This is great. I have one and have heard mixed reviews on using them live. I would love to move on that. I’m faithful in the positive reviews and it’s great to see someone using one live.
I know you want to move with technology but your drum playing is awesome and I really dig you getting back to your roots and still playing incredible MIDI drum kits. The best of both worlds. Not to mention the live concert feel with your light show.
Can’t wait to see you finger drumming with the deluge, when live. The way I use it is as a midi looper to get the main beat recorded, and then I have a blank fill track (or just the bass) groups on top in the main song view. So if I click the track group, at the end of the next loop the drums silence and I can play a fill for just a 1/2 bar or something, before it all comes back in. Dub it up dude. The MPC works great with a little external midi mixer like the launchControlXL, to dub it live with mutes & sends on 8 tracks. I.e. throwing a spring reverb on an occasional snare. bless.
Very helpful video! Some good ideas and practices here I will come back to reference for my own work. I love my Live 2 but wow I hate the way Akai implemented external MIDI control. So counterintuitive, and I feel like I spend countless hours building MIDI control templates for my live sets just for the MPC to either forget certain settings or otherwise just stop functioning as expected. Hoping with recent updates some of these issues are resolved because it is getting to the point where I am looking to replace the centerpiece of my set as a result.
Cool that you will vary things up for your next show but you should play whichever instrument you like. It's your show! This was fun to watch in realtime so thanks!
Thanks! I do love playing the drums, but I also would love more than 40 people to come to the live streams lol. I figured this is a fun way I can learn a new skill and appeal to a wider audience!
Hey this was really cool to watch. I just got the Live 2 and was just thinking about how to do a live set. Can't wait to see what yo come up with for you performance.
this is great! didn't know about midi merge, i was trying to use my launch key mini to play keyboard and drum on the mpc at the same time. I also have a launchpad, which i didn't even think about trigging songs without the drums and jamming in live, great idea! I don't know if you ever figured out mutes and additional live features but id love to see it.
@@FreeBeat Thanks! So apparently you can trigger clips in One Shot mode but not in Toggle mode (not like the normal Clip mode)... which would make the Live/One look way too much like a Force for Akai's taste... #SAD
Is it possible to do what you did with a backing track but instead of the backing track have a MIDI sequence triggering samples within the MPC but start/stop that sequence with the Launchpad?
thinking i might well get me on of these my dad has a cheaper thing that does some of the stuff but its not as good and i dont like the button on it at all
Nice. Do you think it could be done on a controller like on an arturia with pads and keys? I'd love to be able to have synth, drums, and sample pads all controlled at once. I'm not crafty enough (yet) to make it work but this inspired me. 👍
@mike venus What is it that you can you do with the launchpad pro mk3 on the MPC that the Launchpad x cant do on the MPC, i only want one to pair with my MPC in standalone mode not to use it with Ableton.
@@FaidedBTB I only use one at a time. If you like that Ableton style of chip launching, I would suggest the Launchpad Pro mk3. You can use the Launchpad x, but I find it to be better suited with Ableton than with the Mpc In Standalone Mode. I don’t own any of those things anymore but I still stand by my comment I left on this video. Hopefully this answer your question and is helpful. 👨🏽🦱🫡
Dope stuff my guy. Still haven’t placed my order 🤣 the indecisiveness is real! Lol Thanks for posting every day man, you’re so dedicated it’s really an inspiration. I’m making more music than ever nowadays and yes on my iPad lol but I’m at the point I dunno if I need a live two, might start working with some cheaper stuff first, like a model cycles, or an mc 101 and slowly build my hardware set up. 😆 cheers my guy
Thanks so much! Honestly if you're on the fence about the MPC gear, just go for it. Especially with the MPC one just being $800 US, the amount of value it brings is absolutely unreal.
All the backing tracks are just long samples. (Drumless versions of the tracks that I write on my various instruments). I don't really use loops for anything haha. Thanks for watching!
Yes thanks I realized when I heard the end of it. I started rewinding the video after I heard the first few bars to find out and asked the question then I didn’t change the question after I heard the answer for myself. I wish one could set up pads for loop latch in a drum program for finger drumming. There are work arounds with the envelope and clip launch mode but it’s a little clunky.
Glad you like the One but have you checked out the Force? Check Nick Trikakis NAMM 2020 video. Another firmware update coming to with disk streaming maybe soon too. Slightly different workflow than MPC but exponentially more versatile especially for live performance. th-cam.com/video/nksBTjDzBSc/w-d-xo.html

Thanks so much! This show will still have a full-blown light show as well :)

That's a great tip, thanks for sharing!
love the vibe of this song
Thank you!
cool. mpc looks great !
It really is!
Exciting! I am also new to this stuff and learning is very comfortable for me while watching you figuring it out. :)
Glad to help!

@@FreeBeat Maybe someday, when you are TH-cam Huge, you can do a bit of everything. I always send links to your drumming vids to my drummer friends.
Looking forward to it :D
See you there!

Yeah, so much functionality!
Very cool. Thanks for

Great stuff. Have you considered using LaunchControl XL to spice up transition effects like cutoff and all other modulation effects given by akai?
I've definitely considered it, not sure if I'll work it into this next live performance but I definitely plan on using them together at some point!

If you can toggle the effects it would be cool to add some dub style delay to that beat. Great drumming too.
Definitely, thank you!

Yup, super easy!
I use the launchpad pro mk3 and launchpad x with my Mpc Live2 in standalone mode. It’s a great pair. Have you try the clip program with the launchpad?
I honestly haven't tried the clip mode really at all on the MPC. Does it work well with the launch pad?
@@FreeBeat Idk 🤷🏽♂️, but it’s worth a try. I’m curious to see if that would work.

So real MPC One plus launch pad is Akai Force - well at least once Force gets software update
Sort of, however the force uses a clip-based workflow, where the MPC does not.
You can use the hakai pirate Os on mpc with a Launchpad and Get a force type of workflow
Dude you keep me up all night with your vids! I'm hooked. What camera gear do you use?
Thanks! My main camera is an older Panasonic, and everyone once in a while I will throw in my g7x.
Can maschine jam work with my MPC one ?
I'm not sure, sorry!
nope i just tried it, it lights up for one second & then turns off, i use my MPC X in standalone mode.
Is the backing track a long sample or is it looping and if it is looping how?
