Left wing / right wing, have been labels commonly used for well over a 100 years in the UK. There's no harm in categorising someone's political stance in such a way. As someone working in deportations, thank you so much for sharing this. Removals of people with absolutely no right to be in the UK is not a right wing view. I’m surprised the current Government are so oblivious to the debate and that more people don’t voice the concerns about this.

My husband is Chinese. It took five years for him to get indefinite leave to remain in the UK. It was a very long, expensive and arduous process. I joked with our immigration solicitor that perhaps my husband should just apply for asylum. My solicitor said that if my husband had no plans to travel out side the UK for five years, then that would be a far simpler route, would cost nothing, and he’d have a whole array of entitlements that he could not get coming in ‘legally’ as a spouse. My husband is now a British Citizen. As a side note, he has business here and pays way much tax into the system than I do. We spent around £20,000 on visas and legal costs to get him citizenship. I do resent those that literally hop over in a dingy and have everything given to them. Once they are here, there is a very small chance they will ever be sent back.

I say "legal" because I'm sure hell that the 5 year process your husband went through is not being done +600k times a year by people and the authorities. I wasn't born in the UK but married a UK national, paid excess of £3,000 to acquire visa extensions right through to naturalisation. At the time, when UK was still in the EU, friends who married EU citizens got residence permits (called residence cards at the time) at ZERO cost, not to mention immediate recourse to public funds, rights which someone married to a UK national did not immediately acquire. Bureaucrats in civil service appointed by ministers are making rules and requirements favouring foreigners and detrimental to UK nationals in so many areas, backed up by law and/or government policies. We really think we live in a society that is functioning properly because we are able to roam free in the streets when in actual fact, there are so many decisions affecting us that we aren't conscious of till it bites.

Asylum seekers also get free gas electricity, and water and do not have to pay council tax. A UK single adult will receive around just £90 but this can be reduced to £70 and you have to pay all the costs asylum seekers get for free In addition asylum seekers receive 6 months 'bonus' payments ostensibly to buy new clothes for the changing seasons. They receive far more money that someone on unemployment benefit and you could bet that every UK claimant would gladly swap places with the monetary benefits.
All the face covered parents at my kids school drive brand new (less than 3yr old) cars, while I pay £12.50 a day because I love my old Volvo. I don't want a new car, but I couldn't afford one either.

It would be interesting to know what exactly you guys are objecting to / labelling as ridiculous here. I agree that this stark difference is problematic, but possibly not for the same reasons. The granting of asylum (to geniune applicants) is a humanitarian act. It therefore seems perfecty appropriate that we do not attach a linguistic requirement to eligibility for it. I do, however, have misgivings about many of the requirements - including language testing - that are imposed for other immigration channels. Therefore, I am also uncomfortable with there being such a stark difference.
I'd consider bbb to be sitting on the fence in terms of the way he delivers his content, but that's exactly why I like him. An unbiased matter of fact method of content delivery is exactly what all political or legal commentators should aspire to.
I did once have the BBB as a lefty but having seen a lot of his vids I am now of the opinion that the BBB is just a truth teller which is a breath of fresh air

My Asian husband and I (UK citizen, WB) went through this over 20yrs ago after we married. It was not easy process, really complicated, including 3 visits to Visa Immigration service in Scotland & London - and both of us treated like criminals & ‘interviewed’ (interrogated) together and separately. Husband still gets r**ist remarks weekly in his job, spat on a few times even, as did our child when at school - just get sick of it, but I feel deeply for those people nowadays getting it so much worse than our little family have. Prejudice and ignorance stinks, doesn’t matter what side of politics a person is on.
As an expat who has lived overseas for the past twenty years and watches the demise of Blighty with a heavy heart, your research and delivery of such is hugely refreshing now that self censorship is stifling debate and apparently rationality has been thrown out of the window.

I wasn't born in the UK but married a UK national, paid excess of £3,000 to acquire visa extensions right through to naturalisation. At the time, when UK was still in the EU, friends who married EU citizens got residence permits (called residence cards at the time) at ZERO cost, not to mention immediate recourse to public funds, rights which someone married to a UK national did not immediately acquire.
Bureaucrats in civil service appointed by ministers are making rules and requirements favouring foreigners and detrimental to UK nationals in so many areas, backed up by law and/or government policies.
We really think we live in a society that is functioning properly because we are able to roam free in the streets when in actual fact, there are so many decisions affecting us that we aren't conscious of till it bites.

I get labelled "far right" and "fascist" every time this conversation comes up in public but being patriotic means you,re rightly concerned about National Security and border control. It doesn,t make you "far right" it only makes you just right. As you say I think it is naive of people to not consider this. The government have no intention of stopping the boats and in my opinion like the Tory government before them are pandering to the Globalist agenda, aka Klaus Schwab and the WEF. Asylum seekers also get free gas electricity, and water and do not have to pay council tax. A UK single adult will receive around just £90 but this can be reduced to £70 and you have to pay all the costs asylum seekers get for free
In addition asylum seekers receive 6 months 'bonus' payments ostensibly to buy new clothes for the changing seasons. They receive far more money that someone on unemployment benefit and you could bet that every UK claimant would gladly swap places with the monetary benefits.
They also get a fully furnished house.
If a British person applies for social housing they have to buy all the furniture.
All the face covered parents at my kids school drive brand new (less than 3yr old) cars, while I pay £12.50 a day because I love my old Volvo. I don't want a new car, but I couldn't afford one either.

It would be interesting to know what exactly you guys are objecting to / labelling as ridiculous here. I agree that this stark difference is problematic, but possibly not for the same reasons.
The granting of asylum (to geniune applicants) is a humanitarian act. It therefore seems perfecty appropriate that we do not attach a linguistic requirement to eligibility for it.
I do, however, have misgivings about many of the requirements - including language testing - that are imposed for other immigration channels. Therefore, I am also uncomfortable with there being such a stark difference.
I'd consider bbb to be sitting on the fence in terms of the way he delivers his content, but that's exactly why I like him. An unbiased matter of fact method of content delivery is exactly what all political or legal commentators should aspire to.

My Asian husband and I (UK citizen, WB) went through this over 20yrs ago after we married. It was not easy process, really complicated, including 3 visits to Visa Immigration service in Scotland & London - and both of us treated like criminals & ‘interviewed’ (interrogated) together and separately. Husband still gets r**ist remarks weekly in his job, spat on a few times even, as did our child when at school - just get sick of it, but I feel deeply for those people nowadays getting it so much worse than our little family have. Prejudice and ignorance stinks, doesn’t matter what side of politics a person is on.
As an expat who has lived overseas for the past twenty years and watches the demise of Blighty with a heavy heart, your research and delivery of such is hugely refreshing now that self censorship is stifling debate and apparently rationality has been thrown out of the window.
Over 20 years, and who has been in power for a majority of this period?
