2JZ-GE vs 2JZ-GTE: Which One is Really Better?

    There's pretty much no reason to choose a GE over a GTE other than cost. A GE engine is going to much cheaper to buy secondhand compared to a GTE. A turbo swapped GE has a lot of potential with the right modifications and if you're trying to save money a turbo GE is definitely the way to go.

    I have a 92 sc300, same lower end as the 2jzgte making it very strong. Non vvti 2jzge now with arp head studs and a 1.5mm tomei headgasket and valve seals. Don’t assume you can slap a turbo on the early ge’s without some modifying. The stock ecu can only handle 7 psi and beyond that it cuts fuel and kills the car to protect itself. I’m running a 93 aristo ecu (2jzgt ecu) and my ge handles 14psi like no problem.
    Don’t just buy a vvti 2j thinking you can throw 14 psi at it, do it right the first time.

    • @72Dexter72Manley72
      @72Dexter72Manley72 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are correct. But people can buy a standalone set-up and control timing and fuel so much better. I'm using a crank trigger wheel and sensor on the front of my engine.
      I did this and run mine at 15psi off the gate. Stock GE block. GTE head gasket to lower compression. Bigger injectors. Turbo, GE Turbo manifold, front facing GE intake manifold.

    A closer comparison would be the early GEs non vvti to the GTE as they are virtually the same minus the oil squirters, turbo and forward facing intake manifold, and head gasket. Everything else is virtually identical. The vvti GE is still a fantastic and reliable engine that can make good power sure it doesn't live up to the GTE or it's non vvti variant to higher boost and power outputs. They all have a purpose and an overall great engine. Majority of 2J owners won't have the cash to crank out 1000+ hp and be able to keep up with maintenance and repairs. 5-600 is plenty for daily street driving. I'm a proud owner of an SC non vvti GE and had the vvti is300. Both were stock never let me down. Planning on building the SC up a little but keep most of it's reliability

  • @devil2jz500
    @devil2jz500 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Well... That's a good video, BUT, you forgot to mention that the GE non VVTI head (earlier ones with Distributor) have the Biggest Intake and Exhaust ports among ALL of them. The GE vvti (the one with skinny rods and weak pistons) has significant smaller intake ports. The GE non vvti is the best flowing head, but since it gas a distributor nobody wants it. What I did on mine is I deleted the distributor, used a freeze plug to block the hole and bolted a plate on top. Then, I drilled the head on the intake side and welded a Cam Sensor bung from a GE vvti so I can use GTE cams. I currently have BC 272 GTE cams on my GE non Vvti head. The aftermarket support for GEs is growing. You can get pretty much the same as far as intake and exhaust manifolds for both online. A lot of drift cars are using either GE blocks or GE block/head. If you are going to build a 2jz, just get a GE for $250 from a junkyard instead of a GTE. (spend that extra $2700 in forged internals and cams). Regarding the compression ratio, if you use a stock GE (non vvti) bottom end, with a GTE head gasket, it will give you a 9.21:1 compression ratio which it isn't very "ideal". But if you mill the head a little bit, you will get 9.5:1 compression ratio which it is good for 650whp on pump gas an 900whp+ on e85 until your pistons fail (on a healthy engine they can survive 1000whp). Anyways, I like your channel and I hope to see more videos! Stay safe everyone!

      @tylerr324 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I did exactly what you said as well in my 94 supra. Did the cam sensor and made my own distributor block off with a mill and welded a flange for the sensor. I built my bottom end with forged internals and a TT oil pump. did a bowl blend and gasket match on the head along with bc springs retainers and gsc s2 cams. I’m making 806whp and 790 ft lbs of torque on a BW s369sxe sooooo GE is just as capable. Headgames claimed with a port job it’s a better flowing head at one time too. Respect is deserved for the GE no doubt

    Hey, question… on my just started quest.
    I have a TE72 corolla 1980, and trying to budget an engine swap so presumably would be the 2JZ GE, but I was curious on finding information on the differences(if any) on the 2JZ-GE on a Lexus GS300/LS300/SC300 vs the US Supra or jdm 2JZ-GE?
    I heard they are different and less power for the US Lexus versions but can’t find any information on what exactly is different besides certain emissions equipment.
    If you could direct me if you have a video on this or a quick answer could help. Any information is appreciated thanks!!

      Only difference really between GE and GTE block are oil squirters in the GTE and the oil pump is different. The GE from 97 and before actually use the same thick rods as the GTE. Word has been out that’s why you can’t find 2jzge blocks anymore. Vvti GE uses weaker rods but has the better head. Ge/gte vvti heads use the same aftermarket cams. Another reason GTE head is more preferred is because of the front facing intake manifold which makes maintenance much easier and it looks better to most. With a good tune and today’s fuel options the 2jzge NON vvti will make the same power if not better since it’s higher compression. When either block is built everyone runs higher compression anyway and use forged pistons and almost all builders block off the oil squirters when using aftermarket so in today’s day in age it’s pretty much worthless to start with a GTE block unless keeping all stock
