As an Australian, the national pride I feel when I watch your videos is high. One of the best TH-camrs on the platform for sure!
Thank you so much!
Absolutely!
Literally I was just thinking the same and wrote it in my own comment! I seem to recall Michelle said she went to James Ruse High - so she’s also repping Western Sydney with pride! ❤😊
Michelle needs an OAM for all the melanoma she’s preventing, honestly!
As an Australian Asian, even more so! Go Michelle!
Over the ditch here in NZ, and I'm proud!! I love Michelle. She's my favorite youtuber hands down!
I just started using silicones again after you mentioned in a previous video they're protectants, and suddenly the amount of hair I shed in the shower has dramatically reduced. Thank you for explaining all this stuff!
So happy to hear they're working for you!
@@LabMuffinBeautyScience i don´t think silicones can do something for the scalp.Rather agains it -> build up and therefore hair shedding, so just an coincidence that this time i was less. But in the long run...
Also you advertise amodemethicon but you don´t tell people that all these products will also contain oter harming ingredients like (isopropyl) alcohol. So...worthless 😢
@@madlenj.4644 so I read somewhere that alcohol in hair products have the potential to be damaging if used in excess and/or not used in conjunction with emollients (like silicones & oils). Alcohol can dry your hair out, so emollients act as a protective barrier
@@madlenj.4644 my shedding had nothing to do with scalp issues. I have very long hair and detangling it without silicones was simply ripping it out.
@@tnguyen710 the alcohol is damaging and the silicones as well. Even if what you´ve heard would be right, how could all the different products not be damaging, when always the concentration of alcohol and silicones are different? If your theory would be right, there would be a need to meet a certain ratio , which is never the case.
Is anyone here old enough to remember the Infusium 23 line of hair care? Their leave in hair conditioner worked like an absolute miracle - every time. Come to learn Amodimethicone is second on the ingredient list along with some other impressive ingredients too.
It was a staple in my routine when my hair was relaxed!
I still use and love it!
I used it up to a few years ago, I think, when Walmart stopped carrying it! It was my favorite leave-in! It made my frizzy ( I found out, curly hair) manageable💗💗💗
My friend way back when had really silky hair, and she told me she used infusium 23. Never would have remembered that if not for your comment!
I remember it. There was a spray that was a maroon like bottle with a gold top I think. Worked amazingly!
I've been waiting forever for you to talk about haircare ever since you last mentioned it, because you're probably the only evidence-based beauty content creator that has the same hair profile and issues I do. 🥺 Thank you for this. Please run me down your products that you like for your scalp issues too please. You made a short one before but I'd love a deep dive.
I would love to know more about scalp issues too
Yes that's on the very long to-do list!
Do you know another evidence based creators with other hair profiles? 😊 thank you!
me too!
Curly girl here, just a tip for applying leave in conditioners, it helps if you add water to them. If I didnt add water, I'd need like a whole handful, but by adding water to my palms as I apply, I only use about a 20 cent piece worth of product. Its a bit annoying to have to wet your hair but once you figure out the right amount for your hair, you can get away with using just enough to help spread the product but not so much that you saturate your hair. In the past, I have added it to a spray bottle of water, but I found I had less control that way and my hair ended up a lot wetter.
You can get products that spritz if you're not in love with the brand you use it's worth trying a different one. I like the spritz ones because if my hair is tangled it's a lot easier to use spray to help detangle it than having to wet down my hair.
Hey, what Brand do you use?
Thanks for talking about silicones, I have very sensitive skin and I have had huge success with skincare products that have silicones and it’s frustrating to see all silicones demonized by clean beauty.
I’m here to demonize clean beauty. 😎
As a curly girl my hair has been so much better with minimal silicones & no sls because the silicones were weighing down my curls. But im sure silicones are great for the hair types that need them.
I have fairly straight hair, used to use Elseve for that and let me tell you : silicone killed my hair, and was a nightmare to take out. So no, it ain't all sunshine and flowers either. It suits those who got the right hair, not everyone. Be careful with that stuff
YES!!!!! I WOULD LOVE A VIDEO ABOUT INGREDIENT LISTS!!!!!!! Please talk about fragrance as well. I have sensitive skin, and I’m at the point where I wonder if I shouldn’t get so hung up about whether a product has essential oils/parfum/fragrance because they’re everywhere 🫠🫠🫠
Same here, especially as someone with a chemistry background! I really wish that manufacturers would put the concentrations on their list of ingredients. Does x shampoo have more SDS in it than y shampoo even though their lists are identical? I am not trying to shirk SDS by any means... (or SLS) but it would be awesome to know what is actually really in the shampoo we're getting. If two conditioners have dimethicones as third ingredient on the list, does that mean that they are at the same concentration?
I wish my husband and I could *choose* to use heavily fragranced products! But we both have eczema and migraines [though his are way worse than mine].
For those with fragrance allergies like me I absolutely love the Philip Kingsley no scent no colour conditioner, amodimethicone is the 3rd ingredient. The Philip Kingsley elasticizer deep conditioner is also fragrance free with amodimethicone but further down on the ingredients list. For something cheaper (at least in the US and available at Target) the ultra sensitive conditioner by Odele has amodimethicone as the 5th ingredient.
Thank you so much, I can't do fragrance!
Thank you for the recommendations!
This is my favorite too!
thank you! i don’t have a fragrance allergy but the strong fragrances of products in the shower makes me nauseous, and if im already sick it makes me throw up 🥲 i love a fragrance free option!
I just started using the Philip Kingsley fragrance free products because I can't tolerate any scent anymore. I never heard of Odele though. Does it work as well as Philip Kingsley? Is there a matching fragrance free shampoo?
For a drugstore wash-off conditioner option available in many countries: L'Oreal (Elvital / Elvive / Elseve, depending on the language) Rapid Reviver. Amodimethicone is 3rd ingredients in the ingredients list.
And for a drugstore leave-on spray: Pantene 3 second gloss (sometimes called 7 in 1 miracle oil spray in some countries) also has it in 3rd. It's one of the rare things that conditions without weighing down my very thin hair, just leave them super shiny and supple.
Interesting. Most elseve either weighed down my hair completely, or staightened it to an unpleasant degree, but I just don't remember which lines they were. Rapid reciver is a line I should look into just in case, since I also have super thin hair that gets weighed down by anything. But for me it's also important that the shampoo doesn't have any silicones, but I'm fine aith them in a conditioner - as long as I don't put it onto my skin.
@@atriyakoller136 i used to feel the same after bad experiences of weightdown hair with conditioners but amodimethicone has been much better.
Rapid Reviver (also called rapid restore in some countries) isn't a line it's a product that Elvive actually has a version of in at least 3 of their existing line that i know of: color-vive (the red one), dream length (orange one) extraordinary oil (brown one). All 3 RR conditioners in those, are declinaison of the same base formula with different fragrances and a few minor ingredients changes near the end of the INCI. For having teste those 3, they were basically the same.
@@ehhh888 oh, thanks, I'll look into them. Idk if I can find them in my country but might be a nice product for me
I've never heard of a rapid reviver.. but I do use their shine conditioner where amodimethicone is high up on the list.
The spray from the Rapid Reviver line works well, but it made my bathroom floor deadly slippery 😝
Looks like I'll be using dry shampoo tomorrow because although I'm out of shampoo I'm not buying another bottle until I watch this.
I swear I would have been a better student in high school and college if I had teachers who made learning complex concepts as easy and enjoyable as you do. Looking forward to reading your book!

This is why I hated the idea of needing chemistry 1&2 and organic chemistry 1&2 for my nursing pre-requisites and now I’m so fascinated by it I may be going into investigation. Excellent content 😎
Thank you! Chemistry is pretty awesome - unfortunately most tertiary instructors are rewarded for research output and not teaching quality 😢
@@LabMuffinBeautyScience I'm convinced that at least half of the people in the world who think they hate chemistry really just hate their gen chem profs.

I’ve been using kids shampoo and conditioner for ages because I love what dimethicone does for my hair, it’s so nice to see a video explaining how it works. Plus recommendations for products for adults makes me feel so much better about this lol
I do love the evidence-based way you look at things, and that you explain it so well.
My favourite amodimethicone-containing conditioner is the Function of Beauty hair mask I use
I literally read your old blog post on this a couple of days ago because I had a sample of a product containing this and I don’t use silicones! Incredible timing!
I’ve been using TRESemmé Biotin+Repair MASK for over 4 years - it also contains Amodimethicone (in the beginning of the ingredients list!)❤ This brand is easily found in Europe. I also love shampoo from Biotin+Repair line.
I love when you talk about haircare!! 😍
2:06 I would love to see more on this ingredient vs formula... debate? Dunno how to call it. I think you've briefly talked about this in previous videos but I'd love to know more about the actual chemistry behind and how different ingredients together have different effects!
I can imagine it works the same as cooking recipes: It’s all about the entire recipe, not just a particular ingredient or two. 🤷🏻♀️

For the leave in conditioners I've always been taught (By my hairdresser) to apply them to damp hair and that seems to make the spreading of the product quite a bit easier for me (and you'll need less product). Also she made me use both a wash off conditioner (let that sit for several minutes, before washing it off and then after toweldrying my hair (with a microfiber towel, just pat it dry and minimise rubbing) ) and then a leave in conditioner while the hair is still damp/moist. And yeah my hair products of choice are all redken, pricey up-front but you'll need less product, so in the long run it doesn't seem to be more expensive to me at all)
I've been using the Redken Bonding Concentrate Conditioner for a while now and i really do see a difference in my hair. It is so much smoother and shinier after each wash and i've noticed a lot less split ends after i've blow dried it.
I'm so excited about your freakin' book!! Congrats!
Mentos and Tic-Tacs used as units of measurement? I love it!

@@LabMuffinBeautyScienceyes! I’m seeing hair bonding products everywhere now and don’t get what they’re for.
@@LabMuffinBeautyScience would be interested to watch that. I have bleached damaged hair and "should" get good results from a bond builder product but my hair hates them and I have tried various ones. I get better results from conditioner than from any bonding product and I do not know why.

Just a few weeks ago I read through your blog article about amodimethicone and I LOVE YOUR VIDEO!
I have bleached baby fine hair that is pretty damaged and Redken Acidic Bonding Mask is like magic. I've also recently discovered Monday conditioner which has amodimethicone and, for me, it's an effective, economical alternative to more expensive daily conditioners-- it's only about $8 in the U.S
I swear by the acidic bonding line of Redken. The products literally transformed my hair. It feels healthier than its ever been and I have bleached blonde hair
Thanks fit reviewing drugstore brands!!! I bought Pureology Color Fanatic 21 leave on conditioner and you are right - your favorite ingredient is number 3 on the list.
What I would looooove for you to do is a deep dive into the whole color WOW series. I don’t know if it actually works or if it’s just influencer scam.
I've waited so long for trusted hair care advice. Thanks Michelle
Could you talk about lamellar water? I cannot believe how soft and silky it makes my hair, to the point where it almost makes me nervous
The first product that pops into my mind as my favorite amodemethicone product is the Pureology Color Fanatic Leave In Spray. It is pricey but so good. In general, for drugstore products, I love a lot of the L'Oreal products. I went for a couple of years avoiding silicones b/c everyone said they were bad for your hair. My hair was a mess. As I found out more about ingredients I realize how wonderful silicones were for your hair. Looking back, I used to wash my hair every night using drugstore products and my hair was great. Thank you so much for your channel.
For my dyed wavy to curly hair what works well is to rinse the conditioner only lightly, leaving sort of a film behind. It is sort of the same effect of using a leave in conditioner. The Elvive products have been working great.
Probably a recommendation you have already considered/tried but I really love Olaplex No8. At the moment I only wash my hair once a week (mainly because I'm lazy but also super busy as a nurse) so the price tag isn't as scary for me but I can honestly say it has transformed my hair.
Can't wait to read your book 🙌

Very true! You wrote an article about it while ago and I purchased the Elvive masque (the red one) and yes. It’s wonderful. Smooth but light! I now always look for this ingredient. Thank you Michelle for the info you share!!!
Good to see you around. I follow your content here on yt. Kind regards
Thank you so much Michelle for this video, I think maybe I now understand why I find my favorite product so effective! On that note, because you did not mention it, I'll give it a shout out: it is the Pureology Color Fanatic Leave In Conditioner. Apparently, amodimethicone is the 3rd ingredient. This is a post for all my peri- and menopausal ladies out there... I don't process my hair in any way, but the decrease in hormone levels has wreaked havoc -with everything, hair included. I found this product, about a year ago, when my hair started thinning and became very brittle and dry. I found a video that addressed breakage and growing your hair longer, in a very simple manner. It was sensible advice and I bought into the logic. After adding this leave in conditioner to my routine, which only consists of shampooing and towel drying, my hair is feeling better and indeed "growing" longer. By the way, HRT did help clear up some issues, (e.g. I no longer struggle with brittle nails), but hair has not improved. I am grateful to have found an OTC product that addresses the sudden shift in hair health.
I just started using Pureology Color Fanatic Leave In Conditioner and I can already tell a difference in my hair!
I swear by Pureology Color Fanatic Leave In Conditioner. It's saved my over processed hair
So validating to see my conditioner in the product list!

I’m loving the Redken acidic bonding product line too 🎉
I ordered your book, can’t wait ❤
Thank you for all that you do, Michelle!
can you make a video about how (and why) hair regrowth sometimes isn't the same texture of the hair you originally had and how to deal with it , thank you !
I just preordered your book, and can't wait! :D Also I was highly anticipating this topic about amodimethicone and conditioners generally. Ahhh, so much to learn! I really enjoy the humor and knowledge in all your work.
This made me realize why whole blends conditioner works so well for me! I don't think you tried that one but amodimethicone is 4th on the list. They have a curley hair version that's higher on the list so I'm gonna try that!
I love you Michelle! Ex lab person here (biology, not chemistry) so this is the geek talk I need for beauty!!!!! 🤩🤩 Science rocks ❤
Thanks for this video! I would love to see the video you mentioned about why you can't rely on ingredients list. I would also super appreciate a video about hair porosity, especially low porosity. Is it a thing? Is it why my hair is so dry? I feel like there's a lot of content about high porosity from bleaching but not much about low porosity and it's hard to vet that info.
I’d like that video too. I read every ingredients list, so I’d like to be better informed. And I also have low porosity hair (1A I believe) so finding products that work that don’t weigh down or not sink in is a struggle.
Same re. an ingredients list video!
Congratulations on your book! I’ll pre-order it in Amazon.
Cant wait to read your book! Im really interested in the nail section, would you ever do any videos on just nails/nail care?
You’re such a lovely TH-cam discovery! Very thorough yet understandable, thank you so much!
Saw this right before I had to go buy new shampoo so it was a big help! My current conditioner (Suave Keratin Infusion) has amodimethicone and I love that I can just slather it on almost like a mask and get deep hydration that doesn’t weigh down my hair. It’s pretty affordable and they even have a color safe version of the formula!
Yes an ingredient video please!
Great video as always! I personally don't buy from L'Oreal so a lot of haircare recommendations aren't of use to me as they dominate the market, but I appreciate you including the specific ingredients and giving clear explanations so we can do our own research
A video on ingredients would be awesome please!! 🤩😍😻
Finally recommendations we can find in OZ! ❤ thank you so much!
Omg I started with amodimethicone because of your recommendation from a few years ago and it’s been great 🥰
I love Oribe Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray. When you described the feeling of your hair with amodimethicome, I immediately thought of this product and looked it up and sure enough it has amodimethicone in it. I NEVER blow dry my hair so don't let its name fool you -- I just spray this in my wet hair (ends mostly) and let it air dry and this product is super unique and beautiful. I know it's expensive but you should try it.
Thank you for sharing your brilliance with us! I truly appreciate your videos. Love from 🇺🇸
Thank you so much!

I have caucasian curly hair and I am enjoying using Cantu’s shampoo, conditioner, then leave-in
Could you talk about K18? I really wanna understand the science behind it and I love the way you always explain it :)
I'm planning to do a long video on bond builders, but I have an old short video on how K18 works! It's sponsored so I don't think I posted it on YT, but it should be on my IG and TT 😊
@LabMuffinBeautyScience I just checked it out, thank you! Looking forward to the long video :D
Hi Michelle! Just wanted to say thank you for your videos!✨ I found out about you recently and I really love your content and appreciate your credibility that others speaking on similar topics lack. I just preordered your book and I am so excited to receive it! I enjoy your haircare content and I would love to see a video going more in depth about ingredient labels. I have sensitive skin so I would like to better understand how to read them and learn about ingredients to avoid. I’ve recently tried the J&J detangler from your rec. product list and my very bleached hair feels so soft and was much easier to comb. I’m excited to try new products esp your recommendations. Thank you for your time and effort 💕
lovely video as usual!! i'm sorry that this is off-topic from this video, but I was wondering if you knew about/could make a video on hypopigmentation? I'm a chronic skin picker (upper arms mostly) and I'm getting better about not picking, but I'm left with tiny, white circular dots all over my upper arms. I've been able to find a lot of information about hyperpigmentation, but not hypopigmentation!

I wondered why I like the Redkin line so much. I hoped it was not the power of marketing that made me believe it works so well for me. Thanks!

I used that line of Redken products when I'd bleached my hair super blonde (I have naturally curly, almost black hair) & it was feeling super damaged. It worked really well!! My hair wouldn't retain as much water and my curls became more defined. They sell a travel size/trial kit of the 3 main products for about $40, definitely recommend.
I've recently had a consultation where a hair specialist gave me a list of products to use. There're a bunch of different products to use, but there's always a combination of a good conditioner and a good leave in product after shampooing. It really makes a difference for my damaged hair.
I'm buying a new conditioner right now, thank you for all the work you put it
I have been waaaiting for this video!
I got the Acidic Perfecting Treatment Leave In recently and I love it! I also don’t have to worry about the ingredients building up in my scalp cause I can only put it where its necessary, mostly the ends. Also I have bangs that need styling everyday so its great that I can reapply a tiny amount on washed bangs. This is definitely the product for the people who want the most flexibility!
I love your videos! You look so cute in the thumbnail!!! 🧸💞
Amodimethicone in my leave-in conditioner has absolutely saved my hair during bad depressive episodes. My two go-to options are AG Conditioning Mist (when I want something lighter) and AG Fast Food (when I want something richer). I personally don’t do as well with amodimethicone in rinse-out conditioners, but it’s been long enough since that particular experiment that I’m definitely willing to try it again at some point.
Thanks for teaching. Available in Canada
buzzed guy but i regularly use conditioner on my beard 😅 i tried several of those available in my country and none of them worked well except for a shea and honey conditioner by le petit marseillais. after watching the video i checked the ingredients of all those i tried and lo and behold, only that one has amodimethicone so you're definitely onto something! great video as always
I was considering the L‘Oréal Elvital (yeah, greetings from Germany 😂) for a long time. Mainly because it’s in a light purple package and I am a sucker for that colour and because of the HA. My skin really loves HA so I was wondering what my hair would think. This video definitely convinced me to give it a try. First impression: hair feels really nice after the over night treatment.
I am really looking forward to getting my hands on your book. I am a big fan of science explained for the non-scientist without compromising on scientific language, diagrams & co. That is what I like about your videos the most!
Keep up the great work ❤
This was really interesting, thank you Michelle. I would love an analysis of JVN Hair products please. I'm skeptical of their claims when it comes to hemisqualane, and adding things like niacinamide to leave in creams.
the garnier coconut conditioner in the brown bottle works really well for me
Michelle I have been evangelising about amodimethicone since I first heard you sing it's praises. My favourite reasonably priced conditioner is the Essano Repair & Smooth Keratin Conditioner which I buy from their website. It's also got some oils & glycerin in it which works well for me and it smells DELIGHTFUL I also really like the matching shampoo but it's currently out of stock 🤞🏻 this isn't also getting discontinued! 💜
I was one of the models they tested the Redken ABC shampoo and conditioners on at their testing salon here in NYC. I also have bleached hair (I dyed it purple, too) but my hair is curly. And the shampoo alone left my hair feeling softer than anything I'd ever tried before.
That's so cool!!
I'll be picking up your book ❤
