Especially poignant after her passing. A giant of black music. We cherish her memory and thank her for a lifetime of memories. Sleep well angel. R.I.P.
Love her....period!...she passed on my birthday and she was the 1st person I immulated as a singer. God Bless your SOUL!!! THANK YOU! ChinaDoll of the Platters
GOOD LORD! Nancy beats the daylights out of every phrase. It is as if she is beating the melody into submission to the Nancy Wilson way. So unique, professional and legendary. Nancy could sing a fortune cookie message and make it a masterpiece.
THE ORIGINAL SONG WAS WRITTEN AND ORIGINALLY SUNG BY MR. MAJOR HARRIS. HE WAS ALSO A MEMBER OF THE SINGING GROUP, THE DELPHONICS. CHECK OUT HIS RENDITION.
Nancys magic - apart from that Voice! - is her ability to wear her heart on her sleeve without being vulgar. She strikes me as intensely passionate and easily hurt which must be tough on her personally, but informs her performances like no other.
Wonderful redition of this song. Nancy is an incredible jazz singer and one very, very elegant and classy lady!! Wish more of our singers today, would learn from her...
The paradox of Nancy Wilson is that she's at once the most elegant, poised, sophisticated lady, yet the most daring, emotional actor who holds nothing back to identify with a lyric and "own" a song. No vocalist has a finer control of pitch (including her "quarter tones," and the biggest and longest "wails" you'll ever hear, sometimes maintained just slightly off-pitch before her musicianship tells her to bring it into alignment. She can handle the complex stories of Cole Porter and Lorenz Hart in 32-bar and beyond standards, and she can ride her wail up into the stratosphere, even employing multiphonics like a great jazz musician (John Coltrane). The present song strikes me as more limited in melodic, rhythmic possibilities and emotional range. It's basically a single-idea, single-emotion song: the title says it all. Or so we think. After Nancy sings it, we have to rethink what we thought was just another simple song about unrequited love and its frustrations. She makes it real--almost to the point of discomfort for those unfamiliar with her work.,
That maintaining slightly Off Pitch thing you're referring to, it is intentional, she is a jazz musician, Jazz musicians know enough about music to know that all notes are connected, and what people perceived to be dissonance is really a reflection of Their Own misunderstanding of Harmony
Good God! what can you say....simply wonderful and moving. I love Ms. Wilson, her voice and this song. I have this concert. Play it so much I hope I don't pop the tape. Thank you for posting!
Feb.20: Happy birthday Song stylist, Jazz / R&B Nancy Wilson. Pure class; 3 x Grammy Award winner: Best Jazz Vocal Album; Best R&B Performance. Thank you and God bless. Thanks for the upload, AIKAN74. Blessings
From te time I heard " Hollywood My Way" I've loved Nancy Wilson, to my way of thinkng this great artist will always be one of the greatest singers in both Jazz and Pop , and the way Nancy carried herself CLASS with a capital C. In the late 90's Nancy did voice narration on PBS Public Radio what perfection! May God bless Nancy and keep her.Nancy was and is truly a gift from God.
I have this song by Prince , Nancy , Patti , Bonnie , George and Boyz to Men . I never get enough of it no matter who sings it , but Nancy puts a real hurting on it .... Oh yeah , Tank .
i remember her performing this song on the arsenio hall show, back in the day....she blew it away....sent chills down my spine!!!! i love ms nancy wilson!!! thanx for posting
One of the best. Nancy Wilson is old school. Nobody sounds like her or does what she does to a song. She's almost like a jazz version of Garland at her peak. Whoever you compare her to, there will always be only one Nancy Wilson.
The first time I heard this I was in 10th grade after doing homework me and my mom watched an episode of Soul Food on Showtime and this song played in the scene almost in its entirety. I was rendered still.
I have loved this beautiful woman for forever. I miss her something terrible. So glad I have her music on CDs and these videos. Hopefully, I will see her on the other side.
Nothing can rival the Bonnie Raitt version but, by golly, this is a very close second... I love her microphone/voice control technique near the end. Breathtaking performance !
Never get tired of listening to Bonnie or Nancy take my Heart with this one. Prince and George Michael have their own treatments as well. Though All gone now except Ms. Bonnie. ShalomPeaceSalaam
After hearing Bonnie Ratti Patty Labelle and Nancy Wilson sing the same song it’s hard to determine who delivers the magic of this song best the 3 of them R so great 😀 if I was in their situation all 3 of them could tell my story so beautifully. Again if I were to choose the deliverer it would be hard. DP
Wow wow wow Love 💕 is a power thing one has to have it R face misery and pain as Nancy Wilson explains it living without the rejection of it WoW 😮 I have never experienced rejection but I have experienced thru death having to live without it. DPitts
Wow! I am watching this in 2024. Amazing. My dad adored Nancy Wilson. As a child, I didn’t get it. I do now. Amazing.
Especially poignant after her passing. A giant of black music. We cherish her memory and thank her for a lifetime of memories. Sleep well angel. R.I.P.
This is what talent, beauty, and real singing use to sound like. She was always gorgeous in her appearance and concerts. RIP Nancy. A life well lived.
Epitome of sophistication. Nancy never sings the same song in the same way twice.
Love her....period!...she passed on my birthday and she was the 1st person I immulated as a singer. God Bless your SOUL!!! THANK YOU!
ChinaDoll of the Platters
Nancy Wilson sings this song with all the heartbreak it deserves. Well done.

No one can touch the GREAT Nancy Wilson!!!!
Wonderful redition of this song. Nancy is an incredible jazz singer and one very, very elegant and classy lady!! Wish more of our singers today, would learn from her...
1994 and she still had that unique voice, no weakness at all, or sign of aging, clear, strong and beautiful. the one and only... Nancy Wilson.
The paradox of Nancy Wilson is that she's at once the most elegant, poised, sophisticated lady, yet the most daring, emotional actor who holds nothing back to identify with a lyric and "own" a song. caponsacchi phyllis hyman, nancy Wilson and Marlena shaw
caponsacchi I was thinking the EXACT same thing about Phyllis too!
Great insight....
Brilliant comment. You must be a musician. I'm a singer, and I would sell my soul to have 1/16 of the talent she had.
That maintaining slightly Off Pitch thing you're referring to, it is intentional, she is a jazz musician, Jazz musicians know enough about music to know that all notes are connected, and what people perceived to be dissonance is really a reflection of Their Own misunderstanding of Harmony
