My heart is broken! The glorious Nancy Wilson has gone home to heaven. The literal personification of grace, elegance, sophistication, and class, she gave us her listeners such a wondrous gift with her magnificent voice and her ability to tell a story with every song she ever performed! This type of artistry I fear is now a thing of the past, doubtful that we will ever see it again. A career that spanned decades, with no scandals, drama, or tabloid headlines! Just her voice and the music! Fancy Miss Nancy, how we will miss you, thanks to the wonderful legacy of your recording's you will never ever be forgotten.
''THIS'' ''THIS'' IS HOW IT'S DONE.ONE WOMAN, ''DRESSED'' LIKE A LADY, AN ORCHESTRA, ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS TRANSFORM YOURSELF BY ''THAT'' VOICE, ''THAT RANGE.........PURE CLASS
And no one before or SINCE has sounded like Nancy. I notice today that if someone becomes popular, all of a sudden, everyone sounds like that person. I have always said I judge a singer based on if they can get on stage with a simple microphone and just a piano and keep us in rapture for an hour. There used to be quite a few like Ella, Frank, Nancy, Sammy, Nat etc. - today they are hard to find.
Nancy Wilson was a DIVA before any of us knew what a DIVA was. I am happy to have been able to see her live twice when she came to the San Francisco Bay Area in the 90s. I made it my business in this lifetime to see her and Lena Horne live, and I am so glad I did. RIP Miss Nancy.
One thing (among many) that I love about Nancy Wilson, was that she never tried to look any way but herself, she let her hair go gray, just stayed trim and true to her beautiful self. Someone in an interview once, tried to pin her down as to what kind of singing she did, pop, country, soul, etc., and she said she was a "song stylist" and that she certainly was, she had her own inimitable style style. Age was telling in her throat muscles by this time, her vibrato/tremolo was slower and wider, as happens sometimes to singers who reach their later age, but her adoring crowd loved her no matter what, as we do, always have and always will! We miss you, Nancy (12-13-18), rest well and sleep warm! (I imagine Ella Fitzgerald was a big influence in Nancy's singing, as she alluded to above, but Nancy put her own touch on a song, that no one has ever been able to duplicate, and never will; Nancy was simply one of a kind!)
Nobody does it like Nancy. She and Barbra are my all two favorite female artists. Nancy comes first. If ever there was one more singer I would love to see perform live it would be Nancy. I'm surprised she hasn't been honored at the Grammy's. What an Icon.
There are some greats who come along, in the many years of our life, but only a few last! Ella Fitzgerald was one of those amazing talents, so was Frank Sinatra, and two or three more but Nancy Wilson is undeniably one of them! I really miss her beautiful voice but especially her style of singing -- no one can duplicate her style, ever! Thank goodness we have her recordings! RIP, Nancy.
NANCY WILSON! Nancy right here does a great version of the Ella Fitzgerald classic "Someone to Watch Over Me." Nancy was always a great vocalist! Even at 70 she sounds amazingly great. There have been very few, if any singers who compared to Ella Fitzgerald. The same can be said about Nancy Wilson. She still has a great voice, and was always a classy and wonderful singer!
Beautiful❣️Nancy Wilson, so exquisite🎶. I am just finding this tribute she performed honoring Ella Fitzgerald. I listened to her as a young girl. She graced our home along with Ella, Gloria Lynne, Sarah Vaughn, Esther Phillips, Dinah Washington, Duke Ellington, Billy Eckstein, Joe Williams, Johnny Mathis, Cab Calloway, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra and other greats of the time. The best thing about them was a uniqueness and beauty they each brought to you. You could tell who was playing on the stereo and envision them taking you into the music. What a glorious time in my life. I bought my own Nancy Wilson albums beginning in my early teens. I played every track, both sides and learned the words. You could do that back then, an album was a great investment. Nancy Wilson had a tremendous amount of beauty, style, grace and talent. Her music legacy is on par with her family legacy and philanthropy. Such a regal presence, she exuded class and intellect just sitting in an interview or in conversation. She should be proud of her life and endeavors. I feel so blessed to have experienced her gift to the world. Condolences to her family and other loved ones. Her fans will miss her but they cannot forget her.
Just wonderful your list and I can identify mostly because of my fathers music collection in our home . I too bought my own albums as a teen but as a child i had the album covers and jacket sprawled out on the floor looking at them, but my eyes lit up when you said Gloria Lynne because I was mesmerized by her also, they were my four including, Dinah, Sarah. later on came Dionne Warwick. We must be of the same generation because the music was flowing out of my fathers 12 speaker Hi-Fi in those days.
Such elegance, class and style. She was the 'Song Stylist". She sold her VOICE AND NOT HER BODY and embodied poise and respect. Rest Well Queen, You EARNED IT!
PATRICK: I AGREE WHOLEHEARTEDLY WITH EVERYTHING YOU WROTE ABOUT THIS GREAT LADY OF JAZZ. I WILL MISS HER WITH ALL OF MY HEART BECAUSE SO MANY SONGS SHE CHOSE TO SING WHERE ABOUT MY LIFE. SYLVIA - FL -01/24/19

she gave it her all in this performance as she always did and received a richly deserved standing ovation although she is gone now but never to be forgotten

Nancy was so elegant, even in her golden years -- I love it that she never feel the need to change her aging looks, she kept her naturally graying hair, etc. Class all the way! (We miss you Nancy (12-13-18), sleep warm dear lady!)
I always thought of Nancy Wilson as one of the best singers of a generation. Her class grace and style was top shelf. She has always been in my music collection. Saddened to hear she is gone but thankful that her songs Will linger on.
Fancy Miss Nancy looking gorgeous & sounding timeless in this classic "Someone To Watch Over Me" performance...thinking the lady has been singing from her soul for decades, this glorious performance is stunning...Bravo Nancy Wilson!
As far as I am concerned, this is the song stylist of the century. I have adored this lady my whole life and I thank god he let me live in the time of this musical goddess.
I have been to countless performances of the stars. Only two could totally entertain an audience by simply singing and nothing else Those two were Nancy Wilson and Johnny Mathis, two of the greatest singers of all time.
I've always loved Nancy Wilson. Momma and I used to listen to her records for hours. She is an angel now, I'm sure of it. My mother left this life 9 months ago. She too is an angel now... She has to be. She sacrificed so much, and worked so hard and loved me so much. I miss her every second. I'm glad she's not suffering anymore I took care of for for 27 years. But how i wish I could stll be the one watching over her. she's my everything... even now but now Im no one's baby.... and i have no one to watch over I love you momma i miss you. i'd give anything to watch over you forever.
I saw her at Blues Alley in Georgetown back in 1983, she was so sweet and elegant and tore it up with her elegance and style and got a chance to talk her backstage. what a lucky guy I was.
What a beautiful woman we've lost a songstress a reason to be in awe as a woman...inside and out, style elegance and class I'm so thankful to enjoy all genres of music...❤
I've seen nancy in concert many times, Told her she was the Greatest FEMALE SINGER I,ve Ever Heard, and that I loved Her. She Actually Teared up.and left the Stage

When someone can give you the chills just by hitting certain notes... That's a God given gift that she shared with us. How blessed we were to have her. What a woman, and quite a lady.
R.I.P. Nancy Wilson. I have to thank my Mother R.I.P. for introducing me to her music. I am grateful I had the privilege to witness such an amazing and enlightening musical entertainer as well as being a dynamic humanitarian for many charities and causes. You will be missed greatly.
My mother introduced me to Nancy Wilson too. In fact her name appears under the most popular female singer category in my 1964 baby book. Hers is the only concert I intentionally attended solo at Kimball's East in the 90's because I wanted the pleasure of being totally focused on her physical and vocal magnificence. Rest in Power Ms.Nancy Wilson.
I just sobbed when I heard she died. I have everything she ever made and there was no one like her. Sexiest voice ever....making love to Nancy Wilson’s music was an experience like no other.

I love this video. I saw it when it was broadcasted on TV. She is just awesome. Years ago I could take her or leave her, but now I'm a big fan. Most singers loose their edge as years go by, but she has gotten better and better every year. Kudos to you Nancy and I hope you continue to sing for us many more years.
My wife and I have loved Nancy's singing for close to a half-century. It was a real treat to see her celebrate her 75th birthday at Yoshi's in Oakland. Ageless excellence!
I was privileged to see her live a few times and what a treat that was. She is the ultimate singers singer. Classy, beautiful and as gracious as they come. We miss you Nancy.

Sophistication and Grace. Bring it on Ms Nancy Wilson.

Age was not telling anything in her troat muscles .Mrs. Nancy Wilson sounded Superb as always.
Such a class act. As amazing as she was, she was still humble enough at this age to pay tribute to her idol.
Nobody does it like Nancy. She and Barbra are my all two favorite female artists. Nancy comes first. If ever there was one more singer I would love to see perform live it would be Nancy. I'm surprised she hasn't been honored at the Grammy's. What an Icon.
She was such a lady
