🌞Chase is wasting the CSR's potential. Two simple upgrades could put in on top. 1: Make dining 4X since the CSP and Freedoms also offer 3X dining. That would also make in competitive with the Amex Gold in that category. 2: Add hotel status to the card. Adding Hyatt Discoverist and/or IHG Platinum as a perk of the card would help it compete with the Amex Platinum.

    • @earljaycaoile5071
      @earljaycaoile5071 ปีที่แล้ว +24

Hotel status would step on Chase’s own hotel cards. Higher and/or more multipliers would be better. 4x dining and travel plus groceries would totally kill the Amex Gold and get the Platinum sweating

The gateway is good because its no annual fee, and gives you access to more saver awards. That is a pretty good perk as I was able to book 8 (yes 8!) RT to Peru for 320k points and $500... would have been $7200 out of pocket and without the Gateway card the cheapest flights were coming in at 44k each way... which would have been 704k miles... or about 1cpp...

I think I'd put the IHG cards at A-tier for the 4th night free benefit when booking on points. It really buffs the value of IHG points and have easier threshold than Marriott/Hilton's 5th night free.

🫠 Seeing the Southwest Priority card in S-Tier makes me think about this card more seriously. Thanks to your videos I've come to understand that it's really the only SW personal card that makes sense, and flying out of Austin mostly makes SW my most frequently used airline (domestically that is)... I may need to consider this one when I'm back under 5/24. Great video all around Sebby!

I have the card and I get value from it for sure but calling it S tier and “broken” seems a little off to me. Yeah they “pay you” $30 to keep it and the upgraded boardings are worth $150ish a year IF you use them all but you can really get outsized value and i dont really end up using the card at all as the multipliers are covered by trifecta etc.

IHG premier is easy A Tier if you can take advantage of 4th free night in combination with legacy IHG Rewards Select Credit Card that gives 10% rebate on points.

Hyatt has become our favorite, even though the status given with the card isn't great. We just booked 3 nights in a $800 a night suite in San Antonio, paying 27,000 (9000/night) points for an upgrade, and only $250 a night cash for the suite.
We also booked 4 nights in the Eliza Jane NOLO right before the points valuation change in March, spending 39,000 points for a stay that would have cost us $1500 now. Excellent points value, and in combo with utilizing the Chase Reserve's multipliers to build points quickly and move them over to Hyatt, and only a $95 annual fee, it is the best value out there. We've gotten 2 free night awards this year already and will be getting a 3rd once we hit the "5 brand stays" later this year. And those 3 free nights are in addition to all the free nights we get with regular points earning.
Next I also love my Hilton $450 card for the annual free night, and $250 resort credit, which we always use together. Virgin in Vegas has upgraded us as Diamond members to Ruby tower suites every time we've gone and spending the $250 on food and drinks there is a lot of fun, easily giving us a $500 or more night out for "nothing". I really do like the Diamond status with Hilton.
The AmEx Platinum card comes in last, although not least, as I feel the points are worth a lot less, and we don't live in the US full time so don't get to make use of the "coupons". But I Love the Centurion lounges, and the airline credit, as well as the $200 annual hotel credit, Saks etc, we still save over $2000 a year with this card making the annual fee worthwhile.
These 3 cards make up our travel-trifecta and save us thousands every year while provideding us with a better travel experience overall.

Hi Sebby. Can you please do a video comparison on travel portals like Amex, Chase, and others. To compare price with tax/fee, selection availability, rewards and loyalty. Whether to book entire trip like flights+hotels to get better multipliers on such as Amex or Chase, or book directly for status. For me, I would rather book entire trip on my Platinum to get 5X and get better pricing package for international travel, but hotel loyalty can't be added. Also i will lose out on the benefits from FHR or Hotel Collection Hmmm. Is it me or the cost with taxes/fees is higher on Amex portal when booking separate? Seems that when booking directly with Hilton the taxes/fees is much lower. Love to hear you analysis and Thank you.

Interesting! I feel like Hyatt's footprint weirdly works for Mandy and I while IHG has fallen off. Might also be situational (i.e., have stayed a few times at the Tommy in LA if we need to be in the WeHo area).

@@AskSebby I haven't stayed at Hyatt since 2015, which was the Regency in New Orleans. We have the Regency in Salt Lake booked this winter for a concert, before heading to Park City. Once in awhile they make sense, but I can just buy the points w/o a card.
IHG, I find their beds reliable in comfort at the mid tier level. I am also getting .75 cpp pretty consistently, so if I spend $20K on the card, the earning is almost as lucrative as SPG used to be.

Back in the day, the Red Carpet Club was quite nice in the sense that it was empty and quiet. It was a good place to relax from a long flight. Only way to get access was status or if you bought business class or first class seats or paid the club fees. Ever since credit cards started giving access to the lounges, it got noisy, crowded, and it isn’t anything special anymore. Every Dick, Jane, and Bob can get in. It defeats the purpose of what they were intended…for long distance travelers or status members to refresh and relax before continuing on their journey. It’s quieter at the gate than the lounges now. Also, I think if the Explorer card gives 2 tickets to the regular club, the Quest card should have 2 tickets to the Polaris lounges.
There are lounges that are quite exceptional. For example, the lounge in Hong Kong…pretty nice. The food, the free drinks…feels like a premium club comparably to the lounges in the States.

Would place ihg premier in A tier: 4th night free rather than 5th night in hilton or marriott; $50 united travelbank credit can help offset $89 annual fee; find that ihg points generally are worth more than hilton.
Would move all the ink biz from A to B; the biz version clearly isn’t as good as the personal sapphire version.
United Biz card’s club passes have actually been pretty useful to me, esp United many times has a whole terminal to itself, with only United Club lounge available and walking to other terminals is far (like LAX). It also gives 5K miles if you hold a personal United credit card to help offset the $99 annual fee

IHG Premier's 4th night free and Free night cert is worth about $200 for $99 and Aeroplan's PYB at the same rate as CSR make them A tier. Amazon should be D (If you do not have prime, then you aren't getting any value out of the 3% at Amazon and Whole Foods. And if you aren't spending that much at Amazon, then there are much better cards). Bonvoy Bountiful is an F. $199 for 4x Bonvoy points is terrible. WoH Business card is barely better, say a D tier, only because you can build for status. In either case, you can have the IHG Premier and IhG Premier business for the same price and have two free nights..

🫠lots of time and effort into this video but BA card tier is way off relative to Southwest Priority card. You missed the key money-making benefit of the BA card, its $200 biz and $100 econ credit on US originating flights to or via London booked with the card. You have to book multiple travelers separately on one ways but many of us points folks do anyways (only downside is usual IRROPS on two PNRs and seat assignments aren’t free on BA in advance anymore so increases likelihood you’ll have to pay). It’s also a calendar year max of $600 so easy to track and, for those who look at it this way, potentially “gameable” or overpowered a single annual fee. Given everyone transfers to BA this is actually potentially usable a number of times, especially if booking for family.

🫠 Good stuff! I mostly agree, except for the SW cards as S tier, because I don't like to fly SW. I think Hyatt is the last Chase card I'm going to get for a while (it will put me at 5/24). I'm planning to apply in December. My thinking is to have the maximum amount of time to hit the $15k calendar year spend for the 2nd free night, while having it line up with the anniversary free night. I'm not sure if I'll actually spend $15k/year on the card after the first year, but I want to maximize my options.

I would definitely rank OG freedom higher than flex. Nearly everyone with a CF/CFF has a CFU in their wallet so those other categories do not matter much, but CF being usable in Costco is definitely big.

nah, i still prefer the Flex over the OG freedom because it is a WMC with cell phone insurance. plus the Flex comes with 5% on travel via chase portal, 5% on lyft, & 3mths free on door dash & instacart with reduced fees thereafter.

United miles at 1.25 CPP? When I was looking at UA redemptions last week, it was definitely not that high. More like 0.8 to 1 CPP. Using UR points through Chase travel portal was better at 1.5 CPP (CSR).

Do Chase business cards count towards the same pool of 5/24 as personal cards? Or do personal cards and business cards have separate pools?

    • @rodelmedia6184

Biz: you have to be under 5/24 to be approved. Approval does not add as 5/24.

🫠 Happy 5/24 Day Sebby . I always enjoy these videos. You're not too harsh on Disney at All. There is so much potential with a partnership with Disney that could be further explored. I like this list . I have a few of the "B" cards to round out my setup. I hope the Chase Interns are reading the comments and update the CSR. I've been in the game long enough to receive both a 100k offer on the CSR and CSP and I honestly think the CSP is better situated for me at this point. Essentially the CSP is what I buy mobile groceries with and it maximizes the purchase I make on the CFF. other than that Travel goes on Amex Platinum, Food on the the Amex Gold and catch all on the Venture X. Everyone's needs are different and as you say "YMMV". Ultimately, I appreciate the work you put into these videos as they have allowed many of us to unlock travel at a more affordable price point!
