He was never your typical male diva and went through time unnoticed and unknown by far too many. It's nice to see and hear that he's still going in 2022. As a teenager, I stayed up late to watch the Midnight Special. It was great, no glitz or light shows or pre-recorded backing tracks. The musicians played it like it was a club gig, and the results were fantastic.

I used to sing this song like I knew what it was all about. I was in elementary school I think when it came out. One thing I knew was I loved the song, the groove of it.
Mickey Thomas’s voice still stands the test of time. He can even tailor his voice to this song depending on how it is played. He did an acoustic version on Howard sterns show in 1995 and it was amazing. Mickey is in his 70’s now and still sings great today!

First, the album is listenable from top to bottom, front to back. I've owned it on vinyl, cassette and CD. It is actually one of my 20 albums on a desert island picks. I love every song but in truth the weakest one is the first one, called "Lightning Rose" and even that one is very good. The *main* gist of why I ask though is that I'm hoping I can get you to listen to one song in particular first and maybe tell me what you think about it here. It's called "Awakening". To me, it's what they might've sounded like if they were a full time prog band. My main point though is the guitar piece at the outro ...... to me it is *as good* as any other piece of guitar work as any other I've ever heard in the rock genre. My mom fell out of bed during fun time with dad, and she broke two ribs, and my sister and I would tease her and sing "Fooled Around and Fell... in Love!" and she would grab her side and get all Fred Sanford on us, saying "You two are going to kill me." I met Elvin Bishop and his band in Cocoa Beach Florida....after a show I went n partied with them and the party lasted for a whole week ! What a cool cool week ! He called his wife every night and sang to his daughter until she went to sleep ! An amazing man and great band !

My brother had just died before I got to see him the last time, and I sorta lost it getting a CD signed, he asked what I wanted written, and I said; "To Brother Chuck". He was so cool, and said something to get me to pull it back together. He's a fine man. Catch his new stuff! Catch one of his shows, whenever that happens again!
LOVED this song. I was given a ticket to one of his shows in '76.....but couldn't make it. In the 1990s, I won a pair of tix to see him, in our company picnic raffle, but missed him again, because I had to work that night. Finally....in the early 2000s, he happened to be playing at a casino in Reno that I was visiting. And then when he played this song that I'd waited so many years to hear 'live'.....it was as an instrumental. I only found out a few years ago, that he was never the vocalist, but that it was Mickey Thomas......& that was from seeing the video on TH-cam....LOL.

He played the club i worked in in Tulsa the same week she and his ex was murdered.It was a way he could deal with it.He played the club twice. He was a very nice man. I ran spot lights.
