It moves like it’s on a string. Swinging as it went up stairs.
That's actually not a bad idea. With the way modern robot vacuums map your home, it should be possible for them to detect staircases and be able to fly up and down them simply by following the wall/railing, but not close enough to crash. It does rather increase the cost and complexity so it might not be any cheaper than simply buying 2 of them. But if you have 3 floors of more, it starts making sense.
Uhh. You also have the problem of people going up or down the stairs. If the robot hits them, they could fall down.. Stairs are easily the worst possible place to fall down in a house...

If you put three ultrasonic sensors at the rotors, you could ping distance while in the air, and go towards the highest distance once it reaches a ledge, then descend at a fixed speed in order to automatically navigate stairs.
The only issue is that I doubt the stairs will always be the last thing it goes to on a floor

@@myst1c164 Not really Claymore is directed soft target area effect mine, where bouncing betty is landmine when stepped on triggers, jumps up and explodes trowing shrapnel all directions. Essentially bouncing betty works against optimally large enemy infantry formations, where claymore is more surgical taking out colums of enemies while not being (that) dangerous to friendly troops on flanks doing ambush, though i'm not sure how effective this would be on flying platform. Lots of energy would be lost on mine getting trow backwards from the blast as usually its staked to ground.
The last time I laughed this hard at a vacuum video was when some other dude made a Roomba *Scream*
