    Update! I saw some people can't get the hand tracking update yet. According to Meta, the hand tracking 2.0 update is a gradual rollout. Some people got it in v39, some in v40. So sadly, it's kinda random when it will drop, sorry []-/

      I need help with hand tracking. I want to test a few games that I know have hand tracking but they only work through the "unknown sources" section. When I launch them it says I NEED to turn on controllers before continuing even though I know it works without them. I need help on how to bypass/fix it. Its not the game's fault. It has hand tracking enabled.

    Personally, i think it's the best way for games like half life:alyx that you do all your activity with hand tracking but have a controller in your pocket and wear it when you want to shoot, like what you really do in reality with gun

    • @ianmiller6040
      @ianmiller6040 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Or have a "virtual controller" in the style of the Quest 2 controllers that you hold in your (real) hand for the finer movements and button-clicking. That could be cool.

    • @SnrubSource
      @SnrubSource 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      i think the best way would be to have something like a mix of the index controller and hand tracking 2.0.
      - Strapped onto your hand so you don't have to actively hold it
      - Provides haptic feedback
      - Has a thumbstick for movement (swinging your arms around to walk is hit or miss with hand tracking and just annoying)
      - Cameras do the hand tracking

    • @ianmiller6040
      @ianmiller6040 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've heard that there's already a lot of people who use sign languages on VRChat. There's even avatars specially made to accommodate more hand shapes than non-signing players need, although I haven't been able to test them for myself since I don't have a vr headset yet. Still, hand tracking that can detect more gestures than say, a Quest 2 controller can is still an awesome improvement. If (in the near future when I have a Quest 2) I can put down my controllers and have an ASL conversation, ohh that's exciting! Even more now I can't wait to be able to meet up with other people and learn ASL.

    Handtracking might be a solution to a problem I have when playing FitRX. It happens often that in the heat of the fight, I push a button and the game pauzes, which often results that my uninterrupted streak is broken. With handtracking there is no button to push. The armbands can replace the haptic feedback. Maybe just wrap them around the hand and it makes it even more realistic. I'm all in....

    This fantastic! I do simracing in vr, and use the Oculus Rift S and have to keep recentering my view in the car every time I take the headset to either go and grab a drink from the kitchen. The only way to recenter the view in the headset is to use the rifts controllers, which is a pain. I have changed the batteries every couple days in the controllers. If I want to take my vr set anywhere, the controllers have to come with me everywher a then. The hand detection would also change how your experience with other sim, like PC Building Simulator.

    3:33 I kinda expected that... well as support for Q1 in general seems to degrade, I guess I need to upgrade soon.
    3:58 My experience with that was awful TBH. It constantly would fall back into hand tracking mode even with the controllers in my hands and therefor unintentionally trigger pinch clicks occasionally, especially within Virtual Desktop. I'd use it if it didn't have such issues though, but I also might guess the Q2 does a better job here as the tracking in general is better with that more recent model.
    5:19 That would suck, no matter how good hand tracking gets. Games will always rely on controllers simply because they allow for more complexity. I don't want them to be an extra upgrade like paying extra for a friggen wall brick when buying an Apple device (which I don't). "Oh, you wanna charge it? That's just another $100!". Anything should be feature complete out of the box.

    Unfortunately, the tracking isn't yet reliable for signing. There are some very common hand configurations that the headset simply does not recognize. Also, some signs require anchoring your hand on some part of your body (chest, forehead, chin etc) and the quest simply cannot track that. I still think the tech is a game changer for the hearing impaired, but it still a long way's off.

    One game that could use it perfectly is FNAF: help Wanted, like, it'd be really helpful!
    Grabbing fuses to repair foxy, using full palm go close the door in FNAF 1 and use the light in FNAF 2!

    I don't understand why they're aren't gloves with icons, such as squares, triangles and circles, to assist in tracking. Or perhaps even gloves that have small leds. Seems like a simple solution

    As a sign language user, the 1.0 hand tracking is pretty buggy and lacking. It doesn't track all hand shapes and movements, so I'm interested in how 2.0 will be. Really looking for a company to truly give us an amazing hand tracking remote/camera for VR!

    I feel like controllers, like the Index controllers, are actually better because instead of just grabbing the air, it actually feels like you are holding a real thing. It feels incredibly weird to hold a gun with hand tracking but with controllers, it feels normal.

    They'd need to add some kind of finger tip or ring type peripherals I think, no haptic feedback is no good. Glad they are continuing to work on the tech though ;)

    I don't think hand tracking works all too well for me. but it's probably because my headset has a general tracking issue. I'm thinking about just getting a new one and selling my current one since this one just really sucks when it comes to the visual glitches.
