You should watch the live Midnight Special version. It's amazing how easily Mickey Thomas seems to find singing like that - relaxed, smiling. There are interviews on TH-cam where he explained that he was with a gospel group and the lead guy taught him how to sing in that style. Also, he had heard Elvin play the song years earlier but Elvin had never been interested in working it up for a recording. Years later, they were making a record, and the producer wanted just one more song. Mickey said, "What about that old 'Fooled Around and Fell in Love' song?" The rest is history.
I was 16...this was Drive-in music with your lady... soulful...no color, ethnicity, or class...just smooth stuff...as a boomer it's fun watching your reactions...wish y'all could have experienced the 70s...my generation is pretty critical of today's music...this is why...it moves you...peace y'all ♥️
This is one of my all-time favorite songs. It's SO well crafted and produced, and then when you hear Elvin's guitar work, and Mickey's GREAT vocals, it's just perfect.
Glad y'all enjoyed this one. It's a great song, and Elvin Bishop is phenomenal. Mickey Thomas shines on another lead vocal with the band Jefferson Starship. Check out the song "Jane", which was a few years after this one.
56 year old drummer here saying thank you for an extended or maybe album version of this song! As much money as I spent on vinyl back then (whole lot of lawn mowing), I thought I had heard every version of the gems from that era. I bought the 45 to this classic - I still have & play it from time to time on my old Ludwig kit, but I have GOT to find this version! A great hit & as always, a great reaction
I’m a 56 year old drummer as well who played Ludwig for decade’s before I switched to Pearl in the early 2000’s. You sound a LOT like me, God love ya good brother!
I have to say.........I heard this on the radio SO many times that the intricacies kind of faded into the past...........thanks for revitalizing this for me. Excellent piece
Not flute.. it’s the steel guitar that Elvin is on.. he rips it and makes his guitar cry!! 🎉😂 love it!! I grew up in the 70’s & it brings back good summertime memories.. lyrics are fire 🔥
One of my favorite guitar solo’s ever. Elvin is referenced in Charlie Daniels band song The South Is Gonna Do It Again. “ Elvin Bishop sitting on a bale of hay, he ain’t good lookin’ but he sure can play”
As always….great reaction, guys! Love it when younger generations appreciate songs I grew up with. If this blew your minds….their Live version is top shelf, brothers. Elvin crushes his solo even more on it….and Mickey put the “stank” on his lead vocals. You all need to check out his years with Jefferson Starship and Starship….he wailed on some tunes too. Keep up the great work…Aloha🤙🏾🎼🤘🏾
Elvin is a hell of a guitar player. He played guitar for many years with the white boy blues masters in Chicago. Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Michael Bloomfield.
That wasn't quite the way Micky got to sing the song. True, he wasn't the lead singer, but at a party, Mickey was singing free lance, screwing around, and this came out, so it was a *JOKE SONG* and one day many months later Mickey was like, let try that song out, Elvin was like OK, and Micky basically ad libbed the last half of the song, creating a full song out of a half song and Elvin was like, hell, lets record it. This song was on *Guardians of the Galaxy*
Funny you said Mickey was "laying it on the line". That is the name of a Starship song sung by Mickey Thomas. Jane is the song to do, though. He is from Cairo, Georgia.
Man, this takes me way, way back, to those looooong hot Summer days during the school holidays, when I took my trannie (transistor radio) to the swimming pool for the day, when you were so young, the Summer lasted forever.
Love this song since I first heard it ages ago. I also thought Elvin Bishop was on vocals .Then I found out Mickey Thomas was the vocalist and became an instant fan and followed him to Jefferson Starship. He has a phenonemal voice.
There are so many great but unknown and under-rated guitarist out there that so many people are not aware of. Elvin Bishop is just one of them. A beautiful song too by the way.
1976 was quite a year...this of course, but so MUCH other really good stuff....every genre and a few new ones! Every time I hear this, I am just Like you guys, just smiling ear to ear!
Mickey Thomas sang back-up in Bishop's band but when it came to this song Bishop felt Thomas' voice better suited it. He was right and history was made. Thomas later joined Jefferson Starship replacing Marty Balin. Thomas made his debut with Starship on the album Freedom at Point Zero with the song Jane. If you were blown away by Thomas' voice here you will be placed in a coma after hearing it on Jane.
Micky Thomas voice is so underrated, he's actually one of the best! Check out his work with Starship...songs like ... Lay it on the line, No way out,Jane, Find your way back and others.
I believe the beautiful ghostly sounds behind the music are from a combination of feedback and volume control, a part in this song (as well, his solo!) and technique I've always loved. Thx for choosing it and the always helpful background info :)
The melody is fire and Mickey Thomas's voice is superb but I forgot how amazing Elvin's guitar solo is. That organ though is how I identify with this song.
Great reaction, guys! I have said this before and I'll say it again: Nick has the best "stank face" of all reactors on TH-cam, when he is feeling moved by -- and enjoying -- a song! 🙂... Keep up the great work and Happy Holidays! ... Mickey Thomas has a great voice, but the best songs by Jefferson Starship (the second iteration of Jefferson Airplane) featured Marty Balin as lead singer ("Miracles" was a No.3 pop song in 1975 and "With Your Love" reached No. 12 in 1976 and "Count on Me" reached No. 8 in 1978). With Mickey Thomas as lead singer, Jefferson Starship and Starship had hits with "Find Your Way Back" (1980, No. 29) and "We Built This City" (1985, with co-lead vocals by Grace Slick from "White Rabbit") and "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" (1987, also with Grace Slick), the latter two of which were No. 1 pop songs (heavy emphasis on "pop").
Ya gotta watch the live version on Burt Sugarmans Midnight Special! Kids back then (I was one) used to watch that after Saturday Night Live (back when it was funny) to see our favorite bands and new music. We were soooo lucky!!
Congrats, Bruce! You've won the $30 gift card to COLDEST! Please reach out to us via email or social media & we'll be happy to send you the prize! Merry Christmas🎄
That guitar solo is DIRTY

Makes sense. Always thought Mickey sang this like a blind, Mississippi church boy.
Saw Elvin Bishop two days ago. Still smokin’!

Mickey Thomas is a criminally underrated singer.
Generational 👍🤘🤘
@@obh4197 and Elvin Bishop is a criminally underrated guitarist
Agree grew up in 60s and 70s watching Don Kirchners Midnight Special late Saturday night memories Thank you 😊 🙏 😀
Yep!! Great with Starship!!
He's a well-known artist! Stop saying they're underrated to make yourself seem superior 🙄
The live version on Midnight Special is great.
You gotta watch it guys. You'll love it even more.
Absolutely!!!!
It is indeed👍
Definitely not to be missed!
Yes! Gotta check this one out guys! th-cam.com/video/Ev8SibkJhNg/w-d-xo.html
Love Mickey Thomas's vocals and Elvin Bishop's guitar solo is fire.
When you watch the live version you see how effortless Mickys vocals are, talented dude!
Arguably the most UNDERATED singer in R & R!
This is one of my all-time favorite songs. It's SO well crafted and produced, and then when you hear Elvin's guitar work, and Mickey's GREAT vocals, it's just perfect.
Mickey is 73 now and Elvin is 80 and they still do this song.
hard to believe huh...time truly flies... lordy lordy
Awesome memories ❤️ ♥️ 😊😊

Another stellar choice, gentlemen. The guitar solo could cut glass. And that Mickey vocal could sweep up the pieces… Like there would be any left!
I have to say.........I heard this on the radio SO many times that the intricacies kind of faded into the past...........thanks for revitalizing this for me. Excellent piece
You guys will love Mickey Thomas vocals on JANE and also FIND YOUR WAY BACK by Jefferson Starship, great jams
Jane is a JAM!!!! and yes his voice is amazing!!
both great hits!
actually sarah is the better
Elvin's guitar is a Gibson ES-345 he calls "Red Dog". You can see it on the live performance of this song on The Midnight Special.
Mickey Thomas was a backup singer for Elvin Bishop & he got tapped to do this song. Needless to say, the rest is history. ;o)
Love this one!
Bishop is an awesome guitar player.
Sexy guitar solo. Incredible vocals. Solidly compelling keyboard and drums.
Mickey Thomas deserves some research. He's had other hits. Great voice.
And Marty B...

One of my favorite guitar solo’s ever. Elvin is referenced in Charlie Daniels band song The South Is Gonna Do It Again. “ Elvin Bishop sitting on a bale of hay, he ain’t good lookin’ but he sure can play”
The radio version often cuts the solo short.
This is my favorite video on your channel!
You guys have great taste in old classical masterpieces of music. Been there as a music fanatic. Thanks for sharing.
That guitar solo is so sweet, just too pretty, paired with Mickey's voice. yes, fire. FIRE.
Saw these guys live the year they released this album. Tremendous tavern band. They rock. Like your channel. Scott
The singing and the music are amazing
WOW!!!
Miracles, Baby... Miracles
YAAS one of my favs ❤️🔥
You made me fool around and fall in love with your reactions!
Y'all need to turn up the volume, so we can hear this man's voice!
You know the guy singing that was a roadie for the band and backup singer who stepped up to sing that 🤙🏻
Charlie Daniels sang about Elvin, "He ain't good-lookin', but he sure can play!". Thanks for your reaction.
A definite skating rink song
Oh Yeah!!! My dad played this one often when I was a kid. Nice stuff here!
Y'all adorable 😎
Love this song!
Wife Speaking....Damn, Ty..when you said "That is Dirty" I had a total Eargasm..!!! and I also felt it "somewhere else"😷!!!!
Classic song. Mickey Thomas had the perfect voice for this song. Awesome!
Mickey Thomas is a BEAST. Glad you got to this one. I love Mickey Thomas. You need to listen to the song No Way Out and the song Sarah by Starship.
Mickey has a stellar voice! Love your reactions.

One of the great pop/ rock songs. Fabulous.
Elvin is a hell of a guitar player. He played guitar for many years with the white boy blues masters in Chicago. Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Michael Bloomfield.
If you search TH-cam "Mickey Thomas Howard Stern" and you see Mickey singing this song as a guest and he STILL has the voice years later.
Jefferson Starship - Find Your Way Back has great vocals also

Not a big Mickey Thomas Starship fan, but this song is legendary. I was in Jr High and it never gets old. One of the greats guys. 😁❤️
Simply an awesome song and vocal performance
The 60’s and 70’s had all the talent.
Funny you said Mickey was "laying it on the line". That is the name of a Starship song sung by Mickey Thomas. Jane is the song to do, though. He is from Cairo, Georgia.
One of my favorite guitar solos
Every jukebox (google it if ya have to! ) in the southeast had this on there..Thanks, Great react!
Mickey Thomas! Wow what a song!
Mickey Thomas is a great vocalist. ❤
Just tune in, and recognized that’s Louisville skyline behind you…lived there 40 years. Always loved this song, assume vocals and instruments! Thanks
They are the GOAT.
I am so glad I am a child of the 70s I got all this and life was f***** great!
I watch a crime show once that showcased a young woman who was murdered, her mom was the woman Elvin wrote this song about!
Please review more classic rock from the 1970's. Great channel. Cheers from Philly
i saw him play this live
yep, I agree, JANE.
Was a huge hit then. We were all singing along at the time

Live Rais'n Hell is my favorite Elvin Bishop record, one of the best live albums around
It's even better live
Y’all *must* watch the live Midnight Special. You will absolutely howl at the outfits and moves they are throwing around ✌🏻🤟🏻🤘🏻

My colors may not rep the blue like you guys(RED all the way), but have enjoyed the reviews for over a year! TY!

Thanks guys you knew who sang this beautiful song and who wrote it classic ❤❤😅😊😊
Much better than the radio version. I would sell my firstborn to see Elvin play this down on Beale Street.
