+mountaindog1 What would you recommend for a Type 1 Diabetic regarding intraworkout carbs or insulin optimization? Are carbs still necesary if you have an elevated blood glucose and can simply take fast acting insulin?
I love this video sir! I need to learn some stress management methods desperately. I was beaten and robbed last year, which left me very mentally screwed up. I needed facial reconstruction, suffered severe nerve damage and am almost homeless due to the financial pains it cause my family. My stress levels are insane unfortunately
CLIFF'S NOTES FOR THE BUSY 1: Nutrition - nutrient timing around workouts. 1 hour preworkout: small meal of 25g protein, 25g carbs, 10g fat. During workout: Essential Amino Acids & a fast carb such as Cluster Dextrin. Post Workout: eat a full meal within an hour, doesn't need to be fast-acting. 2: Sleep - get a full night's sleep, develop a routine that aligns with circadian rhythms 3: Stress: consistently high cortisol levels causes the body to use amino acids & protein for energy rather than glucose. Employ stress reducing strategies such as removing negative people from your life.
@@mountaindog1 John, thank you so much for the great content! As a natural bodybuilder over 40, do you have any additional tips for recovery when training in the evening (6pm) and then training again early the next morning (5:30am)? I compete in figure and train 5 days/week. These two sessions are close together just due to schedule limitations. I follow your advice on meal timing before, during and after workouts, and the evening meal in between these sessions includes 30g carbs. Maybe it's due to age, but even if I can get a nap in post-workout after the morning session, I still find myself dragging by mid-day. Should I add more fats after the morning session? Would appreciate any insight you can provide. 💪
@@tinalarsen3267 have some fats and slow digesting form of protein (casein, milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc) before bed. Get adequate sleep and just work on keeping a steady blood sugar level. You can also add intra workout nutrition like dextrin and EAAs. You just want a fast digesting carbs and amino acids/protein. Then post workout, again have some fast digesting carbs and protein. Fat and some form of casein protein before bed. Eating some kind of fat with carbs will also slow down digestion and provide slower, steadier blood sugar levels. Or just have fat and protein and no carbs so the fats are your energy source and they keep blood sugar levels steady. It's important to note everyone's body reacts differently to different types of food such as different sources of carbs or fat. You can get a blood glucose meter, test strips and lancets for about 20 bucks (total for everything) at Walmart. Write down and track levels after different sources of fats and carbs and fasting levels in the am! This way you know for sure how you are affected and you can customize your diet to fit you!
No ,#3 should be more rest dayz ,im studying to be a personal trainer and in the book it says #1 way to overtrain is to not enough rest dayz , account people who working out and not bs.If u a natural and work out more than 1 hour id say rest on the 6th day ,then continue your workout schedule
@@Andre25167 i'm a natural bodybuilder and i use 3 days on one day off and two days on one day off, and it work perfectely with me, and i train my large muscle group such (legs & back) when i have the next day as rest day, But i'm really stressfull man on my own, im really a nervous man, any small shit make me stressfull, sometimes i take magnesium as a supplement on the night just to sleep and reduce stress, if u have some advises let me know what to do
Shed a tear for your son mdog. Hugs to you little guy. I know it does make it any easyer but your dad really helped me out without even knowing I exist with his vids. Wish he was still here. Again so sorry you lost your dad so early. Hugs from sweden.
I experienced the most muscle gains during the period in my life when I had no stress. Not a coincidence. Stress will kill your sleep quality and can impact your eating habits in a negative way. Gotta control your stress.
The problem at least to a Scientist is not the Stress per say but just your attitude on it. Look at Jerry Buss could give a damn about crappy franchise with rigged Championships.
I just wanted to say that I follow your advice and I can't speak highly enough how you've helped not just myself but so many others. R.I.P. John. Your advice and videos will live on forever!
The relentless stress Monday - Friday where I lived my life at 100MPH was killing my gains. One thing I have learned from The Covid shutdown is that i do not miss one second of that life. I wasn't enjoying it, I wasn't getting good rewards from it, and it was also making it impossible for me to train on Saturday due to physical and mental tiredness. I think a lot of us will have a new outlook on how we live our lives once the economy starts opening up again. That includes how we look after our body and mind.
I have been to the gym for almost 2 weeks now. I did only running and other conditioning exercises before but now at 24 years of age I finally decided to give it a try. Your videos are helping me a lot! Thanks John!
Damn…. 😓 We miss you John. I hope of Johns family is doing well. You really are in our thoughts. John really did leave us as a legend. He will be remembered forever for his spirit, true kindness, as message to humanity. ❤️ 🙏🏽
Every video i watch of you i leave a thank you comment! i wish you were still with us ! so many questions id ask ! Thank you for these videos they are a blessing!
Rest In Peace John. You are sorely missed. We learned much from your videos, one thing I always respected you for was including your beautiful family. God Bless you and yours.
big hi from sydney australia , really enjoy watching your vids . thanks for taking the time to make them , your helping me get my head around the finer details and science behind it all .
Thank you John. Again advice to be used. I sleep with a c pap machine. I stop breathing 54 times a hour. Since I have started to train 9 times a week with a proper diet and using your valuable advice and training methods that number has come down to 47 within 2 months so again thank you John
Tbh… That marketing was the best so far that I've seen. People hype about it and stuff and never use it that we can see it. You actually used it. Also the tips are good to know!
🔴 Another very helpful and wise talk John .This one should be seen by every sportiv people . Recovering is the key . Top recovery and less training provides a better progression than strong training with only 6 hours of sleep , I did experiment this for years . Guys , pay attention to this video ! Thx John , God bless you .👍
A bit of great general life advice in this one! Eat well, sleep well, cut out stressful people. Treat yourself well and your body will reflect it. Great stuff, JM!!
Even though I love to keep my beard, but loved the marketing. By the way John, there is something called bidet. It exists in a portable and fixed form, it basically cleans butts with water (imagine filling it with warm water in the winter..) try one, you won't regret it! As always, impeccable advice, you're awesome!
Great information I’m working in managing my sleep since I work graveyard shift aiming for 6 hours of sleep and work out as soon as i up. just subscribed to your channel great videos would be scrolling through them and find more useful information
I have sleep apnea that I have been treating for 2 years now. My over night test for it showed I was not going into REM sleep because my soft pallet would collapse as I was going into REM. This of course caused choking followed by an adrenalin release, bad for the heart. 2 years ago I had no energy for working out or even weekend projects. Sleep is king in my mind now that I have a CPAP.
many medications can cause sleep apnea, my antidepressant did it, glad i quit it. You Should also loose fat to reduce it, but you probably know that already.
thank you very much for your most valuable advice on recovery I had no idea that much goes on during your sleep process. I listen to this segment several times to have better understanding. it was very educational and again I thank you for Your Excellence information!
Great information here man. You really went the extrasmile more than most people do with these recovery videos. I really think the part on stress is important to talk about
Big thing for recovery when it comes to sleep is get some blue light glasses. I recommend Swanwicks. Also turn off your phone and wifi at night or move it away from your room.
Can I toss in the idea of cold showers? I was taking showers as cold as it would go for 5 min an hour or so before bed works wonders for recover and sleep. The cold therapy helped muscle soreness and released norepinephrine which helps reinforce neural pathways. I’m butchering it but Dr Rhonda Patrick has a great podcast on that.
I started watching this guy a week before his death, SUSCRIBED. then BOOM heard he past away and was like DAMMMM! He was very knowledgeable in all aspects, training, nutrition timing, recovery, he was so awesome, My #1 FITNESS TH-camR.
Great video as Always John! Thank you! It's really funny how some people just don't weigh in the importance of sleep when it comes to recovery. Partying all night after a heavy workout etc. If I don't get my 9-10hrs I feel absolutely wasted, especially after having done a heavy workout. Well well... Keep it coming John! I look forward to more all-things-training. I really appreciate these short vids you have been posting lately. Could be thoughts on volume, training splits etc too. I'll be trying PPL soon. Looking forward to it.
