First Impressions of IHG (After My First Stay)

- These are my first impressions of IHG after completing my first hotel stay. I'll discuss the loyalty program and how I was treated with my current Platinum Elite status, by signing up for the IHG Premier credit card, and I'll go over a few important details about the hotel I stayed with. It's easy to like a hotel chain that makes it extremely easy to earn status and hotel points by holding just one $99 annual fee credit card, leading to a $0 hotel stay for 4 nights. Of course I could earn IHG points by transferring them from Chase or Bilt credit cards, but there isn't good value there. Even though this stay cost $0 out of my pocket, was it worth it?

I think IHG is super underrated, and I think that 4th night free benefit is awesome, so cool to see you taking advantage of it! I typically enjoy seeing as much as I can when I travel and moving from location to location so 4 nights is easier to get that free night that 5 with Hilton. Great video Jacob!
Yeah I try to move around hotels as much as possible while traveling to see everything I can. I don’t know when I’d use a Hilton 5th night free even though it would save a lot of points
I am a Diamond Elite ambassador and have some great stays and upgrades over the last couple years. Had a few issues with a few hotels one in particular but hope all sorted for my next visit. I stay 120 nights a year with them and my second choice is Marriot Bonvoy. Some of the best service is from Holiday Inn and dont need to spend a fortune. Great info.
I love the value I can get from Holiday Inn. Usually they aren't too expensive and most of the time I don't need anything more luxurious than that. 120 nights a year is quite a bit. I hope they continue to treat you well!
I got the same SUB as you did and used it for 4 nights at Kimpton in Huntington Beach California. It was amazing. Right across from the beach.
We got an upgrade for being platinum status and it was fantastic.
I’ve also did 4 other short stays at IGH properties and was upgraded 3 times. The 4th hotel only had standard rooms so it wasn’t possible to get an upgrade.
That’s so cool! That definitely makes me hopeful for the future with upgrades at other IHG hotels. Sounds like the card was worth signing up for!
I like the top floor because it’s quieter if you’re not near an elevator.
That’s a good point but unfortunately we got the room directly next to the elevator haha. Wasn’t the worst because the each floor didn’t have a ton of rooms
I have the IHG and I will be using my IHG 4th night free soon. I also have the hilton gold status too.
The 4th night free is so nice, way better than Hilton’s 5th night free, but the Gold status breakfast is huge

what other youtubers fail to mention is that IHG Platinum lets you stay without any blackout dates unlike Hyatt, Hilton, Mariott
Have you had trouble booking with those other companies? I don't think I've personally found a noticeable difference between these programs in terms of blackout dates
I think IHG varies a bit with how the do the free breakfast. I was at a Holiday Inn recently and they gave us free breakfast for our welcome ammenity.
Yeah, now every time I book an IHG hotel I make sure to check the breakfast policy. It would be nice to get free breakfast for the entire stay instead of one drink at the bar
It sounds like your experience could have been better at your first IHG hotel. I have never stayed at a Hotel Indigo, but I have heard positive reviews of the brand overall. So far, my experience with IHG has been positive. I don't think I've ever been dissatisfied with any of the several IHG Hotels that I have stayed in. I also have the IHG One Rewards Premier card and I plan to keep it because if the annual free night certificate. Usually, I have stayed at Holiday Inn Express properties and I've been perfectly happy with them. I used my free night certificate for 2023 at a Holiday Inn Express in Blacksburg,, VA in August 2023. I was able to book a suite in the hotel, which provided me a very pleasant stay. So far, my favorite IHG brand is the Staybridge Suites brand as I stayed in one for 2 weeks in 2022 and it gave me the best experience overall. My goal for the future is to stay at an InterContinental brand property. However, I do want to stay in a Hotel Indigo and a Kimpton property, also!
Hey it’s good to hear your experience with IHG! Yeah I think things could’ve been a little better but I can’t complain too much. The card is for sure a keeper because of that annual free night. It’s nice to know I’m not canceling it after one year. I’ll be looking for those Holiday Inns because they’re usually the cheapest and I’ll see if I can find any Staybridge Suites. Have fun with those higher end hotels!
But did it have an in room sauna?? And yea, you would think the upgrade would be to have either a bigger room or great view.
Haha it had a sauna at the gym. The bigger room would’ve been nice but at least they gave an upgrade

Hotel Indigos are underrated
I was surprised it was cheaper than the Holiday Inn. It was probably a little bit nicer too
I stayed in a Hotel Indigo in Downtown Denver that was really nice.

No problem! Only paying for 75% of the stay is amazing especially when you find a good points redemption
8th floor in a city is really never a great view, no idea what the skyline looks there.
Yeah I prefer staying on lower floors if the view isn’t that good
