    I remember sitting in chemistry class and this guy behind me tapped me on the shoulder and I thought he was going to say something about our homework so I held up my notebook and smiled but then he said to me “you need to cut your hair, you have really bad split ends” my face got so red and my smile turned to shock lol😵‍💫that moment haunts me to this day ☠️

      Its okay... this reminds me of such an embarrassing moment. I got seated next to a cute boy in 10th grade and we used to flirt and joke around... and one day he leaned in really closely... i thought he was gna kiss me he came so close and then he reaches up with his hand to my face... and plucks a hair from my chin!!... Then he says "Omg I got it! This has been bothering me for weeks". Dude!! I nearly died 😅

    I’m overcoming a huge compulsion to split my hair. Even making new split ends on healthy hair and these were my favorite to split. I’m so so glad I’ve made progress. I don’t have these splits anymore!

      I used to literally spend an hour splitting my ends. Even if there was no split ends I’d rub a single hair shaft until I made a split end. Eww I know. It was an avoidance behavior. When it was a white ball you could split many hair fibers on one hair. 10/10 satisfying.
      I mostly stopped this and have much healthier hair.

    I used to be covered in those white dots! I trim my own ends. Elle bangs does a tutorial on it. You grab some of your hair, wrap it around your finger and slowly glide your fingers and cut any white dots you see. Its an actual technique i just duno what its called. Im obsessed with doing it. That and adding a oil treatment before bed. Using k18 or olaplex 3 i switch it up and a hair mask, wash once a week. I virtually have none left

    My hair health journey definitely began with scalp care and cleansing with a routine, and learning how to heat style responsibly. I tried a point in my life to air dry and stop heat styling for three years straight, and nothing happened to improve my hair. This journey only showed me that I was still at a place where I started lol! Once I learned how to use professional products and tools correctly with a healthy routine was the only time I saw my hair living its best life :D And yes, patience!

    Thank you so much for this information. This happened to me when my well-meaning colorist attempted to help me by bleaching some of my salt and pepper gray hair to match the natural silver steaks I have around my face. I developed this condition on the most gray parts of my hair that were bleached….and those parts turned a light brownish blond color. I had been growing out my gray for almost 3 years. I hope that this helps someone to not be as foolish as I was.

    Perfect timing!! I haven't colored my hair in years and rarely use heat on it, yet I have so much breakage (I think it's breakage) that I hate wash days because it looks worse with fly-a-ways (today was a wash day so perfect timing). I have yet to understand why all the damage. I try to be gentle when it's wet. Hopefully these tips will help because I'm literally wanting to cut it all off (but I'm reminded that I don't like my hair short...LOL!!) Thanks!!💕

    I used to have this issue. My hair was very damaged from All The Things - I used high heat, colored frequently, brushed from root to end to detangle. In 2020, I lost my job and was unemployed for almost a year after (COVID), so I decided to stop all coloring and heat-styling and be gentle to my hair. It took over a year to grow out the damage, but now it’s healthy and looks so much better. I do use leave-in conditioner and hair oil, and diffuse my hair to dry it, as well as sleeping on a silk pillowcase, etc. I recently started coloring again, but try to take as long as possible between coloring, using a glossing toner that helps protect it in between times I do the roots.
    Good video, and all the best to you on pursuing your trich…hair degree. 😅

    I very much have this on my long bleached hair. If you already have a lot of layers, I actually recommend getting a good pair of hair cutting scissors from the beauty supply store and carefully trimming them out over the course of time. It is going to increase how often you have to get a haircut in order to keep a good shape, but it has prevented the spread of them more than any other action. Especially if you’re like me and you’ll just wanna pick them off if you see them. I recommend spending about three minutes a day, set a timer it’s addictive, just cutting them out. I saw a huge improvement in how many were continuing develop.

    My hair completely broke off and my hairdresser said my hair looked like I had a “chemical cut” even though it’s not processed. My Shampoo was the culprit!! I used an extreme keratin treatment shampoo without knowing it and ruined my thin, healthy hair..

    I cut those little white dots off, because it indeed feels like it’s going to break off anyway. But I also totally understand that people don’t - I’ve had multiple hairs growing for an inch or two after such a white dot, so it’s possible! Just personally don’t like the look of them, although nobody else can see them😆

  • @Audrey-uz7ex
    @Audrey-uz7ex ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I used to get these little white dots all the time when I used "heatless curl" techniques. About a year and a half ago I stopped all heatless curls and air drying and now blow dry with a round brush every time I wash my hair. I also use a curling iron (on very low heat) every week or so just on the ends to get a blowout effect. I rarely see any breakage. Using heat instead of "heatless curls" actually saved my hair. That would have blown my mind a few years ago.
    I'm curious if you could do a video on that -- the damage you get from heatless curls as opposed to low heat styling tools. Thanks for all your content! Love your attention to detail.

    Oh yes, I'm dealing with this problems now. I have moved in new country, all the products around me was new(even L'Oréal have slightly different names here), moreover, all my old loved products lost effect with new low quality water. After L'Oréal frizz killer serum(it was recommended me by one blogger) all my hair extremely damaged, because this piece of sĥit glues all of your hair together, and during brushing you separating them with specific sound, that definitely screams damage. It takes time to realise who's bad boy in your shelf, so now I have extremely damaged hair than before. And yes, I have natural hair without any bleaching or dying. So, coconut oil and citric acid are my new friends for now

    I’ve been having really weird things happening to my hair in terms of snapping and being a lot weaker then it used to be- it’s weird because I’m guessing it’s coming for excessively putting up my hair in a ponytail (even though it’s a low pony) and a claw clip. I cant imagine it coming from anything else- I took a break from coloring and don’t use heat much at all. We need a new product, a perm-mimicking solution, something that coats each hair and holds the curl for a few months. It would either wear off or have a solvent that removes it if needed. Basically, it would give a semi-perm without damaging the hair. We would apply it to the hair and use rollers, similar to getting a perm. It could be a mousse, cream, or a solution that holds the curl once it dries and it would not wash out. Any idea? It should be breathable and good for the hair, and it would not only hold the curl but because of coating each hair, it would give a body to it as well.

    Trichorrhexis nodosa! So that’s what it’s called. I have that on a bunch of hairs in addition to a bunch of splint ends too. I’ve pulled those hairs and broken them off at the node bc I couldn’t stand the way it looks. 😬 I don’t use heat and don’t dye my hair, and luckily my hair is long and down to my hips anyway. I think it may have happened due to lice combing my hair more than three times in the last three years, thanks to having three young boys with very long hair in school. 😭and also spending time almost weekly in either the ocean or pools over the last 3 years.
    Today, it was time for a new conditioner, so I just bought Redken Extreme (was having a hard time choosing between that and the Acid Bond one). I also bought the Living Proof Triple Bond Complex (one day I’ll try K-18 thanks to you), and Olaplex #7 for the ends (but would’ve gone for Curlbond Split-End Serum if had been available). Once I finish my current leave-in conditioners, I’m planning on the Pureology Color Fanatic vs Redken Acidic or Extreme Leave-In vs Tough-Love Leave-In vs Olaplex #6.
    Now to figure out what hair mask to use (that’s a new thing for me) and what shampoo to use once I finish my current ones (thinking of one of the repair ones too or a K-18 one). 😅
    Seems like a lot but I’ve tried a lot of different things in my 40 years, and I think I’m starting to finally figure it out, thanks a lot to your videos. It’s been complicated since I’ve always been a swimmer with damaged hair, which is also very thick, coarse, frizzy, long, wavy, dry, and prematurely platinum white in some areas. And when I was in high school, I would blow dry it straight every day without a heat protectant, and once had it chemically relaxed. 😭

    I had this issue years ago but don't anymore. I don't know what I may be doing differently. I would imagine the lighter the hair is, the harder it would be to see the fray. Also, the thinner the hair, the harder it would be to see this. Coarse dark hair would show the most. I'm watching this video because I know I have heat damage (I never ever use a heat protector but will now). I cut my hair so often, the split ends are gone and for some reason, I don't have those white spots on the shaft.

      -treat your hair like it’s the most fragile thing ever, be ridiculously gentle (especially when brushing)

      -gentle or no styling
      -oil the ends whenever they’re not conditioned properly

    this is exactly what i needed right now. i just came back from the hairdresser and i saw these white little dots all over my hair and also in my mids and i just need to touch those parts and my hair strand literally breaks instantly with not much force... i'm scared that all of my hair is gonna break off now and not only on the ends but also my lengths :(

    I don’t bleach or use heat styling. But I get damage from the sun. I go to the beach often. It will turn light blond and dry out. I use leave in conditioners, but I need to do more to protect my hair. Trying to find a heat protectant that’ll work for me.

    Abby, when I told my stylist I oil my hair before I shampoo she was so rude about it. She’s like what’s the point you are washing it. What do you say to people that say that. Yes, I got a new stylist.

    PLEASE HELP, I have really straight and fine hair, but recently I have noticed that some strands of hair have become crinkly for no reason. I barely use heat tools and my washing and caring routine has stayed the same. Please help

    Abbey can you do a video on baby hairs/new growth vs breakage. Sometimes after i wash my hair i have all of these tiny little hairs popping up around my ear lengths but from memory a year ago they were more up at the root so i am pretty sure some of it is new growth
    I am also curious about what hairbrushes you use and if you have multiple ones for different times of the week like a wet brush for hairwash day but maybe you use a boar bristle or something else when you oil your hair
    i am also struggling to keep the hair around my face long i try to trim the split ends and be gentle but the face framing pieces are always shorter lol if anyone has any recommendations for that it would be awesome

    Sooo if you get your hair dyed, would it color the white speck the same color or does it remain white? Asking cause I have bumps kinda like it but they aren’t white, they’re the same color as my hair…

    THIS IS MY HAIR I used to have long beautiful plentiful hair but the last few yrs I have about 1/8th the amount because of those Hell-Dots NO hair stylists EVER suggested this. so THANK YOU SOO MUCH.
    ABBEY what are your thoughts on using K18? There is the new leave in oil...what would you suggest as they are very pricey and I can only get 1. My hair is Oh so fine and goes to oil town in no time. Redkin line also fries my hair; what other bonding shampoo/conditioner would be good? THANKS again :)

    • @buckyyyb
      @buckyyyb 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      She loves K18! The most important thing when choosing a shampoo and conditioner is to incorporate getting a clarifying one, too. If you’re not removing buildup once a week, it’s going to ruin your hair. Any shampoo that has the words “smoothing, shine, volumizing” all contain styling products to give that finish. So you really want to make sure you’re clarifying once a week. Maybe instead of a conditioner, opt for a hair mask. They tend to absorb better? (This is purely anecdotal in my experience) L’Oréal elastic hair mask seems incredible. Dollar Tree’s Salon Selectives in the pink tub works really well. And so does biolage deep conditioning mask. If you haven’t tried L’Oréal’s bonding line she has said it’s her favorite drugstore bonding line! ❤ good luck! ❤

Your hair looks much softer on color and is something I'd like to try. What exactly do you get at your color appt now? I'm going in a couple weeks and I'm nervous. Thank you so much for all the vids, I've been here for a long while!

    Which bond repair line is the best? I've tried the L'Oreal bond repair set and it seems to make my fine hair feel dry and weighed down. Olaplex and K18 work nicely but I was wondering about other ones like Redken and Fekkai. In your opinion which ones are the best and actually work? Thanks for your help!

    Hi Abbey. I watch your videos a lot. What do you think of the Brazilian blowout hair treatment? Is it good for your hair like bonding treatments or is it ultimately doing more damage?

    • @Opalescenttreeshark
      @Opalescenttreeshark ปีที่แล้ว

      Not abbey but I’ve done a lot of research on this having curly frizzy hair and searching for a “cure” lol. Basically, it’s a band aid fix that in the end causes more damage due to the high heat applied during the treatment. There’s also some pretty scary evidence of the health ramifications of the formaldehyde used in these treatments. 😢

    • @zzzzera
      @zzzzera ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s good if you want an instant aesthetic/physical fix. It will indeed do what it claims but effects are all temporary. Brazilian blowouts can make the hair brittle eventually if done too many times in a year. Do not get a brazilian blowout for more than 3 times in a year.

    what would you recommend , I have a lot of tangling after the shower because I have thin hair and I don't know which leave in conditionner, I did K18 but without connditionner as they recommend and my hair was plenty of knots wich detangling made breaking worse even by being super gentle . what can I use for conditionner or leave in conditionner , is k18 a leave in conditionner if yes why doesn't it detangle hair?

    At this point in my hair journey, I'm ready for the Big Chop. I've been bleaching my dirty blonde wavy fine hair for 4 years and 10 months to a level 10, and it shows. Oh, The damage! I'm done. It clarified a lot of myths about some not-so-bad ingredients, and the all natural hype. Thanks so much for all you do!♡❀˖⁺. ༶ ⋆˙⊹❀♡
