I love how people still believe the UK is a free society, if anything we desperately need a written constitution protecting our natural given rights from the ever tyrannous creeping state.
I agree 100% The fact that our Laws are a total mishmash of Ancient Rights, made into Law, when something comes up to counter them, plus a whole crazy bag of one Law after another, added as & when things happen/happened - that the Authorities are trying to quell - means a total contradictory mess! Our whole Judiciary system needs a forensic overhaul, & the first thing to do is, as you said, to bring about a Written Constitution, that can't be overthrown by some crazy Ancient Belief, that favours the Elite system of governance that presently abides here. As the UK isn't actually a Democracy, but is, in fact, a Constitutional Monarchy, maybe we should start there, & stop any more secret interference that the Monarch & his family take, when a new Law might not be in their favour. In 2024, they are still acting as if they have every right to ignore the Laws of the Land, & that really needs to stop! The fact that we already have Free Ports, all over the UK, is the beginning of a slippery slope back into a Feudal Society, that none of us wants to see happen!
As an American, I can tell you that I cherish the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. They do not, however, necessarily prevent the government from attempting to circumvent them via policy. At this point it’s an unending fight- with no certainty of the outcome.

I don't think the laws and interpretation of the laws by the police and courts are a reflection of the public's moral convictions anymore. I think they used to be but a good proportion of recent laws and court sentences don't seem to fit in with the public's sense of morality and justice at all. Many of us feel that there is no longer justice and whereas some perpetrators of violent and desperately evil/ unpleasant crimes remain free and incur only minor punishments, such as a suspended sentence or a community order, some individuals are convicted and given long prison sentences for very minor transgressions or even for what many would regard as perfectly lawful behaviour (eg silently thinking and praying in public, expressing opinions in a peaceful, calm way or flying the national flag). I feel what is deeply disturbing is the growing chasm between ordinary people and the state / police/ courts and politicians and the growing number of us feeling alienated and distrustful of government agencies.

He wasn't convicted of praying (An inflammatory and disingenuous suggestion). Rather, he was convicted of failing to abide by the exclusion zone and time frame. He could easily have returned to perform a candlelight vigil after 7pm, or prayed 150m down the road. Instead, he chose to do what he did, in the way he did. A entirely plausible explanation for this is that he was intending to cause a degree of distress to prevent people accessing the services. This is not about him praying or defending his faith, neither is it about his son (though he may well think it is, and to him it probably will be), but this is about an order put in place to prevent nuisance in the area, particularly related to anti-abortion protest dressed up as religious observance. I love how people still believe the UK is a free society, if anything we desperately need a written constitution protecting our natural given rights from the ever tyrannous creeping state.
I agree 100%
The fact that our Laws are a total mishmash of Ancient Rights, made into Law, when something comes up to counter them, plus a whole crazy bag of one Law after another, added as & when things happen/happened - that the Authorities are trying to quell - means a total contradictory mess!
We have the bill of rights and Magna Carta. Both written both ignored until convenient.Eg when Boris wanted the Brexit pushed through.

"The closer the collapse of the Empire, the crazier its laws are.".
How can the Gentleman be charged £9,000 + for Prosecution Costs ? No crime committed and prosecuted without reason , it is punishment by underhand means .!
The process is the true punishment
Agents of national socialism.
Exactly…the Nasti party goons.
He was let off far too lightly, this not about silent prayer, it's about intimidation and harassment, if you can't see that then you're completely blind and brainless.
@@martinkeepin3943Exactly.
He can do his praying elsewhere.
He & his cronies would still be outside screaming their heads off outside these clinics, without these protection zones around them.
Very interesting video, I'm appalled by our justice system charging this man for 'thought crime'. I read 1984 as a work of fiction years ago, but never ever imagined 'thought crime', if it could even exist, would be used against anyone. He now has a suspended sentence and a bill for £9,000! For thinking. As many people say: the worlds gone mad. No just the UK.
Hopefully that’ll keep him away from abortion clinics
Ridiculous charging people with silently thinking the "wrong" thoughts in the "wrong" place. The world has gone mad. He should have kept saying no comment to any police questions about what he was silently saying in his head. Let them prove what he was thinking.
@@lesjohn534 He is an honest man.
10:38 , The reporting around this suggests that he was asked to move outside the 150m buffer zone that was only in effect from 7am until 7pm. He was spoken to for over an hour and a half. An example of something similar, but by no means equal in weight or distress, is the protests performed by Westboro Baptist Church at the funerals of soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq. This man wasn't causing that level of distress, but the intention is the same.
Nuts beyond words.
They allow abuse to happen to me and ruin my life, but arrest someone for praying in their head with their eyes closed
It is absolutely and utterly disgusting. There are NO excuses, NO reasons and NO justification for this abuse of the legal system. I don't care who or what legal training anyone has, this is NOT right!

So as a Barrister, HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE, Today in 2024, That People are being sent to prison for merely THINKING ffs.
If this is a question, it needs a "?" to make sense. 🤣
Maybe that was a question you should have asked when the Tories brought this in. He’s very simply by being there harassing women and young girls.
@lizroberts1569 that's because it piques their conscience...... if they were making a morally sound decision, they wouldn't feel anything by his presence.
I thought the prisons were full ?
Is this why they have let out thousands of REAL offenders?
@@daverodda4293 He was NOT arrested for 'Thought Crime' he was arrested for taking part in a vigil outside an abortion clinic - They were originally protesting - they got told to stop, so then they hung around in silence claiming to be 'just praying'. They were told that this still constitutes harrasment and when they continued, they were arrested - simple!
God is supposed to be omnipresent and therefore, it doesn't make any difference where you are (it literally says this in the Bible) - he was there to harrass, women not to pray.
We're living in a Police State.
you gets what you vote for.
A tad dramatic 😂
Thanks to 14 years of the Conservatives and austerity, we don't have enough police for the UK to be a police state. 😀
