- In today's video we are taking a look at a little device called the Leap Motion. You guys may have heard of this device. It came out in 2012 and it can be used to detect hand and finger movements and use a variety of Gestures to complete different actions. This device is truly amazing as it allows for Hand and Finger tracking on pretty much every VR headset. In fact, I made a video showcasing just that in the past. That's not all though, this device allows for Air Gestures to be used on Windows. But you already knew all that, the real question is, is it still in active development? Has this device evolved at all throughout the last few years and what can you do with it? That is what you will find out in today's video. I hope you enjoy it :D

I had this several years ago when it first came out. I used it with my 2011 iMac. All of this was really futuristic at the time… it still doesn’t sound old but definitely not as crazy as before haha
Mines been in cupboard for years. Was looking good for VR.
Was hoping to find out "HOW" to use it to control Windows. Is this one of those things that are just supposed to be obvious cause all I got was how cool it is that it CAN do it.

You could watch the vid of michael reeves "I build a surgery robot" he used it to control the robot and it's kind of fun.
I've had it in the drawer for 6 years :D . For a while, I used it as a supplement to games. It would take more applications

Excuse me, what software are you talking about for setting up custom gestures. I recently bought leap motion but the only thing so far i can manage is more the cursor and click. There's not much info on this device regarding the potential of it. I appreciate the reply, thanks for the video

Cutting edge tech takes time to develop and gain acceptance.. So many technologies have laid by the wayside due to lack of future investment.. It's been 8 years, and this is the first i've heard of it, from a tech blogger. It must have gotten a few blurbs early on and then went back into obscurity. Now it's back and sad to say, it's still lackluster in what I'm seeing thus far from this demonstration video. VR is not the killer app that was promised, 10 years on. Tech like these are expensive stopgaps at best until truly usable applications and human interfaces are achieved.

Just to clarify, you're running V2 pre-orion software? Really want to use this for dev in UE4 but feel like installing V4 and V2 concurrently would cause some issues.

why not? It should work, bc HP Reverb is made in cooperation with Windows and Valve

I bought it in 2014. It's good but most of the stuff you described works only in theory. It's really inaccurate to register anything other than general hand gesture.

I actually completely agree with you and that's the only downside to it while I was gaming. But while I'm say, in VRChat and I keep my hands within it's view it actually works really well :)
