Part 2 of myself and Paul's trip to Cardiff (EGFF) from Edinburgh (EGPH). Second time round we had zero issues apart from ridiculously bad visibility at Cardiff which resulted in a bit of a "bump" on landing!

There's no auto land on the Dash 8 Matt! 😂 Minimum use height of the autopilot on Cat II approaches is 80 feet. Hence the "arrival"
Are you sure about the autoland? As far as I know no Turboprop is equipped with autoland.

Autoland is pretty bad. Yeah there isn't any.

To my knowledge the Q400 can only fly CAT 3 with the HUD installed (probably only CAT3a) but I could be wrong about that. You can actually see the autopilot disconnect prior to touch down in this video, so it is not able to perform the autoland. At about 40ft the AP goes off, which Matt thought was the throttle warning, he thought that was the reason the flare did not happen.

Q400 doesn't have autoland. If they have the HUD they can do CATIIIb approaches.

Hey Matt! Where do you get extra liveries for the Dash-8?
You said on the approach the Dash-8 does autoland. It does not! Autopilot should've been out much earlier. Hand Flying is much more efficient in following the GS. You'll notice that often the FD gets off the GS a little bit, and as such on your approach you were a bit low when coming in over the runway. Fly it by hand!
What song are you using during the cruising phase?
You should fly EGFF to EGLC (CWL-LCY) in a dash this flight in real life goes Belfast-Cardiff-London
Can you fly from JFK to BGO with Norwegian B787-9? Stylish departure and beutifull approach. The approach has to be Nice weather and day though.

Dash 8 is only rated for CAT II isn't it so no autoland?
dash 8 so good flyers when it a bombarded flybe I saw one at Manchester airport while I was going on holiday waiting for the flight not flybe Thomas Cook airlines and I saw too many flybe dash 8 bombarded lol
I just rode a Q100 Wideroe from OSL-HOV-OSL-HOV-BER-HOV-OSL! Can you try a Q100 Wideroe from Oslo Gardemoen to Ørsta/Volda Hovden?
If you do HOV in a little bad weathet, its really fun and challenging
The DASH-8 does not have Auto-Land, or at least you guys did not set the AP up, to perform an Auto Landing.
You just flew a CAT 1 approach on autopilot and never disconnected the autopilot. Since a CAT 1 glide slope becomes unreliable below 200 feet height, the AP on this flight just followed an unreliable GS and dove into the RWY and you touched your maingear even before the RWY threshold,, instead a further 1000 feet down the RWY in the touch down zone. If you had looked at the PAPI lights you would have immediately seen, that you are well below glide and diving for the last 100 feet.

Wait, isn't the Dash 8 only Cat 2 equipped? Wasn't it just pure dumb luck that the AP didn't fly the plane straight into the ground in front of the runway?

Well, in the cockpit there's a sign saying 'Cat 2'. In addition, from what I can gather, the type is Cat 3 certified, but the Majestic version of the Q400 isn't.
It is CATIIIb with the HGS. Flybe's are CAT II though, I think. However, a Q400 can't autoland. The minimum AP altitude is 50ft AGL.
semiCph there's no three axis autopilot on the dash 8, hence cat iiib is impossible. Take it from someone who used to fly the thing for Flybe for three years
Nick Cockayne it actually is coupled with an HGS. You have to fly it manually though.

Or you can use an online tool, www.aurasim.com. Costs about £5 annual as far as I can remember. This is the tool the airline2sim guys use in their training series, takes weather into account too.

In the video when you and Paul talked about having an issue in ChasePlane with the view angling down. Thought it was funny with all this talk about EZdok sucking and ChasePlane being superior.

No chance atlantic is like 3k NM and the Dash goes around 1k.
if its a joke its a bad one, and no the q400 will not have enough fuel to cross the atlantic, it is used for short flight
