- I booked a 4 night hotel stay in Europe completely for free using IHG points that I earned from my Chase IHG Premier credit card. Using the perks of this card, I was able to stretch my points far enough to earn a massive cents per point valuation. I was able to get these points when I received the welcome offer, or sign up bonus, after I made my Watch Me Apply video for this credit card.

IHG is great! But caution that points booking do not cover resort fees, if applicable. It lowers the value of IHG a lot in the US
That's a good point! If you're staying at resorts you totally have to factor that in

I think I commented on one of your earlier videos that I have this card as well. I booked a paid stay in Montreal and my platinum status got me great perks like a room upgrade, early check in and a my choice of extra points or a $25 cocktail voucher - I chose the voucher. I'm looking to book my first stay with points in Europe in the spring. Great video!

We stayed 4 nights at the HI Helsinki because it is closer to the train station...loved it.

Sweet redemption. You forgot to factor in the 26x points opportunity cost for purchasing. That's almost 20,000 points at the refundable rate!
You almost can't go wrong with the value you get from the IHG cards.
That’s actually a great point and I was thinking about that the other day. I need to start factoring that into my equations the amount of points I would earn if I paid for the room with my IHG card

Yes that could be a smart idea especially during a period with bonuses when buying points. Just make sure you’ll redeem these points for more value than you bought them for
How does this credit card compare to choice hotel credit card?
The Choice Hotels Select credit card is actually pretty solid in my opinion. Annual fee is about the same. The sign up bonus is higher with the IHG card, they both provide either anniversary free night or anniversary bonus, both provide the second highest tier status. I wanted the IHG card because I think it's slightly better and the properties are probably nicer and in more worldwide locations that I'd want to travel. I'd consider adding the Choice Select card down the line if I didn't want another card at the moment and had an elevated sign up bonus
Is not better to start first with ihg card with no annual fee?
The no annual fee IHG card is fine, but you can only hold one personal IHG card and one business IHG card at the same time. You can't get both personal cards, so I applied for the one that would give me a free night every year, better spending categories, and the higher sign up bonus
Hi, If i'm paying with points and my plans changed in advanced, will I get my points back ?
As long as you still have free cancellation, your points will be returned to you when you cancel
Can you you use the free night certificate that comes with the card for the 4 night stay and still get the 4th night free?
I don’t think you can do that, but you could book a hotel for 4 nights and get the 4th night free and then use the free night certificate to book a night a the end of your stay. That way you could get 5 nights for the price of 3
How do i pay with my points rather than usd?
You'll need points in your account and then there's an option to choose want you want to pay with and you'll switch it from money to points
Staying in Helsinki for 4 nights is definitely a stretch. It's a pretty small and boring city TBH.
Thanks for sharing! It's definitely possible you're right about this, but my wife and I have wanted to visit for a while and I can work anywhere in the world, so it's a little bit easier to justify staying longer. Did you have a favorite part about visiting Helsinki?
@@JacobsPointsAndProfit I was on my way to Norway, so it was more of a stopover than a destination. Truthfully, I think Norway is more interesting as I'm a nature lover. LOL. BTW, I hold both personal and biz IHG cards. One thing to be aware of is the $50 United TravelBank credit can not be stacked.
@@wellsw3 We love nature too. We've been to Norway recently where we stopped by Tromso and we really enjoyed our time there even though it was expensive. That's a good tip about the United TravelBank!
