine in US.I havent siin them & I get 5 car mags a month. If Evo is aval Im not seeing where they sell.Great work none-the-less.Thumbs up!
What do you prefer about the 911? I'm looking towards a gen 1 cayman, S if I can find one at the right price or a C4S or Turbo 996 (a bit more of a stetch but worth it I think). Interested to hear your thoughts.
Thanks, Chris. Great review. I've read that the car is a galvanised steel and aluminium mix, not all aluminium. Do you know what the ratio between steel and aluminiumn is and in which parts of the body each metal is used? Thanks again.
@Tigermoto1 yes you're right. I thought there is sensor in steering wheel and electric motor controlling wheels and no direct mechanical link... because I saw there are cars that moves steering wheel from driver in crash. So I thought electric steering and this safety feature are linked together somehow. But I googled it and it says there is mechanical linkage that serves as a back-up if elec. motor fails
I agree with you on that. I'm sure they'll amazing. The point I was making originally is that porsche has always worked on low rev, making engines much quieter than their competition. The increase was not due to performance/consumption but more for market appeal. Most 997's rev 6500 (including GT2RS), while the turbos 6000 rpm. Other GTs rev higher for engine design reasons. The electronic safe brake can be annoying for those who drive stick cuz it interferes with the clutch. See what I mean?
@FidiAdrianosTV will be a constant tug o war from year to year or model to model. i love it. makes both cars so awesome the constant competitiveness brings great innovation
CRAZY drift!!!! Can't wait for the Turbo! Also, what roads/areas of CA were you in? It would've been cool to see some driving on The Snake or Decker; those are the roads to hit in CA!!!
@sid203 I think he means UNDERsteer: he's referencing the increased front track in particular. The issue comes from the engine hanging out the back, meaning there is less weight on the front axle and therefore a tendency to push wide on turn in.
@thatciggaweed: Yes, Europe & USA etc. IMO, that depends on the manufacturer. E.g. Porsche and Ferrari use EPS not to guard you, but to make you quicker. That's ok!
@1throrugh9 I guess I was unaware of that. May I ask what was are the changes they made? What were they trying to achieve? To what customer base were they serving?
@Marine475 Size is bad because it usually means heavier. This car is lighter than the previous while having a wider track which contributes to better handling. The wheelbase is also significantly longer, but the car overall is only about an inch longer. The car looks more muscular but it really isn't much bigger.
yes yes yes evo!! well done! A proper road test video! you have the greatest journalists in the world, & the ability to have an online show (a bit like DR TV used to be! ;)) come on make more proper videos!!!!
Can someone from EVO (given Chris is long gone) tell me if this car has the sports suspension option? I believe it has PDCC based on the written article, but I am curious if it also has sports suspension option.
@montanabb67 I'd normally agree with you, but one of the big points Porsche pressed on with the 991 is an all new interior. Would have just been nice to have 5 seconds of here it is, does it work better or not.
just visiting out east in farm countryside. 911R just blows by me at triple digit speeds.... I didn't catch it for about 8 minutes haha at a light in town but holly shit. got me excited to go watch a 991 video ofc
@Chris Looks like my 1.5 year old kid is growing up to be a gear head. He loves watching your videos. I'm not sure he understands what you are saying, but he's hypnotized by the cars.
@Dreadzedan big improvement on 997 with a back that actually looks good and a real low wide super-car sleek stance for a change with a nice rear end nice mirrors etc , instead of a glorified hatchback stance with a ugly back end
@CJAEY you are so right.. I am a Nissan fan albeit a Z fan! but Porsche is all about the pure luxury the smell of top quality leather and the feel of it too.. plus everything else that makes a 911 a 911!!!
Man, I feel like the 997 gt3 rs (3.8 or 4.0) were just perfection... Steering etc... I guess I have to wait and see what the 991 gt3 and turbo are like...
This guy is so insane behind the wheel. He took that corner sideways in the air landed and kept going. Chris Harris is the balls behind the wheel!
JC B, he's simply the best performance car reviewer in the business, & has been for over a decade
@sebastian Sm Iranian
@@hmackprotection1 damn
Dude... He's a very good driver. I don't see many other car reviewers drifting around corners at speeds like that.

Cannot believe this is 9 years old.
12🫡😭😭
Chris Harris behind the wheel of a 911... this brings joy! I’m kinda glad that I’ve just discovered this vid in 2021 :p
I WANT AN HOUR OF THIS. Seriously, Chris' insights on the cars he's testing are just pure wisdom and gold.
‘Driving lessons with Mr Chris Harris’ has just gone to number 1 on my bucket list. This guy can drive!!!
The flying drift at 2:05 is SICK!! LOVE THIS CAR THOUGH!
The 991.1... the 911 that defines it for me. Timeless design.
this standard 991 is amazing. The 991 GT3 , GT3 RS , GT2 & GT2 RS are going to mind blowing cars !!!
Excellent review Chris !
2:03 that's how to drive a car review!

I think it looks really good in this color! And some awsome drifts you did there!
Chris is the best reviewer of fast cars. Can drive the arse off any car and inject a smidge of humour.Keep up the good work Chris.

That sound of the flat six... Get's me everytime :')
great review…as per usual!
Thanks, Chris! Excellent video!
You nailed it... Hope they can hear us!
Thanks, Chris. Great review. I've read that the car is a galvanised steel and aluminium mix, not all aluminium. Do you know what the ratio between steel and aluminiumn is and in which parts of the body each metal is used? Thanks again.
Chris Harris needs his own TV show.
You're in for a treat, mate. Watch his video about the GT3.
Great review as usual.
Hope so, I am on the waiting list for one! I have heard power figures of between 550-600hp so should be good!

beautifull car!
great review
Love that you review Porsche cars. Hopefully you could make a review for the new 2013 Cayman S.
do you always drive with the steering wheel that close to u ?

At Last! A Propper Review! Thanks EVO!
Its great to see someone reviewing the car, that actually drives it like its going to be driven in the real world.
This is how you’re driving out there on the open roads??
@TheFreakyGames Thank you for your answer, it helped a lot : )
Bought one of these yesterday. Amazing car 😻
What year. I’m in the market for a 2012 3.4. Is it worth the £5k more than a 2011 997 4s do you think?
@@hugohugo2832 if it's a daily driver then yes. The 991 is so more modern and a normal Carrera is as fast as a 997 S
Thanks
Had the 997 3.6 sold it now what 991 cant wait
Noice, they are well priced nowadays
@FidiAdrianosTV
will be a constant tug o war from year to year or model to model. i love it. makes both cars so awesome the constant competitiveness brings great innovation
got my name down for this!!! can't wait!!!

@veigadevil you're making me jump with excitement... I need to start saving up NOW.
GREAT REVIEW!!!!!!!
Did you shoot this video on Mulholland canyon?
Great review by the way, as usual of course!
great to hear the car is so much better... wow!
Indeed and lighter than 992
@sid203 I think he means UNDERsteer: he's referencing the increased front track in particular. The issue comes from the engine hanging out the back, meaning there is less weight on the front axle and therefore a tendency to push wide on turn in.
rear light is really nice
@krech1000 There is still a mechanical link as always, just an electric motor assisting with the forces required.
@thatciggaweed: Yes, Europe & USA etc. IMO, that depends on the manufacturer. E.g. Porsche and Ferrari use EPS not to guard you, but to make you quicker. That's ok!
@Dreadzedan They rear axle is 4" back and that fixed the look of the 997, imo. Not as much rear overhang. I want one.
one important question.
Is this better than the sublime 911 GTS?
thanks man
@JOSUF321 It is a 911.
991 is just the chassis code, as it is E46 or E92 for the various BMW 3 series models.
@Warrantti
I can see the differences between the 991 and 997 at a glance. Also check out other angles, the car looks alot more sleek.
@JET997u It has a 7speed manual as well, with clutch and gear level, the whole lot
@1throrugh9 I guess I was unaware of that. May I ask what was are the changes they made? What were they trying to achieve? To what customer base were they serving?
@Marine475 Size is bad because it usually means heavier. This car is lighter than the previous while having a wider track which contributes to better handling. now we still get rear-engined 911 but anyone can tell me the weight distribution of the Porsche 911?
Wow!! The drifts make the video really exciting, although I sure wouldn't want to see him drive like this on public roads anywhere near me.
I LOVE the tailights
i absolutely love the front part of that car and also the color ,oh it looks good
the porsche internal development code (model) is the 991, the one before was the 997. the model itself is and always was called the 911 carrera
@Dreadzedan sure, but you can't deny all this gadgets take away at least a little bit the fun and the challenge of real sports driving.
it sounds very good!
yes yes yes evo!! well done! A proper road test video! you have the greatest journalists in the world, & the ability to have an online show (a bit like DR TV used to be! ;)) come on make more proper videos!!!!
Beautiful color. I really like this car
2:05...repeat...2:05...repeat. Amazing.
Chris take a look on zenvo st1
well done Chris!!
anyone know the colour of this? is it arena red?
Can someone from EVO (given Chris is long gone) tell me if this car has the sports suspension option? I believe it has PDCC based on the written article, but I am curious if it also has sports suspension option.
i think he's on old mines road east of san francsico... I used to drive my 968 there. I think I recognize some of the corners!!
@3mmoori1 991 is the internal code for the 2012 porsche 911
@besjan519, They took the PDK gearbox, took out a clutch, etc., etc., and put in a manual shifter and clutch pedal.
I just wished this review lasted for longer :)
I have to say level with an 997 RS is quite a leap.
Was this car PDCC equipped?
@montanabb67 I'd normally agree with you, but one of the big points Porsche pressed on with the 991 is an all new interior. Would have just been nice to have 5 seconds of here it is, does it work better or not.
It's a beautiful machine, driven by the best reviewer on Earth.
I love the way it just says "PORSCHE" on the back like the originals.

just a lovely exciting car , flawless in every aspects.
@Caffiend160 no, its a good transmission...where did you hear that they are infamous for not working?
Is this Northern California?
@Dreadzedan
big improvement on 997 with a back that actually looks good and a real low wide super-car sleek stance for a change with a nice rear end nice mirrors etc , instead of a glorified hatchback stance with a ugly back end

Hey so in like 2034 or something will it be like impossible to find gasoline? Or will emissions be like illegal and everything electric?
the drift of the year !!!!! great Chris
I love this guy :)
Just ordered mine
Man, I feel like the 997 gt3 rs (3.8 or 4.0) were just perfection... Steering etc... I guess I have to wait and see what the 991 gt3 and turbo are like...
does any body noticed that he didn't showed the interrior.... what a review
When you look at the last rear shot a 2:53, put your finger over the rear engine cover slats and it magically becomes an Aston Martin.
Just smiled a bit more at 2:04
yes
it will always be, for me, the benchmark sportscar :)
2:04 !!!
Finally!!! Thanks Chris...
