hmmm Benny building a 2J and Skid factory? Could we see both channels at drag week?
Correct with the 02 sensor plug. IS200 has it underneath the passo seat. Fun for first timers if you forget to put the bung back in properly to seal up the hole in the chassis, you'll more than likely spend a good couple weeks with fumes entering the cabin before realising the mistake that's been made. Like I did.... 🤣🤣
The only hybrid I can think of that would make sense is the Toyota Crown Comfort taxi with a 1G-FE hybrid

@@Low760 The Cresta itself an IRS to live axle swap, so my guess is he'll probably just do that again. I could be wrong but a RWD capable hybrid that iirc he imported and also doesn't have room for AC after the swap and a turbo feels like a pretty narrow field

You have me looking at GS300’s here in the US. They run anywhere from $2500-$6000 mostly. Not too bad considering the cost of cars these days.

Plenty of people dream about getting the cheap 2j from a luxo barge and doing something like you are. Ya editing including the snapped blade and admitting you dont know what some bits are makes it all the more relatable. Keep it up .

My guess for the project car is a newer model crown hybrid like a gws204 or something around that era. At 13:40 you said also the cars factory Toyota loom would mostly be retained, so I’m guessing it’s a Toyota
So my guess is a crown hybrid 🤷♂️
Definitely Toyota, but could be any GRX, UZS or GWS model. So many ended up with the hybrid system, it's hard to work out. 🤔
Yea I don’t see that happening, I just pulled one apart, and the tech involved in that to make a solid axle and run a jz with the hybrid system would be near impossible, the hybrid system uses a specific transmission/ cvt and there is no torque converter, no starter motor either.
Could be a Toyota ProSuc lol
I think what makes sense is a 90/00s crown hybrid taxi (not legit hybrid with battery’s but more for the budget cheaper fuel economy) with the 1g or the 1jz fse hybrid.

Spewing about the center sumps being rare i just sold one market place for $300 with oil pick up and dipstick cause i needed a front sump for my conversion! I should have put it up for more money!!
I just did this exact thing what a classic should of watched this first would of probably made it easier. Ended up scoring a crashed gs300 with 130k for $800
13:40 so it will be a Toyota platform. Always fun to see a new project and have a known direction for it. I like that you mention the interchange with your other vehicles to decrease the amount of spares you'd have to bring with you. That is along the same lines when I've decided what components to use for a couple of my conversions and one would try and use very commonly available parts like Ford 8.8 rear ends, GM ignition components etc.

Its puzzling as they are essentially pouring in. Its not like they are hard to find anymore. 3800 last year, 5500 this year. Same JDM shop who had them for 500 years ago.

Having a parts car is a great way of recovering your money. Once you get the bits you need. Sell off other parts to make some money back. When you have sold most of it. Haul it in to the scrap yard and get the last few bucks out of it that you can. If you are into the car for the right price. Then you should be able to turn a profit parting it out. Cars and trucks are worth more in parts then whole most of the time.

Yeah that "Damp Rid" is a great product actually if you keep up with it. It's essentially got a powder in it or little "balls" made up of a desiccant. The powder or crystals or balls start off dry and they literally suck the moisture out of the air. They harder up once filled with moisture and then they can still absorb a bit more, which then turns into the water dripping into the bag. But once they are full of water, they need to be changed. So if you keep changing out to a fresh bag (or bucket they also make) you can actually do a really good job of keeping the moisture low and fighting off mold. A lot of people, myself included, use these type of products in our bathrooms to keep the mold away from sheetrock and walls where humidity turns into water droplets on the wall (from hot showers). They do a great job if you replace them regularly.
Damp rid was awesome. Had a car that had the carpets and underlay soaked due to rains/flooding. Chucked a bucket in there until I could strip the seats and carpets. Dehumidifier in the car 24 hours with the damp rid, checked electrical connectors. Job done.
1st time we have seen outside of that prepped room!
Always assumed it was a shed at Ben's house!

Iron Chef had some Toyota Crown Hybrid Taxis for sale, no longer available for some reason.
We did purchase the car via Iron chef however they sourced it directly from Auction, not their stock cars.

I think the connector on the PS pump is a pressure switch to bump up the idle when the pump gets loaded.
I'm not sure if you guys have the Lexus CT, but that would be an awesome hybrid to swap.
It's definitely a Prius coming from Japan.

I miss my old supra gz, I payed $5k for my engine in 2017 lol, $3k for a built A345 with landcruiser bits and aristo bits ect, greddy T76-33D, $2000? hks 272 cams and headstuds, expensive $5k fuel system, haltech ps2000, b03b diff and big chromoly axles, gj tailshaft, pwr coolers, was an awesome car for something I dailied and never went down the 1/4 mile with, which is why I miss it lol got my money back from it even before covid so I can't be too upset

Nice to see you acknowledge that it’s not always best to do everything yourself. So many people in the comments who think that if you didn’t mine the ore and forge all the components yourself in your garage then it doesn’t count.
If you’re having fun driving it it counts. It doesn’t matter who built what parts of it.
there is still an element of satisfaction you get from doing things yourself at the end of the day. There is a reason people respect built not bought. There is nothing more deflating being into custom work ect you ask the owner and they have a low idea of how something they own was done.
If you have the time and the skill do it yourself every day of the week ;)
@@tristanmeadows for sure there’s that satisfaction, although not everyone gets that satisfaction (and for me the satisfaction doesn’t always outweigh the pain of certain tasks). And I do think it seems strange that someone would get a custom car and not even know what’s in it. I don’t really understand that.

In terms of trying to recover costs, how much time and effort do you typically go to during a build?
CATs I get, particular factory wheels I get but other stuff, do you bother with glass, lights or body panels? Its the yahoos showing up and offering a tenth of what you ask, which was/is already more than a good deal and they don't have to do any of the removal work...
I normally just scrap the shell after a week. After that point the space is worth more than the car.

The first hybrids that come to mind are the 2013+ Lexus IS, 2005+ GS and 2006+ LS

You should be able to keep the air conditioning provided it’s not a dry sump. Source: 2JZ owner. It’s entirely normal to reach the kind of power levels you are while keeping air conditioning. However, every dry sump system I’ve ever heard of for the 2J uses the air con pulley as a drive. The internet says the factory oil pump should be ported for 1000hp but doesn’t have to be, but the engine won’t last as long as a dry sump.
His problem with air con was fitting it in with the intercooler required to support his power level, not the power level itself.
@@aaronkratzmann9703 plenty of guys on the Supra forums above 1000hp with air conditioning… There’s a 1000hp aristo in town with air con too. Their intercooler seem to be sufficient. I’m planning an 800hp build for my SC, but it must retain air con, it shouldn’t be an issue. As soon as you feel you need to go dry sump though is when air con has to be deleted ->that happens anywhere from 800-1500hp+ with these motors, but it’s different for every application.
The front end of the project car is pretty slim so the intercooler + aircon condenser.

GBS12 Crown mild hybrid with 1G-FE stock. Comes with a solid rear axle so makes sense it might prove an easy conversion.

So, I'm not gonna google search and use my own research. I have a feeling it's an X chassis that originally had a GR or UZ motor in it. Too many model choices from the Mark X to Crown Majesta to choose from. I'm probably wrong as hell about it too. 😅
Solid axle though, budget. Hybrid may not mean electric.
@@Low760 The hybrid system on Toyota's like this are the electric drives the front wheels and the motor does the rear, giving them "AWD" capability, as indicated by all the JDM auction log sheets. 👍

Probably not a Toyota Corolla Fielder/Axio as I don't think a 2JZ will fit, but they are JDM, they are hybrids, and are allowed to be imported into Oz...so recent gen Toyota Crown?
Prices,.... I'm chasing a Jeep V6 to drop in to a Valiant for a light weight corner carving toy... Price second hand from specialist wrecker, $4K. Same engine but PickAPart, $250. All engines from places selling to the Enthusiast Market have jacked up prices, be it 2J, Barra, LS, or Jeep.
Are the Th400's getting harder to find there as well lately.
I'm in Detroit, and usually have to look around to find them now. About $250 per core US now

@@WrenFJ They unfortunately are of little to no use to those who want power due to the head design, and are not widely available in Australia due to our import laws ont allowing lower powered versions of cars (like the ones FSE engines came in)
I want to put a more powerful motor in my base 1L Cobalt to make a sleeper. Any ideas on a motor that would fit and be simple? I was thinking a 1.4L if I can get one but then I am just replacing a turd with a turd.

WOW did not know cats were worth that much. I assumed you'd only be getting a bit over scrap metal prices for them. Makes so much sense that people are racking them now.
Totally dependent on year as far as I know. When they were fairly new, they were created with loads of precious metals in them. Later years use far less as they worked out how to do it with more normal metals and an incredibly thin coating of the pricey stuff.
