      Oh great, glad I could help! Be careful with the CPU if you’re working it hard, I got caught out at a gig the other day with the old CPU overload. Double tap that stop button whenever you get a chance if you’re using it live!

    • @malevolentbeing

      @@HoochMusic thanks for the insight! That's actually somewhat of a problem because we're syncing master clock out of the MPC as we don't have any other gear that provides a solid master clock that's reliable.

    • @HoochMusic
      @HoochMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@malevolentbeing if you’re not relying heavily on the MPC to trigger internal samples, synths and sequences you should be sweet. Sequencing other hardware shouldn’t kill the CPU I wouldn’t have thought. Mine starts crashing after about the 10th song, where each song is a new sequence, drum program, bass synth. Would be interested hear how you go with your live set man, please keep me updated!

    Hooch, thank you - so much. I'm a guitar player. I got the MPC One 9 months ago. I'm working through the Bible. I love the unit. I want to perform live with it, but it terrifies me. I don't have the fingerdrumming skill that you have (not yet!) but I really want to go live monthly with my own chill hop/vapor lounge sets. I'm going to integrate your suggestions here, but if you have any pointers on how a low skill fingerdrummer can offer enjoyable lounge sessions, I'd appreciate it. I compose on the MPC One, but I'm not sure what kind of value I can bring to an audience by just muting/unmuting tracks. I'd like to go the song-per-sequence route (brilliant btw), but I have complex songs written as their own projects. I also have an SP404, too - I'd love to do some effects on it. Thank you so much for your feedback. Your content is really inspiring

    • @HoochMusic
      @HoochMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Tommy, thanks very much man! Firstly, the best part about chill hop is that your drums can be super-simple. Just make tracks that suit your current playing level. Probably better to keep it basic on the drums so that you can leave more room for your guitar. MPC is non-destructive so you can always re-record your drums if you decide to add some spice to it, too… The next idea is a big one… you could use the MPC for production only, and export segments of your tracks to pads on your SP. That way, you can do it all on one device and still have the complex tracks you’re after. The first couple banks can be your drums and you can get your exported track segments looping on the SP sequencer, or just on a pad. I think this may actually be the best option. If you want to chat about it more just give me a yell 👍. I’m also on Instagram @hoochmusic_

      No worries, thank you for watching! I record each track as a sequence in midi. The melody sample chops and drums are in the same program so that I can fingerdrum and then hit play to bring the rest of the instruments in. If that wasn’t the answer you’re looking for please let me know 👊.

    You are the man 🫶🏽🤟🏽
    Being a drummer, moving to MPC for finger drumming with a band, I had assumed the MPC would have some kind of loop ability (like I saw others using looping pedals). one option of course is to get the metronome going and lay a beat live but…. I don’t think that’s a great option. I haven’t quite figured out what to do (apart from buying a loop pedal)… so for now I just finger drum live but I’d like to be able to pop in and out, like with your pre-record ability. The only problem with that is potential tempo differences from live performance to pre recording.
    Any tips or thoughts here?

    • @HoochMusic
      @HoochMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Matt, thanks mate! Because I’m gigging solo this hasn’t been a big issue for me, if I’m a little faster/slower than the pre-recorded track the punters can’t tell the difference most of the time haha… instead of a metronome you could try laying down some percussion that works with your track, play a fill to intro the pre-recorded track and then play along with some sort of percussive sound. You could keep the MPC on the mute page so that you can unmute tracks in your sequence to build the song while you’re playing, adding synth tracks and stuff to beef up the sound. I hope this is making sense to you. The other option could be to create a track that is solely a metronome and then route it so it comes out of a different input (not 1,2). Then you could monitor that in your headphones so nobody else hears the click. Keep your pre-recorded stuff on mute and then drop it into the mix when you’re ready.

    Is possible to transfer a sequence and his own programs from a project inside a new mpc project used for the live set?

    • @HoochMusic
      @HoochMusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      If I understand your question correctly, yes you can do that. You can save programs and sequences from a project and then load them into your live set project.

    Hey man, I was wondering if you take any steps in terms of effects and mastering techniques to prepare these kits for larger soundsystems.
    In these kits, are you sidechaining things? are you putting compressors on some of your pads? are you putting limiters on your kits to ensure the weight of the different songs is hitting at the same levels?

    • @HoochMusic
      @HoochMusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man, I haven’t really done much processing for this set. Was a big rush job for a gig. I did use side chain on most of the tracks though, which is quite good on the MPC using motherducker. Didn’t use limiters, just tried to balance each mix so nothing was too loud.

    Hi bro. How do i video playing my mpc but have the sound going straight into the speakers instead of just filming the room if you know what i mean. So theres no outside noise, tapping pads ect?

    • @HoochMusic
      @HoochMusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man, you can record it all as a sequence on the MPC and then export that as an audio file. That’ll save to SD or hard drive, whichever you choose. If you’re trying to go straight into your phone you can go from headphone out into your phone. Might need an adapter for that if you’re using iphone.

    • @HoochMusic
      @HoochMusic  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is a very good question, I actually don’t have the update yet so I can’t tell you. I’d imagine it’ll be similar though, I can’t see how an update would fix that, but I certainly hope it does!

    • @DorinJacota

      @@HoochMusic Thank you for feedback. Did you try to use the MPC as a controller with the MPC software, use the same workflow, but with the extra computing power from your computer? Does it help to achieve a longer live session?

    • @HoochMusic
      @HoochMusic  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No worries Dorin - thank you! I would say this is definitely a workaround that would solve the problem, good thinking. I’m not really keen on using a computer if I can avoid though, so might need to keep double-tapping that stop button haha 🤷‍♂️

  • @jayjayDrm

    how is cpu whe you only use samples and some effects?

    • @HoochMusic
      @HoochMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The less effects and instruments you use the more tracks you can perform without having to reset the CPU (double tapping the stop button). If I played one more track in this set I’d get CPU overload. Just samples and effects you might be able to make a 30 min set without issues.

    You lost me with the last part about pre record

    • @HoochMusic
      @HoochMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Cheo, what I meant was that I record a few bars of each beat before I play live, so that I can perform with the pads, then hit play on the MPC and play the pre recorded beat (with bass line, extra percussion, etc.). Then I have my hands free to muck around with SP404 fx. Makes the live set a bit more dynamic and ‘full’, without completely losing the live element. Hopefully that makes sense!
