Liven Lofi-12 Live Set Version 2 (Chill/Lofi Hip-Hop)
The sequel to the last Lofi-12 set... last track is the same as the other set, because I like it. Also, I just finished a cocktail arcade build, which was a surprise gift for a friend. Thought it would be nice to show it off a little before it's gone. These sort of tunes sorta lean into arcade gaming a bit 🤷♂️. Link to first set:

well done, sounds lovely, may i ask how you are changing songs, what trick are you using since there is just one tape? thanks
Thanks mate! Each song/sketch is only about 15-20 seconds on the tape. To skip between loops you use shift and left or right to go backwards/forwards along the tape. If you have a look at my channel there are a couple of short tutorials about how I build my sets and some performance techniques. Have a good one, thanks again for checking out the channel!
@@HoochMusic ok, i suspected something like that, works very well and i haven't seen anyone else doing it, great job!
Thanks Woody!
Love this set so much! What are you running the lofi-12 into?
Thanks Tyler! It’s going into the mini kp2 for recording and for the filter effect. If you like this set, you might like the recent follow up too… th-cam.com/video/so0Bdcqnyls/w-d-xo.htmlsi=yIkEwKTZBjuh6Ufe
Hey thanks for this- I got this working using Audacity. For some reason I tried the same thing with Wavelab exporting as 32bit PCM and it didnt work- Id be curious if anyone knows the reason why?
Happy to help! I haven’t done this since I made this video but I thought the latest Field update meant that you could just drag old OP-1 tape files straight into the Field now, so this step might be redundant. Could be wrong 🤷♂️
instant subscribe. that performance at the end was fantastic! idk why but how quickly you were switching to the tape to mute/unmute tracks only to quickly turn back to the nitro really amazed me.
Thanks very much! Just the product of having a fun time haha. Appreciate the sub, I’m dropping a new set on the OP-1f soon that’s utilising the mixer a little more heavily, focused on transitions. Hope to catch ya there! 🤝
This set is incredible to watch. I can’t imagine what it takes to have such control of the OP1f. I’m totally inspired and just shocked at how there’s nothing to dislike here. Every single beat is flawless. All of your transitions are seamless, and the way you play around makes me straight up jealous. This is a clinic I’ll be studying forever. I don’t understand how I didn’t find this earlier. You’re so gangster. SO gangster. How long did it take you to collect all of these beats??
Haha thank you so much man, I loved reading this! I appreciate it heaps. Just subbed to your channel, looks like I could learn plenty from you! When I set out to create a set like this, I generally pump out 1-2 beats per day. Sometimes it takes 15 mins and everything works beautifully, sometimes I decide I’m quitting music forever because I’ve sat there for 2 hours and everything sounds rubbish 😂.
@ I laughed when I read quitting music. That’s definitely once a week for me. Well your beats are genuinely incredible so don’t ever quit. Steven’s you have a preferred machine, or is the OP1 it for you? I’ve never tried the SP-404, but I see that you use one of those as well.
@NovakTheEnjoyer thanks again man! And good question… I love using pads to perform, but I much prefer the workflow of the OP-1 and the way the sampler works just agrees with my brain 🧠 haha. The OP-XY looks amazing, but I’ve been mucking around with a new idea that I want to try first… buy a couple of old iphones, run Koala on each, control with midi pads/keys, mix between the two signals with a crossfader, record and master fx with mini kaos pad 🤔 ambitious, but I’ll report back if it works! I 3D printed my ideal sampler as a modelled prototype but I am shit at electronics so will have to settle for koala for now… How about you? Favourite piece of gear?
You are very skilled well done!
Thank you so much 🤗
Just want to say that 3 years later this video is still inspiring people! I’ve used the OP-1 and now OP-1F for years and never would’ve thought to use the drum sampler from chopping like this, or using overdubbing to mix effects in on single textures like that. Incredibly clever and also the track itself is a banger
Ahh thank you so much! Appreciate you letting me know it’s helped. Given your history, you’re probably in the same boat as me atm… Just hanging out for that op-xy 😂
@ Ha yep, preordered on day one. Excited to see how it compliments the OP-1F, I think I’m going to keep both and get rid of some of my Elektron synths to focus.
@hudhawk02 uhhh I’m jealous! Looks amazing, OP-1’s are generally not very cooperative devices in my experience but the op-xy is a totally different workflow but the looks of things. I’d be interested to hear if there is a learning curve as an OP-1 user… good luck!
this should be like the standard framework for anyone looking to get into OP-1 haha.
😆 good advice I will let you tell everybody that haha - thank you!
Tx for response! I think I got it now. So as I understand, it solos when in tape mode whichever track you hold. And it looks like when you skip to the next loop it finishes it out so it’s all seamless sonically?
No worries! Yep pretty much, but you can hold your finger down in tape made, and then change to the mixer or fx and as long as you keep your finger down you can still solo the track you want while you’re playing with fx/levels.
@@HoochMusic got it tx again.. super helpful.
Awesome stuff man ty. I am a beginner… simple question, how are you switching to new tracks as you go? 10:33
No worries man, appreciate you taking the time to drop a comment 🤝. At 10:33 it looks like I’m just holding my finger down on tracks 1 and 3, so that I’m soloing the melody and the percussion. Then, I release my finger and all 4 tracks play. Maybe it sounds like a different section of the tape, but it’s the same loop but with all 4 tracks playing. If you’re referring to skipping between loops throughout a set, you hold shift and either < or >. Hopefully I’ve answered your question!
Skills! Really well done, I liked the pace and transitions were all smooth. If I had to nitpick I’d say those vocal samples were too quiet but really great set again.
Thanks heaps, thats a fair review - my attention span tends to wane when I’m organising my sets and levelling can sometimes go out the window haha. Good feedback 👊
Here after the OP-XY dropped just to remind myself I don't need it lol. Awesome to see what you're able to do with the OG.
Hahaha farrrrrrrrr I still want it man 🤣. Thanks very much Matt!
Really nice work man! Dig the tunes and arrangements and am blown away by what you're pulling off with such minimal gear. That lofi 12 sounds spot on awesome.
Thanks very much mate! Yeh, the lofi 12 does it’s job brilliantly.

@@HoochMusic amazing dude this is killer stuff
Every video i watch of this thing makes me want it more and more. It's amazing.
Yeh it’s a bit of fun!
As a Lofi-12 owner myself, I really appreciate the skill here. It does have a habit of making everything sound really good, but you've done a great job. Got a couple of questions... 1. Your other kit, the batter pack and power2USB adapter? and the little box to the right? 2. Is this all one take or have you cut some of it together? I've been listening rather than watching to I'm interested in the pattern transitions...
Gday Mat, thanks very much mate! I appreciate you taking the time. 1. The power bank is just a standard airplane friendly 26000mah, generic brand. Got the 5v to 9v converter from a local electronics store but you can grab them online from myvolts. The filter was supplied by the Korg Mini Kp2. 2. Everything was recorded in one take into the mini kp2. As far as pattern transitions I just used a filter and dropped some tracks out. When I saved each song, I muted most tracks so that the transition would be less noticeable. So, I might keep track 1 (melody) and track 3 (drums) and mute the other two. Just as an example. Hope that helps mate!
@@HoochMusic really helpful thanks. Will have to give it a go sometime!
Love it!
Thanks very much!

Super cool vibe! How does the MPC Live react when using a mic or instrument line in?
Thanks! Yeh it works fine, there is an input volume knob to adjust level. I’ve not found it great working with audio but now that MPC 3 has a linear view I expect it’d be a lot better.
Nice…. But there are no audio cables coming from the back of your MPC, but still the SP-404 seems to affect the audio coming from the MPC. How do you pull that off?
Thanks man! Just went from headphone out into SP.
Very cool. I like the simplicity of your setup. We are planning a live set and this seems to be a very good starting point. Thanks for the nice set and for sharing your approach ✌️

Hi, I wonder how is the CPU situation with the latest firmware. Does the CPU usage improved without being required to press the stop button? Thank you.
That is a very good question, I actually don’t have the update yet so I can’t tell you. I’d imagine it’ll be similar though, I can’t see how an update would fix that, but I certainly hope it does!
@@HoochMusic Thank you for feedback. Did you try to use the MPC as a controller with the MPC software, use the same workflow, but with the extra computing power from your computer? Does it help to achieve a longer live session?
No worries Dorin - thank you! I would say this is definitely a workaround that would solve the problem, good thinking. I’m not really keen on using a computer if I can avoid though, so might need to keep double-tapping that stop button haha 🤷♂️
Enjoying this close to midnight, thank you. Today started learning my sonicware lofi12

Respect man you are probably the best op1 user out there 💯💯
Hey, thanks so much! 🤝
yo bro, wher eu get your dc battery connection converter and what powerbank u using?
Hey, got it from myvolts and the powerbank was from Kmart - got the biggest you’re allowed to take on a plane.
For a moment I was like "ah, ko2s is in the mix", but then i realized something's off and that this is actually kp2s with a ko2 back-cover. I suppose you put the ko2 cover because the kp2s cover rubber tend to deteriorate over time? Nice work by the way! 😊 Are these factory Liven Lofi-12 samples or you sampled something?
Haha yeh confusing I know… dude I bought it from had the yellow cover on it 🤷♂️. Handy device to record and a nice little filter. Thanks - the samples were all recorded in to the lofi-12. There might be a couple of factory instrument sounds that I play on the keyboard though.
Looks like we had the exact same set up before ceasing the fuck around and buying a mpc haha
