If you don't want to do heatless styles, there are a few hairstylists that have videos on how to make your heated styles last. I know Blowout Professor has videos for how to make curls, blowouts, and straightened hair last about three days. That was really helpful for me, as my hair is too short for most heatless styles except retro curls.
My issue with heatless styles is my hair is naturally curly and frizzy, even despite being extremely healthy and silky feeling (K18 in my routine for years, rarely heat style and no bleach, hair is well moisturised)... this means I cannot successfully create a polished heatless hairstyle. It will always come out looking fluffy! I've gotten the octocurl, the sleepy tie etc. It's so frustrating! I've found the only thing that helps is using a silk scrunchie and pulling my hair taut in a low bun once its dry, wearing a bonnet. It will smooth my hair out but can take 1-2 sleeps. Any tips for us frizzy & fluffy haired followers?
heatless curls only work if you have naturally straight hair i have wavy hair and it makes them frizzy, i just straighten my hair and i’ll curl with an iron occasionally
There’s only so much you can do about frizz… its as natural as your curls are. I’d say just use heat on it.. heat doesnt damage your hair as my stylist says, not using heat protectant and using heat too often damages you hair. Otherwise, have you ever tried one of those hair defrizzing sprays? spray smooth from redken or instant defrizz from living proof?
Some really great recommendations there, Abby! But many/most of your recommendations only address long hair though. I have a shoulder length layered style. Would love some tips geared to shorter hair.
My routine for my frizzy, thick, wavy, shoulder length hair is similar on wash day (every4-5 days) I always blow dry and flat iron. Put up in loose bun on top of my head and days 2 & 3 look great still no flat iron needed it still looks good! On nights 3&4 I do a heatless curl overnight so curls for 2 days. Last day I usually put half up or clips to mask any oil.. use dry shampoo. I just put olaplex or morroccan oil drops on mids & ends every morning. So only heat on wash day! My hair is noticably healthier since Ive been doing this!
In the future, could you recommend any heatless styles for shoulder length hair. I have fine hair , shoulder length and am looking for heatless styles. Some of the recommendations mention seem geared towards longer hair. I would appreciate any recommendations you have. Love all the hair care videos, you are so helpful!!
I find the best for me is somewhat intricate and purposeful hairstyles rather than quick loose styles because if the hairstyle is too easy to take off and put back on I'll just end up having loose hair after 50min without realising and I'll play with it like crazy so things even as simple as elling woman's braid, milkmaid braids or a sockbun (I don't do that one often enough), something that uses a fair amount of hairpins, helps me not friction my hair to death. I have pin straight limp silky hair so no hairstyle feels secure until it's tightly pulled into place, I have thin hair around my face that I assumed were just the way my hair grows but I 'm pretty sure it's breakage now I'll look more deeply into historical styles that tend to have the back pulled up neatly and the front can usually be left a lot more loose (at a time when most women kept their hair long and pulled up, looser front hair was a good way to add visual interest) Also my hair is so straight that when it's clean it will by default (even if I don't brush it) fall into my face cousin it style so now that my hair is on the shorter side wet setting my hair into 20th century styles help me have it looking clean and interesting and not have it in my face all the time, although the lotion I use+ the elongated drying time+ sleeping on wet hair (for it to set) + rigorous brushing to style it+ tightness of the curlers, on wet hair+ slightly more frequent washing (every 3 days instead of once a week) mean it's probably the main way I damage my hair lol The only heat my hair allows is blow-drying (once or twice a month before it starts to get a bit dry) anything else makes it a bit more tired after every single use and nothing holds as much as rollers on me anyway and it somehow just never gives as much volume and fullness (appart from an old crimping iron, that's the only thing that holds until the next wash but I cannot make it look decent on me and the one I own doesn't even have a temperature control)
In between washes I love a good conditioning spray- I like the aerosol ones by IGK (Thirsty Girl for moisture and Antisocial for bond building and moisture). I spray at night and re-set the hair using one of those heat free methods… I’m going to pick up that Kristen Ess balm!
I use a pump of oil nearly every day after the 2/3 day I’ve washed it. I am washing only once a week and thanks to your videos and all the product recommendations I have invested in some decent hair care products and just started this proper routine about 3 weeks ago. I don’t have nearly as many products as I would like I really want to get the k18. Just the price tag I’m like ugh. My ends are so bad and for the last 3 years my hair stopped growing past a certain point. I did used to be able to get it past my bra strap and now it’s stuck just above it and no matter how long I leave between cuts I can’t get it past this point. I hope this new religious routine works. Ir do you have any extra tips? My hair is the same texture as yours very fine but a lot of it well I used to have sooooo much of it. And down to my bum as a young teen, but now I would say I have medium amounts of strands but deffo not as full as 3 years ago and I can’t get it long long. I barely use heat I never style my hair cause I’m bad at it. Only blow dry when washed so I just don’t understand why it won’t grow I’ve taken vitamins, I’m not the unhealthiest person I know and it’s so annoying. My ends are so bad tho and before this new routine, the tangle was unreal. I have to say the pureology shampoo makes my hair soooooo mated when I’m washing but then if I leave the conditioner in for a few mins it seems to go unmated ect it’s amazing. Thanks so much for your videos. I have major hair envy and you are my hairspiration right now @Abbeyyung so thank you for sharing your hair wisdom xxxx
Hi Abbey! You’ve taught me so much! I’d love a part 2 that goes deeper into reconditioning. I’m still confused on preventing breakage when hair is dry. I’m afraid to brush it dry because I hear snaps! If I notice snapping, what should I apply? I apply a spray (the purology purple one) AND oils (such as olaplex or virtue) but I feel like it’s not enough. I also get breakage throughout the day. Is there something more long lasting or should I apply it more than once a day? You’ve already taught me so much including how to use Olaplex and now K18 in such a miraculous way. (Their product instructions suck!) Even though I don’t color my hair and only blow it out once a week… after a few days, my mids and ends get brittle, tangled, and break off! Can you pls provide more insight for those of us looking to prevent breakage between washes? Very much appreciate your work! You’re brilliant!
I personally part my hair horizontally then in half, spray I light oil (Tokyo Labs Perfect shine oil) then I baby my hair by finger combing it and gently pinch and pull apart and knots. THEN I use a Wet Brush (the original oval one is good) from tip to root.
Okay but I have a question. Sometimes I use heat on my hair in between washes. Most of the heat protectors make my hair somewhat damp when I spray it on. Do I use my curling iron directly on my hair or do I wait for the heat protectant to « dry »
So what is your wash day routine? What products are you currently using? I’ve seen so many hair videos but maybe I missed what your current routine is from start to finish. I feel like you’ve changed your shampoo, styling products, etc but not exactly sure what you use to date.
Hi Abbey! Quick Question, Would you ever consider doing a virtual hair consultation? I’ve been trying to maintain long healthy hair for a long time now, and I’m just not seeing the results I want. I’ve watched SO many videos at this point and heard so much conflicting information. I would love to have someone like yourself help me create a realistic routine and product regime I can stick to. Not sure how much something like this would be worth to you, but I would be more than happy to pay you for you time!
For anyone who does a similar routine - Do you still get your hair wet in the shower on days that you don’t wash your hair? I’m trying to understand how this works. I work out every day and get very sweaty. I can not imagine not washing my hair.
This is my question too. Do people not work out regularly? Or do they not sweat very much when they do? I sweat so much when I work out that my entire scalp is dripping wet. I don’t think I could skip a wash after working out. Even if it wasn’t greasy, it would smell between washes. 🤷🏻♀️
I can see why you’d be confused. I wash my hair every Sunday, even though I do work out. I think, for me it works because 1. I dont sweat much on my head, mostly just my body. 2. My hair NEVER gets oily, its just too dry (I have curly hair). Obviously I still have to wash it sometimes but mostly that works great for me, and I think other people with similar hair to mine. In your case, I’d say you can still do it, but if you feel like you really need to wash after working out/etc, then wet your hair and use a clarifying conditioner/low poo. Im not a professional but I feel like that would work.
I wear a shower cap in between and I DO work out but don’t sweat on top of my head. There’s hair perfume if it starts to smell, or I just spray a leave-in conditioner just for the scent. I was mine every 3-4 days and have curly hair.
When I work out, my scalp sweats like crazy. Plus, my hair is baby fine and thin. I have to at least wet it most days. I find that getting my hair completely wet rinses off the scalp, I don't feel like I need to actually wash it after sweating, just rinsing my scalp does the trick. My hair will "dent" really badly at night, too, so I have to wet it to look presentable.
hey abbey, my hair desperately needs help. i’ve always have pin straight hair (can’t even hold a curl cause it’s that pin straight). But recently, the back of my hair started to become wavy and looking damaged but the front pieces of my hair is still pin straight. i’m not sure what i’m doing wrong and no matter how much i wash my hair or use k18, it’s not going back the way it was and it’s utterly shattering my hair confidence. i really hope you read this and help me out.
hey, so while i’m not abbey, I do follow her tips and have suggestions. So firstly, a couple of questions. Do you sleep on damp hair/scalp? Do you wash your hair earlier than going to bed, and then you happen to have your head resting on something? How do you brush your hair? Are you dying it? Are you using a clarifying shampoo? The first step is to analyze every little thing you may think is little, and try a different approach. If you’re using too much protein, it may be building up and making your hair fragile. (All oils count as protein, any oil you put on your hair)? Hard water? Check your vitamin levels and thyroid as well. I noticed tons of shedding around the front of my hair, and while some of it I believe may be traction damage, I also have low vitamin d. Also thinking about heat - are you using a hot tool very close to the hair? You want to avoid that! I really hope you’re doing better ❤
I am going to show this video to my wife. She was planning on getting a hair transplant done like me, so I would suggest her these tips for later use. The team at TecniFUE Hair Clinic rpovide consultations where we can ask them everything before getting the job done which I really liked because they literally guided me about every single thing!
The sleepy tie broke my hair bad. I got the mini because my hair isn’t as long as yours. It’s a few inches past my shoulders and if I try to wrap it loosely it just falls out. Just a point for people that don’t have as long of hair as yours.
Im really struggling with keeping my hair detangled. I have fine and thin hair. The protective "tools" like sleepytie are just too heavy and big for my hair. I am considering having one made that is appropriate size and weight for my hair. Thanks for all your info sharing Abbey. I have for the past year had the most success in repairing and growing my very fine and thin hair than I have ever had before. I recently started wearing a topper occasionally to get the hair I FEEL like I have but don't lol.
Do you have any recommendations for the best shampoo and conditioner for somebody who is absolutely going to wash their hair every day no matter what anyone says lol I can’t seem to find that anyone has made that video and I know it’s better to wash less, but I am nothing if not honest and I’m going to wash it every day. I just wonder if there are certain products that might be better for somebody with no interest in washing less?
Hi! I love most of your recommendations so I always highly value your opinion. I am thinking about getting the Kerastase elixir oil because I’ve heard so much about it. Have you used it? What are your thoughts on it? How would you compare it to your favorite oils mentioned? Thank you!
Same hair type here and I use jojoba oil. It's the closest oil to natural hair oils and a little goes a long way. I put a very small amount on hands and fingers and use it to detangle my hair in the morning bc my hair breaks so easily when brushing in the morning. It has done alot to nourish my ends and calm the frizz. And I've noticed more growth due to less breakage.
Hi! I just discovered your channel, and I can't get enough! My hair seems similar to yours, but I wear mine shoulder length. I just got back from a European vacation, and my hair was pretty sad about it. There is so much smoke (cigarette) and pollution. I ended up washing my hair every other day and wetting/conditioning it on the other days. Do you have any hair care tips for traveling?
Hi Abbey! Sooo I’m in a bit of a predicament because I’m required to have my hair pulled back in a tight bun everyday for my job 😭 I use gel and basic hair ties because that’s what works the best to keep my hair in place. With that being said, do you have any recommendations for a hair care regiment/products if I’m at least rinsing my hair every day?? Thank you!!
Hi. Regarding scalp care what do you do after your daily work out routine? Scalp really gets sweaty and dirty. Do you just put water to rinse off the sweat without shampooing?
Headband curls are the most easy gorgeous curls I can make on my hair (and it holds fairly well) but it always ends up being so flat and limp looking, like it looks great on photos and the curl itself is pretty but it has no movement or life of its own, plus it's not my most comfortable, I've seen someone use it on the top of the head but it's gives more of a blowout look than a loose defined curl
Hi Abbey, I have seen your wash day videos and even I use a pre-wash oil before shampooing my hair. But my question is, when you shampoo your hair you only shampoo the top and don't go below your shoulders but you apply the pre-wash oil below your shoulders. So how do you get rid of the oil below your shoulders? Just using conditioner or hair mask would add more oil to the bottom hair.
Girrrrrrl I need help with refreshing my wavy/curly hair withOUT wetting it 😭 I’ve been following SO MANY of your tips and it’s helped so so much but the one thing I can’t get right is the refresh. The entire CG community refresh is based on wetting it and I’ve found that makes my hair SO FRIGGIN FRIZZY (which makes sense to me now after watching your vids). BUT every morning I wake up and lots of sections are just shapeless. Using oil to re-condition helps with the frizz usually, sometimes I need to use some leave in conditioner too. but my biggest issue is I can’t seem to get any shape back unless I wet it. Wearing my hair up in that “pineapple” thing or a silk wrap when I sleep doesn’t help anything either. Is there anything you can recommend to help? Or am I just doomed to forever have to choose between shapeless-and-frizz-free and curly-but-frizzy 🥲😭
I have very thick and coarse curly hair, so I blow dry my hair with a diffuser attached. I only wash once a week, which means by day six, my hair is either up in a ponytail or a half-up style. I rarely do buns. I have so much hair that buns of any type give me headaches. I rediscovered banana clips a few years ago. They are a great way to do a ponytail for curly hair. Frizz is my biggest issue in between wash days. I use dry conditioner, and oil, and sometimes add a bit of mousse on day five. I NEVER dry brush my hair ever. You can't with curly hair. Like other curly girls, I brush it with a detangling brush in the shower with conditioner in my hair.
I'm the same way. I've tried going long periods of time too and it doesn't change a thing. Just keep washing your hair every 2-3 days. Some of us just have that greasy scalp 😂
I've heard it also has to do with your hair type and how sweaty you get during the day. I have fine hair and exercise regularly so I find I have to wash it more often too unfortunately.
Do you have any recommendations for someone who works in a hot, oat dust filled environment? I end up washing my hair daily because of how sweaty and gross it gets at work but I feel like it's drying out. I also have hypothyroidism, color treated hair, and thick wavy hair. I've been using Oribe or Kevin Murphy products, and no heat but I'm still getting breakage. I've tried only conditioning daily and shampooing twice a week, but that doesn't seem to help either.
As a naturally curly fine textured girl who has incredibly hard well water ( ph of 8-9 😱) what's worse getting extra days in-between washes with one day of using heat tools with a heat protectant, OR avoiding heat and exposing it to my hard water more often everyday or every other day to "reset" my curls?
honestly using heat as long as you're protecting your hair is not as terrifying as it seems (i use heat once a week). also it's best to only wash your hair when it's actually dirty or you'll end up drying out your scalp. i'd recommend either heat styling once a week or you can look up some refresh tips here on TH-cam. sometimes i do wear my hair natural and used to follow Manes by Mell who gives great advice 🫶
Am I the only one who feels gross and irritable when my head/hair aren’t clean ? I can only skip one day between washes. I need that fresh, cooling, rejuvenated feeling from a head to toe shower, or I get super uncomfortable/grumpy.
I have a bob cut, and need to wash and blow dry my hear everyday, otherwise it just looks crazy after nights sleep, any advise what to do with my hair so they manage to look good and I don’t need to wash them every single day. Thank you.❤
You mentioned blow drying later in the week for the two wash days, are you not washing once a week anymore? Just curious bc I know you were a once a week only gal for awhile now.
Hi Abbey! I was wondering if you would ever research the fads out there of Castor Oil, Rosemary oil, rice water, flax seed gel, aloe vera, etc. that are touted to be great for hair growth? And then sort of lay it all out for us? I trust your knowledge/expertise with hair, and I am not sure about what all these other women on TH-cam are saying about these more natural methods. I am interested in trying, but I don’t want to waste time/money on useless information. ❤
I wonder what your hair looks like natural like a leave in maybe but what does it look like when you don't blow dry and stuff.. I feel like that will show the true health of your hair
One of the problems with ADHD and having sensory issues for me is I cant stand having my hair in a loose pony or bun. It's so weird but unless it's tight or gives me anxiety. And I have really long hair that took a lot of work to grow out. I wish it didn't drive me crazy the way it does.
She did change it to twice a week. My memory kind of sucks lol so I can’t remember when she first mentioned it. I know for sure she said it last month in the video that’s titled I tried new viral products so you don’t have to.
Do you still only wash your hair once a week? I have been following you for a long time and I wanted to know if you still did that or have increased it to multiple times per week?
@@carolinessanders I can't find the video where she says she now washes 2x week. Only the ones where she's doing it once a week. Lol. It's got to be recent. Within the last 10 months

If you want to learn to style naturally curly hair you should follow Manes by Mel. She has a video for everything related to curly hair
Do you use a styler? Like i get that you use k18, but like a frizz leave in or something?

Abbey can you do an updated twice a week hair wash routine? 💙💙
Will add to my list!!
Also - a wet brush! I just got one at Marshalls and there were only 2 hairs in the brush after using it for the first time in the shower. I'm amazed.
I know you recently did your wash day routine but will you be doing a little update since you now wash your hair twice a week instead of once a week?
I definitely can!

Dang!! So sorry that happened to you thanks for letting us know
so helpful - no one else is making this kind of content! thank you!
What is a good hair care tips/products if you swim at the pool or go to the beach during the summer?
Happy Easter! Thanks for your tips and products, they always make my hair better.
Thanks for watching ❤
Absolutely love all your hair care videos… the best channel by far xx
What do you have on your lips? They look so good.
Love this video and I love all of your great hair tips! Do you have a video that shows how you use all of your heatless & overnight styles?
Hi Abbey, do you use oils on your scalp for hair growth ?
What is the attachment you use in your shower? I can't find a video with it! =)
Hi! I love most of your recommendations so I always highly value your opinion. I am thinking about getting the Kerastase elixir oil because I’ve heard so much about it. Have you used it? What are your thoughts on it? How would you compare it to your favorite oils mentioned? Thank you!
Do you have any recommendations for oily scalp serums or lotions to control oil production?
What are some good oils to smooth out super fine but frizzy hair? Most oils make my hair look and feel so oily with even just a couple drops
Lanza healing oil helps me
verb works great for me
moroccan oil light is amazing but a good drug store one is the kristen ess working serum
I like bread. it smells good and is very light weight and silicone free (important to me, but maybe not important to you)
I have very short bob length hair so am limited with styling, but do like the idea of conditioning in between.
Thank you!!
Would love a video on products for people who don’t have coloured hair
L'Oréal released something that looks like a redken acidic bonding dupe. I would love to see your opinion on it.
I think she has talked about it in videos and is a fan
@@KONN1182 in which video ?
Several
On ig just the other day I saw it. So maybe she put a short also here on TH-cam
What is it called
Hi abbey ❤ did you get lipfillers? Xoxo
Abbey!! Amazing video as always ♥️ happy Easter. Can you please share what brushes you use daily? Thanks!
Hi Abbey, loved the video! What are your thoughts on the milkshake line for leave in products?
Hii Abbey, what do you think of sulfates (sls, sles) in shampoo? Does a shampoo need have it or not? 😊
I’m confused. Do you wet your hair to recondition it?
Do you have a page with all your products you recommend linked? 😊
Hi Abbey ❤, Really helpful tips and tricks in this video 📹. Happy Easter 💕!
Abbey ❤ can you please give us your review on the K18 hair oil?
Have you tried the k18 hair oil that just came out?
All great info packed in one video. Thanks! Saving this for future reference
Is the Pureology line you recommend clarifying enough by itself to rid one oil application between washes?
Did you get more filler since the original time or is it just the lipgloss?!
Happy Sunday beautiful and happy Easter! 💖😘
I enjoy watching your content always learning something new
I have very thick and coarse curly hair, so I blow dry my hair with a diffuser attached. Like other curly girls, I brush it with a detangling brush in the shower with conditioner in my hair.
i'm just jealous of people who can go so many days between washes. it doesn't matter what i do my hair feels and looks like a grease ball on day 2 lol
Sometimes it’s genetic sometimes it’s a lack of patience. If its been 2 months and your hair is still greaseball status it’s likely genetic ❤
@@mikkibirb9838 makes sense. I do tend to sweat a lot, even without exercising.
Happy Easter, Abbey!🐣🐣
Do you believe in collagen peptide supplements ?
They make a huge difference for my skin 🤷🏼♀️
Am I the only one who feels gross and irritable when my head/hair aren’t clean ? I can only skip one day between washes. I need that fresh, cooling, rejuvenated feeling from a head to toe shower, or I get super uncomfortable/grumpy.
Will The Ordinary scalp serum help with an itchy scalp? The Briogeo option is a little pricey for me.
My hair gets oily if I don't dry it soon enough. Can you do your drying routine please!
Does everyone else say the outro with her? “…but until then…I hope u have a great few days”
Needed this! My hair has been struggling.
Have you tried the "Rock and Ruddle brush"?
I feel like that will show the true health of your hair
can you do a video on how to prevent frizz in a very humid weather? i live in a tropical island with 75% humidity & my hair just gets so frizzy😭
One of the problems with ADHD and having sensory issues for me is I cant stand having my hair in a loose pony or bun. It's so weird but unless it's tight or gives me anxiety. And I have really long hair that took a lot of work to grow out. I wish it didn't drive me crazy the way it does.
Am getting the Perfect Shine Oil Mist! :)
Please do a review on the brand Andalou! ❤
thank you for your tips!
Could you please do a review of bar shampoos and conditioners?
What lip products are you wearing? omg your lips look AMAZINGG
Hi Abbey. What are your thoughts on the NEW
K18 molecular repair hair oil?
Best blow out creams?
I've been using Redken's Big Blowout Heat Protection Jelly Serum. Like it so far!
bb straight is so good if you have thick frizzy hair
@@5117danielle i like this product as well!
Did you change from washing once to twice a week? I may have misunderstood you
She did change it to twice a week. My memory kind of sucks lol so I can’t remember when she first mentioned it. I know for sure she said it last month in the video that’s titled I tried new viral products so you don’t have to.
@Crystal0139 thank you! I thought I heard that too but I wasn't sure 😅
What about hair that is thin and flat so how can you style that type of hair without heat tools?
Great info. Abbey!
My fine hair will simply not go around one of those heatless curling options. I wish there was another option.
The nature lab oil is so good 😭😭😭💕
Happy Easter!🎉
thanks for a super useful content!!!
Hair clips are in trend!
Heatless accessories?
Heatless curl aid?
Love the video! Super random but did you get lip filler on your top lip? It looks fuller than usual. Is it just me?😅
We need a oribe test video!! All products
Do you still only wash your hair once a week? I have been following you for a long time and I wanted to know if you still did that or have increased it to multiple times per week?
In another video, she says she now washes it 2x week.
@@Ashley-jv8vj do you happen to know what video that is?
@@carolinessanders
I can't find the video where she says she now washes 2x week. Only the ones where she's doing it once a week. Lol. It's got to be recent. Within the last 10 months
4:15 that only works if you have really long hair. My hair is to my shoulders and my hair will fall out of those and I still need to apply some heat.
Totally agree! I have literally tried SO
Many heartless curlers and my hair looks horrible every time.
Tysm dear for the video 😍
Your hair is beautiful, very nice
Have you try Colleen Rothschild hair products?
I always get so lazy to use products in my hair.. really want to start getting into using my products
