There's nothing wrong with a roomba having skirts. It's 2023 ffs, get with the times. Just because you were born with a dust collector doesn't mean you can't wear a skirt.
Honestly, one of the most impressive things about your videos that I've seen so far is that you discard very few parts when refurbishing this roomba. Most videos want to make everything shiny and perfect looking, but there's a rough perfection to having your finished piece be scuffed here and there, more natural looking. Gives me Borderlands weapon vibes.
Since you'll be building a custom chassis for the Vroomba, you might want to move the wheels further forwards to move the balance backwards and rest more on the third wheel. This will also make the splitter scrape less. I think part of your instability is caused by just that- the driven wheels being totally centered with a high speed application. Makes for a lot of room for wobbles. You may not wanna do this if you still want to be able to spin in place, though.
I would recommend covering the tires to prevent unwanted aerodynamic turbulence, and also consider making the tires a bit thicker to make bumps just that little bit easier to get over.
Thanks! Good suggestion, but I doubt it would help. I don’t think it comes across in the videos, but this thing has so much brutal power that it just can’t get to the ground. Plus it’s heavy which works against it. That’s why I’m working towards a light weight Roomba for the next version. It won’t vacuum or be a ‘Roomba’, but I think it will be very fast! Thanks for watching.
I think guniness should give you the world record, they dont appricate the engniners/hobbyiest enough. I have some suggestions for v3, try printing the front arrow/splitter thing out of a tough (98A) tpu or tpe. This will act as a bumper and prevent some damage when you run into things. My second idea is to use drone parts like the flight controler, esc, and motors. This will allow you to have the gyro, wire in a gps directly into the flight controler, allow a fpv camera so you can drive first person, use the esc from it, and use super powerful drone motors. Realy nice project I hope you make it even faster.

If you’re planning on building a custom chassis for the Vroomba, I’d suggest looking into using tires that are wider and thicker; they may help absorb more of the impact from the rough tarmac surface and provide significantly better grip. (I’d also suggest looking into trying out different tread patterns for the tires as well; Most R/C vehicles use slick or semi-slick treads that provide better grip on the road surface.)
As the owner of two Roomba's, and a guy who has been into R/C racing since 1985, (started with a Grasshopper like everyone else) I approve of your work and propose that it become mandatory viewing for ALL R/C racers
I started a few years after you with a Jet Hopper Aero and then my first Tamiya with a Super Hornet (half price at Toy World Christmas sale). Good times!
@@electrosync Funny. I bought the parts to "Upgrade" my Grasshopper to the Hornet. Then I got addicted and it was new motors, cut and stretch chassis to fit different bodies, new suspension. I think in the end the only Grasshopper part was the memory...
Honestly, I'd be surprised if the response you got from GWR wasn't automated/AI. I'd guess that the "Roomba" keyword raises alarm bells as a brand. I'd also point out that if it no longer performs the primary function of the original device, calling it a "Robot Vacuum" probably won't be accepted by them either. It's a shame, though, and I really enjoy seeing how this project progresses!
They should, the "world's fastest car" is anything BUT a car. It's a rocket with some wheels attached. It absolutely cannot be used for regular driving on regular roads, so it's a "car" in the loosest sense of the word possible.
Guinness rejecting you is the most stupid thing i've heard all year, almost ALL the vehicle based speed records are PTW period yet they're perfectly fine, personally i would write them a strongly worded email pointing out EVERY single one of their records that is PTW and simply ask why am i getting discriminated against.
This reminds me SO much of my Super Fast Traxx toy from Tyco I had as a kid. I had the upgraded (bigger model) that was black with pink highlights just like the Vroomba. I had such a great time with that thing until the tracks started to come apart completely. Previous to that my dad had repaired it with nylon fishing line and a sewing needle several times. Eventually it just got too dry and brittle. That was a sad, sad day for little me.
Amazing additions, I would add a steeper wing angle however, the current wing may be massive, but it doesn't have much angle to increase downforce, if you are going purely for speed though, you might want ground effect thats fan assissted because it would not produce as much drag. These are great to see! Love it!
Many great suggestions here but one I haven't seen is the testing surface. Instead of a road, would something like an outdoor basketball court at a park be more feasible? It seemed a lot of the issues you had at thw end was the rough road surface grabbing parts of the roomba. I know some skate parks generally have long flat areas on the perimeter too
Not sure if helpful or already covered but the gyro anomaly reminded me of what happens on an R/C heli when the tail gyro is backwards or upside down- input says going left but actually goes right so gyro says more left more left which is actually more and more right so instant out of control spin . Might be your diff steer doing it tho, notoriously hard at high speeds. Love your work 👍

If i may, i would suggest you should make a slick or smooth tires and using softer materials than hard plastic on you roomba for more traction and if you arent planning for wet surfaces, then theres no need to put grooves on your tires ❤ And it would be great idea to check for weight distrubtion, having imbalance side by side is much worse than front to back
At some point there needs to be an RC Roomba Racing series. It'd be neat to get a whole RC club in on this kind of thing, but there needs to be some ground rules on what still has to be stock. (I figure the chassis still has to be able to convert back to the original parts?)
I imagine, that since it will be defined by "Roomba", it'll at least need to be able to perform the main task of a Roomba, namely being able to vacuum at whatever the top speed might be. Though, I'm not sure at what level of effectiveness the threshold should be, as it's gonna be unrealistic to expect a model tuned for speed to perform as well as a stock Roomba. Or just call it something else than "Roomba", like Guinnes pointed out.

I think you should make something like a middle mounted wing, centered to the center of mass and relatively high up to get clean air instead of dirty air coming of the roomba, like a Cooper T86B F1 car from 1968. Another suggestion is to use dive planes instead of a splitter, since that could be causing instability in the straight-line runs.
